1 The Hartefeld National Weekly Update Newsletter Reminder: Understanding that some of the info in the newsletter each week is repetitive I want to be sure that I communicate the color coordination and what it means. Each week all new info to the newsletter is written in Red while all repeat info is written in Black. This should help you navigate the newsletter a little quicker for new info while still providing a directory for events and information that has been passed along but hasn t happened yet. I hope this helps! Bill Brown s Blog for course conditions is Today definitely felt like a new page was turned. The sun was out when I went to work, it wasn't brutally cold and yes, I could see some grass. A few short hours into my day, hearing the sound of a chainsaw ripping through a storm damaged tree got me going a bit; sad what gets us Superintendents excited. I am sure many of you have been suffering from cabin fever and are excited to get back on the course. The five day forecast looks promising and we are very anxious to get moving. I have called my early spring crew back beginning tomorrow and we have a looooooooonnnnnngggg list of things to get to. We to have been suffering from cabin fever and very much look forward to dirtying the equipment we have been working on all winter. Today our tree company is in cleaning up several of the trees that suffered damage from the storms. I should be able to navigate the entire course either this afternoon or tomorrow. Hopefully the rest of the course faired okay from a tree standpoint. I will post an update shortly. Also: We are beginning to see a bit of green on the course, finally!! Thankfully the last storm was not what was forecasted. The two storms back to back in early February, hit us hard from a pine tree standpoint, especially around the clubhouse. I am hoping this storm on Wednesday is just minimal so we can get busy cleaning things up. The pines around the clubhouse will be taken care of shortly, via our tree company. This year I have been able to budget for a good amount of labor in March. All my guys are on call waiting for a bit more snow to melt. I am anticipating bringing the early Spring crew in this Thursday or Friday to begin winter cleanup. Greens aerification is scheduled for mid to late March; however, if the snow melts over the weekend with the forecasted temperatures, we will aerify the greens on Monday. If we are able to aerify them on Monday, once the temperatures begin to cooperate on a steady basis, we will begin to push the healing process and green up. Spring course fertilization will also begin to be completed as soon as the snow melts.

2 This will include greens, tees, fairways and roughs. We are putting the final touches on the new tee markers this week and also finishing painting the ballwashers. We have ordered all new flags for this year as well as additional bunker rakes for some of the larger bunkers. We will not be putting out the new tee markers until April, when the season begins. Please continue to utilize the double cupping system. When we return to single cups, I will make a post and notify the pro shop and Joe Mackley. Last: With decent weather rolling in over the next few days we will begin aerating the greens on Monday March 8th as previously indicated as to not get behind in the event that more snow is still a possibility. On that note seeing as we will begin warming up here shortly I am sure many of you are chomping at the bit to get out. Please be sure to call the golf shop for course and range availability as once the snow melts it will be extremely soft and muddy. Be prepared for short playing windows and cart path only (no blue flags) usage at least early on until the ground firms up. Thank you and we are looking forward to getting going for the 2010 golf season! Thank you to all those that submitted your ideas and thoughts for the Ice Cream request. Mike and Lou have all the suggestions and will be in discussions with Woodside. Maybe we will have something in place by the Spring!! Approximately 2 weeks ago Mike Fox was proactive in seeing that some of the bar stools were beginning to get loose so he contacted the company that built them. After coming out to see what was happening they have agreed to replace 5 stools at a time until they have all been fixed. The process has already started and you should see some of the new stools in place. We have come a long way over the last couple of years. We have established an 18 hole ladies day at our club with several participates of all levels of play on Wednesdays. Last year we became a member of the DWGA (Delaware Women's Golf Association) along with competitive team matches. This year we will be participating in the BVL (Brandywine Valley League) with more information coming. We are extremely happy, this year Hartefeld National has become a member of the WGAP. (Women's Golf Association of Philadelphia). Our Chairperson is Barbara Carucci/ / bt1carucci@comcast.net and our Handicap Chairperson is Erin Feruck/ / erin.d.feruck@usa.dupont.com They will be happy to answer any questions you may have pertaining to WGAP. Applications are in the Ladies Locker Room. Since this is our first year as a member, We suggest you do a mail-in registration. Erin and I, over the next month will be working on the WGAP GHIN handicap system.

10 Getting your scores from last year transmitted to their system this year. Erin and I will be attending the opening meeting on 2/25 and will have further information and we will post in the newsletter. We encourage all women who have a Hdcp Index of 36.0 to join the WGAP. Go ahead and sign up, Bob in the pro shop should have your information pertaining to the information you will need on the application. It is a great opportunity to play some fabulous courses and paying for cart fee only. The following are the guidelines for 2110 Membership. Dues...$65.00 (You will receive a tournament book along with a schedule of opens days of other participating clubs, paying the cart fee only) Eligibility...Must have full golfing privileges(all weekdays without paying green fees) at our club Tournament & Open Days...USGA Handicap Index of 36.0 or better on WGAP GHIN handicap report and must have posted at least 10 scores in 2009 and or Memberships are acceptable at any time during the season. Handicaps: A USGA Ghin Handicap Index is required for association membership. You are responsible for posting, in chronological order. A SCORE FOR EVERY ROUND PLAYED ON A USGA RATED COURSE - when that course is played from regular tees to regular greens. This includes 18-hole rounds, combining the scores of two (2) nine-hole rounds and playing 13 or more holes. Scores in both match play and stroke play, including those made in multi-ball competition, shall be used. WGAP TOURNAMENT SCORES WILL BE POSTED BY THE GOLF OFFICE. Hartefeld National Ladies Social

This will provide a competitive outlet for the ladies of Hartefeld. If you sign up to play the season series will take you to 5 other competing clubs along with a home date of August 4 th If you would like more details please feel free to contact Barbara at bt1carruci@comcast.net

12 Hartefeld Winter Golf Promotion. On Days when the course is playable from Dec 5 th March 14 th members can bring 3 guests and will only pay for 2 at the winter rate of including cart. Also on the day of play all 4 players will receive the 10% discount in the restaurant. A coupon will be presented in the golf shop to be redeemed in the restaurant to verify guest and member play. March Golf Shop Hours of Operation: 9-5pm weather permitting. Shop may close early on bad weather days calling ahead would be helpful. Driving Range opens at 8:45 am weather permitting and will close promptly at 5:00pm. All hitting after Nov. 1st will be from mats only. The Back Range is closed for the season.
