2 Warlingham 3 away to Streatham & Croydon So in front of their shiny new stand, 15 Warlingham men took to the field at Streatham&Croydon where we bumped into another Warlingham man who seemed to be temporarily lost, come back Brother Joe, the door is always open for you. Over the past few weeks there has been quite a front row drought, but Saturday we were blessed with a number of very able players, particularly Guage's mate Mike Frith, up from Cornwall for the weekend and now am honorary member of our club ive decided, a smashing bloke and he had a great game. Kieran Scutt had a cracker at 12, which would be his position had he been born in Auckland, scoring under the posts for I think the first of his two tries. Joe M doing what he does best, everything, and our pack dominating all over the park led by Guagey and marshalled at 8 by El Tel Dersley. Tries came from Joe, Roy at centre along with Scutty, they were each great and as a result of a fantastic team performance. Phil Evans had a vision when he took on the 4s captaincy, which was to get the heart beating again at this most important level of rugby at our club, by mixing experience with raw youth, very clear achievement made saturday with Bob Read as my man of the match, absolute un relenting pressure & defence and you are one to watch, at the other end of the spectrum we have Ron Head, played the full 80 on the wing, his only beef was that he wanted to play the full 80 in the front row, I pretty much don t have the words to describe the admiration and respect we all at WRFC have for you Ron. Griggsy broke his thumb so good luck with that mate, Dexter Guage took a couple for the team thanks to Dad, John Glover got 10 in the bin and young Manny was going to defy his watching chairman and play anyway, but he didnt as he had to save himself for the Lithuanian lovely he was squiring that evening, good lad. Thanks to all travelling support and the boys that played, credit to your club and our game of Rugby. Proud Skipper. Thousands of people attend Warlingham Rugby Club each year including mini, junior and senior players of the rugby, netball and cricket sections along with parents, supporters and visitors from opposition teams. In addition we also welcome thousands of members of the general public who attend our very popular Car Boot Sales. Final plans are underway for the cycle ride to Paris for the England v France game, Saturday 1 February 2014, and to visit Stade Francais. Newhaven departure is now on Wednesday 29 January 2014 at 11.00pm (ouch!). We ll get some sleep on the boat (hopefully) and then an early start to eat into as many kilometres as possible before an overnight stay, and then get back on the road again. I need to know names as soon as possible as the ferry company needs them for the booking. Neil Farmer and Dave Gardner will be at the club for a Q & A session (date to be advised), as they have done the trip before. All bikes will be transported from Warlingham to Newhaven and a minibus will be there to support us on the way. Depending on numbers, we ll have another van to bring the bikes back. Watch this space.
