9 PASSING ON HOYT Ann (nee Weber) World Renowned Archer, devoted her life to becoming a world class Archer. Born March 29, 1922 in Bloomfield, NJ. passed away quietly at Glendale Care Center April 5, 2008, one week away from celebrating her 86th birthday. Many Archery friends and her adopted Ann Clark Family were in attendance. The Archery World will miss this fierce competitor and gentle Giant who paved the way for many to follow. Her life was archery, since discovering her fascination in high school with the sport at the early age of 15. She went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude at both Bloomfield High School and her alma mater Montclair University. Graduating as a Science Major she never realized her potential for teaching. Ann represented both schools winning many titles as an archery representative in local, state and national competitions. Never looking back or regretting her decision she went to work at Robin Hood Archery Company in Montclair, NJ doing menial tasks working up to general manager. Along the way she shot her bow and arrow competing in National and World competitions where she remained until her marriage to Earl Hoyt Jr., A world-renowned Bowyer of Olympic style competitive hunting bows. A marriage made in heaven, as far as the Archery World was concerned. The World's leading Female Archer joined with the World's leading Hoyt Bow manufacture. She moved to Bridgeton Missouri for the marriage in 1972 and remained at Earl's side working together in the factory and traveling the world promoting Archery, until Earl's death in Establishing the Archery Hall of Fame was their Life Long Goal. Due to their generosity The Archery Hall of Fame is a reality. Together they established a scholarship program in Columbia, MO. Ann was a charter member of the Diana's, the first organized all ladies bow hunting group, and the Lovers of Outdoors from 1986 to present. Headed by George Gardner along with lady bow hunters through out the United States. Ann Hoyt was a great humanitarian who was silent in her work with charities and friends in need. The Archery World loved her, as did all that came to know her. Her final years were spent with long time competitor and friend of 60 years, Ann Clark. They established a home in Historic Glendale after the passing of Earl in Ann's request is to be cremated and have her ashes placed in the Archery Hall of Fame. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Archery Hall of Fame 58 North Main St., Union City, PA or Hospice of Cincinnati. Hodapp Funeral Home, College Hill, is serving the family 9

10 2008 FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP 5-6 April Everglades Archers Homestead * State Record The weekend started warm and humid (normal of course) with a weather report promising rain and thunder showers for all of Florida. We asked everyone to shoot four across where possible (most targets) and we were all extremely lucky, because we shot both rounds and had lunch in the middle and didn t get rained on. Sunday dawned with pouring rain, but by the time we arrived at the range it had somehow stopped the weather forecast was for continuing wet wow, we shot the full round Sunday and stayed dry. Carrying my umbrella worked, it didn t rain. Lovely shooting weather, good companionship, and a fun time for all. It was the drive home that had the final three hours in heavy, heavy rain. If you want to see why we collect x ring hits on our score cards, look at Master Senior Male Freestyle a three way tie for fourth broken only by x count. Overall high score shot was by Mitch Wright (858). Individual round high score was by Kevin Bergenroth (292). Everglades, as always, was a gracious, friendly, super host! 15 Southeastern 3-D Sectional Results April 12-13, 2008 Myrtle Beach, SC Sandune Archery Club Two 15 Target + One 20 Target Marked Rounds Fifty one archers gathered in Myrtle Beach, SC to shoot the Southeast Sectional 3-D, all targets known distance. Those of us who arrived the night before were guided to Socastee Station, a local restaurant, for wings and drinks and check in. The way to the range was nicely marked with large clear signs, good parking, a fine practice range, and beautifully cut out lanes in thick South Carolina woods for a challenging layout of 50 mostly Reinhardt animals set out in two 15 target ranges and one 20 target range. We were grouped with different shooters, regardless of division for each of the 15 target rounds, and then grouped by division for the final round. Perfect weather and a gracious, friendly, hard working host club made for a fun weekend. 30 FAA/NFAA DIRECTOR NOTES There has been a lot of discussion in NFAA about arrow size. At the last national meeting there was an attempt to make a 9.3 diameter shaft the maximum arrow size for NFAA (2315); this was later voted down in a special meeting. I am sure that the subject is going to come up in next years meeting. Please let me know how you would like for me to vote. I personally feel that 27 s should be the maximum arrow size but I represent you and vote the way you would like for me to. I just returned from Clemson, South Carolina where I attending the Sectional Meeting. All of the Southeast Sectional shoots for 2009 have been split with multiple locations. Last year we split the SE Indoor into 3 locations and we had more competitors than we have had in a long time. For next year we are splitting the SE Indoor into 7 locations. Three will be in Tennessee, which will be held along side their state indoor (just like we do). The other sites are Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia and Tallahassee. There will be three sites for the SE 3-D. Two of those are in Florida with Gator and Ft Lauderdale hosting. The third site will be in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Lastly there will also be three sites for the SE Field, they are Kentucky, Clemson and Gator. NFAA Headquarters has moved to Yankton, South Dakota and the slab for the new building has been poured. Tim has been working on the new ranges which are within easy walking distance from the Best Western and Super 8 Motels in Yankton. All of the ranges are easy walking according to Tim and do not have the radical shots that the old ranges had. I am looking forward to going there in July and seeing them for myself.
