Friday 20th April 2018 Issue 25 National Trampoline Success Contact Details Reception: Attendance: Sixth Form Attendance: Community Liaison: U19 Intermediate Girls On Saturday 24th March, 23 Wilmslow High School students took part in the National Trampolining Finals at Ards Leisure Centre in Belfast. Following some outstanding performances in the North West and Northern rounds of the competition, five teams and 3 individuals qualified for the national championships. In the team event, the U19 Intermediate girls team of Molly Andrew, Gracie Davies, Shauna Greaves and Georgia Long finished in 1st place and were crowned national champions for the 3rd year U19 Intermediate Boys running - an incredible achievement. The U19 Intermediate boys team (Ben Dickinson, Finlay Greenwood, Dominic Rowe, Oliver Weir) and the U15 Novice boys (Harvey Spendlow, Jack Mitchell, Ethan Hughes) both finished in second place. School Lettings: Second Hand Uniform (Annabel) High Notes @whigh_eng wilmslowhigh.com 1
U13 Novice Girls The U13 Novice girls team (Abby Regan, Lara Plant, Mia Greenwood, Katie Odgen) and the U19 Elite boys team (Conor Smith, Matthew Graham, Jack Colledge, Ethan Ford) both finished in 3rd position. The U15 Novice boys B team (Jack Loynton, Finley Michaelis and Sam Poole) were unlucky to miss out on a medal, finishing in 4th position. Katie Phythian Three Wilmslow students qualified for the individual competition, with Abby Regan finishing in 7th position, Ben Dickinson in 5th and Katie Phythian winning the national title in the U19 novice category. It was yet another fantastic set of results at the highest level. Our congratulations go not just to the students, but to Mrs Pemberton and her team of coaches who continue to produce top class bouncers year in year out. She was immensely proud of the way in which the students represented the school, the composure shown and the quality of performances that they were able to deliver in the cauldron like atmosphere of the national finals. Thanks must go to Bott and Co. our sports sponsors, who have generously supported the trampolining programme this year.
NOTES Aspire High: Education Tuesday, 24 th April, pm Ever wondered what it is like to be in charge of a classroom? Are you able to inspire others? Do you have a caring personality, plenty of energy, a lot of patience? So, perhaps the latter isn t always evident Come to this encounter to find out what really motivates teachers, and find out whether you could be inspiring the next generation to learn. 3
NEWS Paris Rugby Tour On Sunday 31st March 51 students and 5 members of staff travelled to Paris to compete in the International Junior Rugby Tournament. The itinerary for the next three days was packed with matches, expert coaching sessions and of course, time spent in Disneyland theme parks. The first round of the tournament took place on Monday morning, with the U13s and U14s playing three matches against other schools. Meanwhile the U15s had an exclusive coaching session before playing their only game that day. After that, all of the boys got a taste of the Disneyland theme parks before heading back for food and a well earned rest. Tuesday was a coaching master class, delivered by Paul Turner (ex professional rugby player, now coach) who brought along six current professional and semi-professional rugby players, who had all represented their respective countries, New Zealand, Tonga, Canada, Wales, Samoa and Fiji. This was a young rugby players dream and all of the boys took something away from the sessions to improve their game. This was evident on Wednesday when we played the final round of games, with the U13s and U14s playing two matches and the U15s a final game. The U13s managed to win the plate competition with Robbie Allen, being named as player of the tournament and Harry Jenkins voted most improved player of the tournament. Meanwhile the U14s came runners up in the plate competition, losing by a single try. Will Martindale, was named player of the tournament, whilst Keyaan Chambers was also named most improved player of the tournament. Finally the U15s came runners up in the main cup competition, a great achievement after a very successful school season. Will Frost, was named player of the tournament with Jack Harding earning most improved player of the tournament. In addition to this, the U15s won a 'spirit of the game' award, with their never say die attitude which impressed spectators and coaches alike. On Thursday we travelled back to Wilmslow, reaching school around 8pm, with some very tired students and staff. A fantastic trip all round and a vital step in the continuing development of the boys. Well done and a big thank you to Mr Rushton for organising everything and any parents who offered support in any way. 4
Easter Year 9 Ski Trip to Austria Hochfugen in Austria was the destination for the Wilmslow High School Ski Tour The snow was deep and the weather was mainly sunny. Some students were already experienced and skilled skiers, but most were very much at the beginning stage of skiing and snowboarding. The progress throughout the week was dramatic and students who could barely stand on the flat at the start of the week were immensely proud of themselves when they skied from the top to the bottom of the main mountain by the end of the week. The physical and mental demands of skiing in thick snow down steep slopes should not be underestimated. Many students took more than one tumble (though thankfully none serious) and it was impressive how students picked themselves up - in some cases time and time again. The physical and mental stamina this required was considerable and to carry on smiling throughout was brilliant! Each evening there was a varied programme of activities including a quiz night, bowling, card games and awards ceremony. This visit has created new friendships, an ability to compromise and get on with people, experience of persevering when things are tough and lifelong memories of a wonderful winter sports holiday in the Alps. 6 On Wednesday 28th March Norcliffe House held their annual Easter Charity Fair. All members of the Norcliffe team (staff and students) contributed by buying, baking and selling confectionary at break and lunchtime in school. Norcliffe Easter Fair raised! A huge thank you! Norcliffe were extremely proud to raise a grand total of for Macmillan Cancer Support, the charity selected by our students for the academic year. Mr. Maw and Mrs. Powell would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to everybody who in any way participated to make the event such a success. 6

SPORT Football Girls On Wednesday we hosted a touring team who came over from Australia from St Leo's school. Three teams came over to play our football teams two boys teams and one girls team The girls showed great determination against a team who were a year older than them. The girls played 5 aside and it was 0-0 after the first two quarters, however in the final two they ended up losing the game. The girls remained in high spirits and welcomed the students from the other school. The girls showed great character even though they were out-played. The player of the match for the girls was Libby Hutton. Boys U17 Drew a tough battle against a team of boys a year or two older. Man of the match - Josh Pierpoint. 9 Jumping for joy! It s been another hugely successful year for our trampolining teams. 46 students took part in the North West Championships in Wigan in November with eight of those teams qualifying for the North of England competition in February. Five of those teams finished as North of England Champions and Abby Regan was crowned U13 girls novice champion. Fantastic performances at those championships ensured that six teams and two individuals travelled to Belfast just before Easter to compete for national titles. Five of those teams went on to medal at the national finals. The U19 Intermediate boys team (Ben Dickinson, Finlay Greenwood, Dominic Rowe, Oliver Weir) and the U15 Novice boys (Harvey Spendlow, Jack Mitchell, Ethan Hughes) both finished in second place. The U13 Novice girls team (Abby Regan, Lara Plant, Mia Greenwood, Katie Odgen) and the U19 Elite boys team (Conor Smith, Matthew Graham, Jack Colledge, Ethan Ford) both finished in 3rd position. The U15 Novice boys B team (Jack Loynton, Finley Michaelis, Sam Poole) were unlucky to miss out on a medal, finishing in 4th position. The U19 Intermediate girls team of Molly Andrew, Gracie Davies, Shauna Greaves and Georgia Long finished in 1st place and were crowned national champions for the 3rd year running an incredible achievement. In the individual competition, a fantastic performance from Katie Phythian saw her win the national title in the U19 novice category.
