2 Rule Changes, Reminders & Imprtant Dates Changes Parking: The Oklahma State Fair Park will require a parking fee fr all exhibitrs. This fee is administered by the State Fair Park and nt by the Oklahma Yuth Exp. Self-Check-in: At the 2018 OYE exhibitrs will nw be able t d a self-check-in. The self-check-in fr all species will be lcated in the Superbarn arena. At the self-check-in statin yu will enter thrugh ne gate befre ging t the self-check cmputers. Please make sure all infrmatin n yur card is crrect prir t entering the line. Helpful tips: make sure the ear tag number n yur card matches the ear tag number in yur animal s ear, make sure the birthdate n yur card matches the birthdate n yur registratin papers, make sure the weight is wrte n the card accurately and legibly. Mini Herefrd Steer Shw: The Mini Herefrd Steer Shw fr pre-junir exhibitrs will be n Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 11 am in the State Fair Arena. Mini Herefrd Steers are nt expected t stay vernight, hwever the ptin is available. Steers may arrive Tuesday mrning prir t check-in at 8:30 am and released as sn as they are finished shwing. Herefrd Barrw Shw: There will be a Herefrd Barrw shw at the 2018 OYE. Herefrd barrws are nt expected t be papered. Ear Tags: All ear tags (ther than the OYE ear tag, flck tags in purebred ewes and USDA tags that are unlawful t remve) must be remved frm ALL animal ears. Swine Ear Tags: This year the OYE will nt prvide the 840 tags fr swine exhibitins. OYE will prvide a generic OYE tag, hwever the exhibitr will be respnsible fr getting an 840 tag thrugh their veterinary r agriculture educatr/instructr. All pigs are required by law t have an 840 EID tag Market Hg Shw: The 2018 market hg shw WILL NOT be terminal. We will prvide a buyer fr thse students wh want t sell their animals at the shw. Online Nminatins: Nminatins nw must be submitted nline by yur agriculture educatin instructr r extensin educatr befre mailing DNA kits. Once the nminatin is cmpleted nline, the DNA sample is t be mailed with all samples frm the club r chapter alng with a cpy f the nline receipt. Keep in mind a nminatin des NOT mean yur animal is entered fr the Oklahma Yuth Exp, entries must be dne in February t be eligible t shw. Gats 2

3 Nminatins fr sheep, gats, and cattle must be submitted nline and pstmarked r hand delivered by Nvember 7, Nminatins fr hgs must be submitted nline and pstmarked r hand delivered by December 7, Fr family nminatins, the nline entry must be dne in each sibling s name. Additinal Steer Nminatin Kit Instructins: 1. Cmplete the breeder s verificatin frm (picked up with nminatin envelpe r available nline) and uplad it nline with nminatins (crssbred steers d nt need breeder verificatin frm). 2. Three, clred phts must be upladed nline with the nminatin (examples under nminatins). a. The first pht shuld be the full frnt view (head sht) f the steer with exhibitr in full view. b. The secnd and third phts shuld be the full right and left side prfile views f the steer with the exhibitr included. c. All phts must be in full clr and at least 4 x 6 in size. d. If yu are family nminating a steer, yu nly need t uplad the breeder verificatin frm and the pictures t ne family member's name. Make sure all siblings names are n the breeder s certificate. Yu will be prmpted t uplad fr each sibling, but nce yu have upladed the certificate and phts t ne sibling, yu may skip the uplad step fr all ther siblings. Breeding Ewes: All Breeding Ewes must be slick shrn t n lnger than 1/4" and unifrm ver the entire bdy befre entering the shw ring. N wl is allwed abve the knees r hcks. A wl cap is acceptable in the Purebred Breeding Ewe Shw nly. When a ewe enters the makeup arena, the sheep cmmittee will determine if unacceptable wl has been left abve the knees and hcks, including flank wl. If unacceptable wl is determined, the ewe will be disqualified. Market Lambs: When a lamb enters the makeup arena, the sheep cmmittee will determine if