2 Greetings from your NFAA Director. Congratulations to John Lackey, Bob Jones and John Laudicina for being put in the Florida Archery Association Hall of Fame. They were awarded at the State Field. I attended the National meeting in April to represent Florida. It is one of the big requirements of the job. We are the second largest state association and we need to be there to make sure our interests are represented. The meeting was held in Yankton, South Dakota during our Marked 3-D; that is why you didn t see Tim or me there. There were not a lot of rule changes which is good. The most important changes were related to safety. There was an archer shot at Redding this year due to sky drawing (Redding has excellent backstops on their targets). The victim was standing in the parking lot and suddenly let out a shriek. The person was hit in the leg and is alright. Unfortunately, some will not enforce safety issues unless they are actually written down. We took care of it without a rule in Florida, but it is on the books now and that is good. An archer will get one warning before being removed from shooting for sky drawing. When you pull your bow back, the arrow should not be pointed over the top of the target butt. Another new rule bans the use of personal stereo or radio equipment or selfcoaching while on the shooting line in competition or official practice. Also an archer can only have one equipment repair on any tournament day. We fixed Longbow to clarify the bow requirements. Lastly, we changed the National Meeting to every other year. 39 PASSING ON Ed Dobson died today. Ed is a life member of NFAA and FAA with over 30 years as a member, and was a key force in building our Gator Bowmen Archery Range. He volunteered his equipment and his expertise and bush hogged where we needed clearing. He devised a method to pull the phone pole based target houses out of the ground at our old range and used his tractor and chains to lift the poles and place them in the ground on our current range. He was a good shooting buddy to many in the club and was always willing to help with just about any project. His ability at building and working with just about any tool made him invaluable to any project Ed was just a month short of his 80 th birthday. Ed leaves behind a grandson, Steven, and his partner of many years, Donna Lou Bracken. Their phone number is O J McGuill died 4 June 2015 after a long battle with Multiple Systems Atrophy (MSA) He had been a member of FAA and NFAA for 25 years off and on since 1986 with his last membership expiring 21 October He was an active member of Brevard Archers and a well liked member who willingly helped fellow archers. He was 67 years old (born 5/29/1948). In 1997 he shot a record 1615 for a double 900 Round shooting Bowhunter Freestyle Limited... that s an average of per round shooting pins and fingers. He was FAA Champion Male Bowhunter Freestyle Limited at the 1992 Target (2065), 1994 Indoor (572-36), 1997 Target (1615), and the 1998 Indoor (560-37). In 2004 he was our Senior Male Freestyle Champion shooting Unmarked 3-D with a score of 602. We will all miss one of our super lifetime archers... 39
