8 2008 FLORIDA MARKED 3-D CHAMPIONSHIP July 2007 Ft Lauderdale Archers, Ft Lauderdale FL 75 archers participated with 24 on-site registrations and 18 memberships processed so we were about an hour late getting started on Saturday. Every difficulty has a good side, and our late start kept the archers from getting wet. A very rainy weekend had rain during lunch and at night and after shooting, but none on the competition. An extremely small work crew worked incredibly hard to carve out 20 lanes from impenetrable hurricane residue. Medium and small targets placed out to a long distance of 49 yards made for an extremely hard course. Kevin McCloskey, Everglades Vice President, posted the high score for the weekend with 662, approximately 21 points up per round impressive accuracy. A resounding THANK YOU to Bill Coulter and crew! 12 BRANDY ELLISON RICHARD JOHNSON VIC WUNDERLE USA OLYMPIC TEAM USA team member Vic Wunderle moved on to the third round by beating Italy s Iiario Di Buo in a shootoff after a tie. USA team member Butch Johnson was beat by South Korea s Im Dong-hyun in the second round USA team member Brady Ellison faced two straight Canadians. He beat John David Burnes , but lost in the second round to Jay Lyon Vic Wunderle remained the only American man left in the Olympic Games in China after advancing to the Round of 1/8. He faced the best archer in the world, South Korean Im Dong-Hyun and won but was eliminated in the semifinals by Mexico s Juan Rene Serrano Gold went to Ukraine; Silver to Korea & Bronze to Russia 12

15 FLORIDA ARCHERY ASSOCIATION STATE FITA CHAMPIONSHIP REGISTERED FITA Scheduled August 2008, Apopka, Florida (Host Pro Flight Archers) When Apopka s Fields of Fame was closed due to Tropical Storm Fay (and the facility not available later), we rescheduled the event at The Villages Archery Club on 6-7 September Weather was hot and sunshine, but the shooting line was mostly shaded. Bob Jones did a superb job as Director of Shooting, and William Cisek and Ron Lucas served as Line Judges. Tim Austin was Chairman of Judges. High score for the tournament was Diane Watson s 1362, especially impressive in that she shot the men s 90 meters for her first distance. William Cisek had just finished re-reading the FITA Rule Book and made us all aware of technical flaws such as the field being accurately measured but not having lines painted or otherwise marked: The archers were not adversely affected by this anomaly. 20 FAA on the Bob Evans Robert L. "Bob" Evans lost his fight with lung cancer on 18 September 2008 at age 65. Bob was a skilled archer who has been active in FAA/NFAA shooting for the past six and a half years. An "A" Class Freestyle archer, Bob was a member of Citrus County Archers was seen regularly at shoots in North Florida and at State shoots as well. Many will remember that Bob volunteered to bring the Mats and Stands to the Senior and the Sunshine State Games last year. Bob turned his hobby of stained glass work into a business, and many of our homes have his beautiful work displayed.