unacceptable wl has been left abve the knees and hcks, including flank wl. If unacceptable wl is determined, the lamb will be disqualified. Market Lamb Classificatin: Classificatin will be dne by a three-persn cmmittee, cnsisting f: (1) the designated OYE Shwmanship/Ewe judge, (2) an Oklahma market lamb breeder, and (3) a member f the OYE Sheep Cmmittee. Abslutely NO scters, hver bards, r dgs at the OYE. Subject t fines per warning. Cmmercial Gilts: Day ne f the Cmmercial Gilt Shw weight will be 260 punds and under, and the day tw Cmmercial Gilt Shw weight will be 261 punds and up. Third Grade Students: Gats 3

4 Eight-year-ld students wh are in the 3 rd grade are nw eligible and will be required t be members f Oklahma 4-H. This change ges int effect September 1, Nse Prints n Steers: Nse prints are n lnger required fr nminating steers. Shrpshire Breed: PLEASE NOTE: Beginning at the 2019 OYE, the Shrpshire breed will be eliminated frm the market lamb divisin. Keep in mind these changes d nt g int effect until 2019, the 2018 OYE Market Lamb Shw will include a Shrpshire breed. Reminders Ownership Rule: If an exhibitr allws anther shwman t exhibit their animal(s) at any shw, regardless f the type f shw r state exhibited that has an wnership rule requirement, nce the wnership deadline has ccurred, said animal is deemed ineligible t shw at the Oklahma Yuth Exp, regardless f wnership dcumentatin. Hwever, prir t OYE animal(s) may be exhibited by siblings f the same husehld that are t yung t exhibit at OYE, and nt be deemed ineligible as this wuld be the same as family nminatins. Ownership deadlines differ between species and sex f animals, deadlines can be fund n the Oklahma Yuth Exp s website: Cattle & Swine Shwmanship: Cattle and Swine exhibitrs must qualify thrugh their cunty livestck shw in rder t cmpete in the OYE Shwmanship Cntests. The names f the Grand Champin and Reserve Grand Champin shwmen, in each age divisin (fr bth species), must be submitted nline at by their respective cunty extensin agent. Brnze Medallin Animals: In the market steer, lamb and gat divisins, the Brnze Medallin (third best f shw) can cme frm the same breed as the Grand Champin and Reserve Grand Champin. If this were t ccur, the third animal in the sale rder f said breed wuld pull int the line-up t be cnsidered fr the Brnze Medallin Award. Therefre, all animals selected third verall in a breed behind the Reserve Champins need t be prepared t mve up and shw during the Grand Champin drives. Fitting Cntest Prizes wn in the fitting cntest cannt be returned t the spnsr f the prduct fr a different prduct. De Shw: Exhibitrs will nw be allwed t exhibit 4 ttal des. Hwever, the exhibitr will nly be allwed a maximum f 3 des in ne specific area, breeding des r wether dams. Fr example, an exhibitr may shw 3 wether dam des and 1 breeding de, but the exhibitr culd nt shw all 4 des as breeding des. Champins' Tribute Shwback fr Market Gats and Market Lambs: Exhibitrs will have the pprtunity t purchase a market gat r market lamb at the Champins Tribute sale n September 16, Any animal purchased at the sale is eligible fr exhibitin in the Champins Tribute Shwback held n March 13, 2018 at the OYE. The Grand Champin Champins Tribute wethers will be awarded a lt in the OYE Sale f Champins; which takes place n Friday, March 16, Fr mre details, please see the Champins Tribute rulebk. Gats 4

5 Heifer Ownership Deadline: All heifers, registered and cmmercial, have an wnership deadline f January 20, Shwmanship: Shwmanship fr all species will begin with senirs and end with junirs. There will be NO Master Shwmanship cntest. Market Barrw Sale Order: All exhibitrs are respnsible fr getting their animal t the ring in ample time fr the sale rder line up. The exhibitr will be called ver the sund system three times, after the third time the exhibitr will nt be allwed t shw in the sale rder line up, and all premiums will be frfeited. Night f Stars Gilt Sale Order: Any gilt chsen fr the Night f