10 Greetings from your NFAA Director: The NFAA annual meeting went well this year. I finally got Longbow to be a recognized style for NFAA, no longer will you have to shoot against Olympic Recurves and $ rests. Let s have a nice turnout of Longbow shooters at the Sectional and National Field. There are some big changes coming for the Pro Division. Limited Freestyle Pro has been replaced by Olympic Pro (Limited Freestyle Recurve Longbow). Archers will until the end of the year to shoot Pro Limited Freestyle. The Pro s now have a dress code. We came within one vote of changing the annual meeting to every other year. I feel that every other year is often enough to change National rules. This summer the NFAA National Outdoor Field is being held in Mechanicsburg Pennsylvania. If you have ever given thought of attending a National Outdoor this is the year! The club has 5 permanent 28 target field ranges. They are beautifully landscaped and are definitely worth the trip. I consider Mechanicsburg to be the Augusta of archery ranges. I have shot all of the National Outdoors since 1999 and have fond memories of each. I would love to shoot Watkins Glen, New York again. I loved the challenge of the first ranges that were built in Yankton, South Dakota. Blue Springs, Missouri had some really wonderful shots. They had an 80 over a ravine, the 80 yard shot was almost straight on, as you walked down the ravine each succeeding shot got more and more extreme. They also had a lovely 50 yard shot that was on a giant rock. You stood on the rock and shot down at the target. I love the Coyote range at Darrington, Washington and would shoot all of my rounds there if I were allowed. The Paddle Wheel Point range at Yankton, South Dakota is an easy walking course surrounded by the Missouri River. That said Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania is my favorite site for a National Outdoor. It is conveniently located to Florida. You can fly into Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Mechanicsburg is a suburb of Harrisburg, or it is a decent drive (compared to other sites). While they don t have the challenging shots that the other ranges have, what they have are well manicured ranges which are easy to get to, easy to walk and 4 of the 5 ranges are all walk-throughs. The newest range has some walk-backs but has some challenging short targets one of which had a rope to help you climb back up. Hope to see you there. Oliver.