Stars gilt sale is required t sell. Likewise, ALL gilts must return t the ring fr preliminary and final sale rder. Any exhibitr wh des nt return t the ring with said gilt fr sale rder will be disqualified frm the Oklahma Yuth Exp fr the fllwing year, all prize mney and awards will be frfeited. Gilt Shw Weight: The gilt maximum weight t 340 lbs. Aggressive/Abusive Behavir Twards Livestck: Oklahma Yuth Exp highly discurages, des nt cndne and will nt permit aggressive behavir twards animals; this includes but is nt limited t striking r hitting any animal. As gd stewards f livestck, aggressive striking is nt an ptin r practice. Any exhibitr r anyne assisting an exhibitr is nt allwed t aggressively r ludly pp, slap, hit r strike" their animal at any time during the shw r any place n the fairgrunds prperty. If such behavir is witnessed, the first ffence will be handled with a warning, a secnd ffense will result in the disqualificatin f the exhibitr and all entries by shw management (this includes all shw superintendents). 8 Nminatin Infrmatin Online Nminatins All species will nminate thrugh a self-nminating, nline/mail-in prcess. Market steers, market wether lambs, cmmercial ewes, all gats and all swine are required t nminate. Any incmplete nminatin frm will nt be permitted and subsequently mailed back t the individual. Purpse f Nminatins: The purpse f nminatins is t gather data n each animal fr identificatin purpses and DNA (hair sample) cllectin. Nminatins als serve as verificatin that animals intended fr exhibitin at the 2018 OYE are in pssessin f the exhibitr. It is the respnsibility f the exhibitr s supervising agriculture educatin instructr and the 4-H extensin educatrs t see the animal is in the student s pssessin. See individual specie rules fr wnership requirements. Nminatin Checklist Read OYE s rules t have an understanding f the nminatin prcess and purpse. Market steers, market lambs, cmmercial ewes, all gats and all swine must submit a nminatin. Nminatin kits must be purchased by an agriculture educatin instructr r extensin educatr prir t nline/pstmarked deadlines. See Imprtant Dates n page 6. Tag yur animals with species-specific tags, prvided with nminatin kit purchase. Crrespnd OYE tag number t the prper DNA in the envelpe prir t mailing. Cmplete ALL infrmatin n nminatin envelpe. 11 Agriculture Educatin Instructr / Cunty Extensin Educatr: ALL nminatin envelpes MUST be signed by the supervising agriculture educatin instructr r cunty extensin educatr. If any persn ther than the agriculture educatin instructr r cunty extensin educatr signs the envelpe, it is subject t disqualificatin. Things t Remember When Nminating Animals: A specific animal may be nminated nly nce. A specific animal may NOT be nminated in mre than ne specific breed. An exhibitr may nminate as many animals as he/she wishes. Once the nminatin is submitted nline, n changes will be made. Gats 11

12 General Rules Pertaining t Exhibitrs Entries: All applicants fr entry must be made n the Oklahma Yuth Exp s website via the nline entry sectin. Entries must be made n r befre February 16, 2018, by 12:00 midnight r subject t late entry fees. Each space in the nline entry prcedure must be fully cmpleted. The late entry deadline is February 23, Entry fees must be mailed in by February 23, 2018; fees shuld be accmpanied with the fficial ShWrks receipt and legal release frm. Please retain a cpy fr yur persnal recrds. Entries must be paid by February 23, Payment ptins include: schl check, mney rder, credit card (4% fee), r cash (n persnal check will be accepted). Simply having a nminatin in a student s name is nt sufficient, even if the student is included in a husehld/family nminatin. ALL students MUST have at least ne nline entry in his/her name. In additin, a student will nly be eligible t shw the number f animals he/she has entered nline. Gats 12

13 Fr example, an exhibitr wh has tw barrws entered nline will nly be eligible t shw tw barrws, even if a third barrw was husehld/family nminated under his/her name and even if the family nminated animal is entered under a family members name. There are NO family entries, i.e. just because an animal is entered in ne family members name DOES NOT mean any f the family members can shw it. Maximum Number f Entries: Each eligible exhibitr may enter a maximum f the fllwing: 3 market steers 2 breeding heifers 3 market barrws 3 breeding gilts (cmmercial/purebred) 3 market wether gats 4 de kids (wether dam/breeding) 3 cmmercial breeding ewes 2 purebred breeding ewes (per class) Legal Release: All students must have an fficial legal release frm n file with Oklahma Yuth Exp. This frm must be signed by the exhibitr and his/her parents r legal guardians. These frms are t be btained nline at Any exhibitr wh des nt have a legal release frm will nt be allwed t exhibit animals. If an exhibitr shws withut a signed frm, they will frfeit all winnings, if they are nt willing t sign a legal release. Husehld Nminatins: Students will be allwed t enter and shw any animal nminated by an individual frm their husehld accrding t the fllwing restrictins: The students must all legally reside in the same husehld and share the same legal address. The student wh is entering the animal must have materially participated in the care f the prject. Regarding students eligibility, if a student is declared ineligible, any animal entered in that exhibitr s name will be ineligible fr exhibitin at the 2018 Oklahma Yuth Exp. Each student can nly shw the number f animals entered in their name during the entry prcess in February, if mre entries are cmpleted than allwed fr each exhibitr thse entries must be paid fr, but will nt be allwed t exhibit and n additinal stalling spaces will be given fr thse entries. Animal Substitutin: An exhibitr may substitute ne animal fr anther within the same species and sex as lng as each animal has been prperly nminated and/r satisfies all f the shw eligibility requirements such as wnership, age, etc. Animals that d nt meet the prper nminatin requirements r ther shw eligibility requirements cannt be substituted fr ther animals. ANIMALS MAY NOT BE SUBSTITUTED ACROSS SPECIES OR SEX. Examples are belw: Ex. 1 - An exhibitr may substitute a barrw fr a barrw r a heifer fr a heifer. Gats 13

14 Ex. 2 - An exhibitr may NOT substitute a barrw fr a gilt (different sex), r a wether fr a steer (different species). Ex. 3 - An exhibitr als may NOT substitute a market wether lamb fr a cmmercial ewe. Animal Exhibitin: Exhibitrs may exhibit animals nly nce during the Oklahma Yuth Exp. Animals may nt be nminated r shwn in mre than ne breed. Injured Animal: When the judge determines an animal can n lnger cmpete withut endangering itself, said animal will be disqualified, and the next highest placing animal in that class r preliminary sale rder will be brught in t replace the disqualified animal. Shwing in Apprpriate Weight Class: An exhibitr must shw their animal in the apprpriate weight class. If an exhibitr misses their weight class r shws early fr any reasn, the exhibitr is nt allwed t mve up t the next weight class. Exhibitrs must shw their animal in the apprpriate weight class, if an exhibitr shws their animal in the wrng class they will be disqualified. Release: There will be n trailer r tack releases required t leave the grunds. Herdsmanship: Exhibitrs will be required t keep their spaces and stalls clean by remving any trash and litter and placing it in receptacles prvided fr this purpse. Electricity: Electric equipment and appliances used by exhibitrs must be prperly shielded, grunded if necessary, fr safe peratin; and all electric crds must be in gd cnditin, withut breaks in insulatin. NOTE: All electrical crds must be Underwriters Apprved (UA). All equipment, crds, r appliances are susceptible fr inspectin by the Oklahma City Fire Marshall. False Statements: If it be ascertained any exhibitr has made r caused t be made any false statement in regard t any animal r article, r if any exhibitr shall attempt t interfere with the judges in the perfrmance f their duties, he/she shall be excluded frm cmpetitin. Failure t Exhibit: Exhibitrs making entries and nt exhibiting shall frfeit all fees paid fr entries, stalls, pens, r space. Judges/Premiums: The judges will award premiums nly n articles listed in the OYE rules. The decisins f a judge shall be final and n appeal will be cnsidered (except in case f an fficial prtest). The judges in all departments will be apprved by the Executive Directr, Superintendent and Shw Manager. N ne will be allwed t act as a judge in the class r ring in which he/she r members f his/her immediate family exhibit. Gats 14

15 Prtests: Any prtest must be made in writing and accmpanied by a depsit f $500, f which the depsit will be frfeited if the prtest is nt sustained. Said prtest must state plainly the cause f cmplaint r appeal, and must be filed with the Executive Directr within five hurs after the award was made, being cnsidered the award was made when ribbn r premium card was placed. In additin t the right t prtest herein guaranteed t exhibitrs, management reserves the right t take cgnizance f fraud cnsummated r attempted in cnnectin with an exhibit and take such actin as may be deemed just and prper and as may be warranted. Prtesting Judges Decisin: N cmplaint r appeal based upn the statement that the judge r judges are incmpetent r have verlked an animal r article will be cnsidered by the management. The right f an exhibitr t appeal the decisin f a judge t the management will stand nly when it is charged that the award has been made in vilatin f the rules and regulatins gverning the exhibit r when it is charged that the decisin f the judge has been influenced r interfered with by anther. All Other Disputes: All questins f dispute r differences nt prvided fr under the rules and regulatins shall be referred t the management whse decisin shall be final. Substitute Shwman: Substitutins will nly be allwed fr the fllwing reasns: A. An exhibitr has tw animals in the same class. B. Cnflicts with animals being exhibited at the same time in ther species. B. Sickness r a physical injury dcumented by a physician. D. A pre-apprved 4-H r FFA activity. N ther schl activity will qualify. Steps t btaining a Substitute Shwman: The fllwing is the prcedure, which is t be fllwed t determine a substitute shwman fr all species at the Oklahma Yuth Exp. Once the exhibitr determines ne r mre f the abve mentined circumstances applies t him/her, the exhibitr will: A. Obtain a substitute shwman frm frm the Oklahma Yuth Exp shw ffice r the species superintendent. B. Identify anther exhibitr exhibiting livestck at the Oklahma Yuth Exp in the fllwing manner: a. Immediate Family Member: If an immediate family member is nt present and eligible, then the exhibitr prceeds t step (b). b. An exhibitr frm the exact same FFA Chapter r 4-H Club: If a member f the exhibitr s FFA Chapter r 4-H Club is nt present and eligible, then the exhibitr prceeds t step (c). Gats 15

An exhibitr frm the exact same cunty in which the exhibitr resides: If an exhibitr frm the exact cunty in which the exhibitr resides is nt present and eligible, then the exhibitr prceeds t step (d). d. Finally, an eligible exhibitr exhibiting at the Oklahma Yuth Exp. C. Cmplete the substitute shwman frm prir t the start f the assigned class. D. Turn in frm t the species superintendent fr apprval. Failure t fllw the stated prcedures in requesting a substitute shwman will result in the animal being disqualified. These are t be cmpleted and signed by an agricultural educatin instructr r extensin educatr, stating the reasn and naming the substitute shwman. The card must be cmpleted and returned t the species superintendent issuing the cards prir t the start f the shw. Failure t cmply will disqualify the exhibitr. Shw Ring Dress Cde: All exhibitrs will wear ne f the fllwing: A. 4-H Member: An fficial 4-H vest, jacket, r pullver wind jacket.
