2 7 Day Countdown! It is with much excitement that I open the 6 th issue of Love It! This week we find out more about a couple of the ever supportive sponsors including the Sugar House Stud of Ruth Mealey. We find out all about the small but perfectly formed equestrian establishment owned and ran by Ruth, who over the years has been a real friend and supporter of Kelsall Hill. The Haylage Sale returns always very popular, this is a great opportunity to get a discount on a superb product. I would urge people to take advantage of the special event-only offer. The team are always happy to have a chat with any horse owner to discuss requirements and queries about the haylage too. Next weeks issue is the official Event Issue and it will be crammed full of features as we celebrate what is a significant year for the Kelsall team! Something to look forward to next week, will be the coursewalk feature where we get a sneak preview of the cross country courses many of you will be tackling next weekend! I managed to get out on the course last week and check out some of the imposing obstacles set by Captain Mark Phillips a very exciting weekend of action ahead I can assure you. And finally... Due to the popularity of Love It we are delighted to announce that it will continue on a monthly basis covering all the news from Kelsall Hill, and will return to weekly publication in August when we start the countdown to Septembers event! 5 News in Brief... WORLD CLASS LINE-UP FOR APRIL... The entries listing is more impressive than ever with 735 competitors accepted for the three day competition. The new classes BE80, Intermediate and Open Intermediate have attracted great interest in their debut year. KELSALL HILL ATTENDS HARTHILL STUD OPENING Kelsall Hill were out in force at the opening of Malpas based Harthill Stud. Emma made the trip and set up the brand new Kelsall Hill display which will be used at various events over the coming year as part of their expanding Marketing Strategy. Press Officer Mark Hayward says It is great that Kelsall Hill are starting to get out there now and to be seen at places such as this. The team have a great product and there is a real future ahead of them, so expect to see a real increase in presence over the coming months. WREXHAM VETERINARY JOIN FORCES WITH KELSALL HILL.. Wrexham Vets, now Wrexham Equine Care have become another North West-renowned brand to support the Kelsall Hill Event. Covering North Wales, Shropshire, Cheshire & the Wirral, the practice offers an array of veterinary experience particularly in the equestrian field. Why not log on and find out more ARENA OFFER... The Landtech Arena at Kelsall Hill is the ideal place to perfect those related distances, combinations and tricky show jumping turns that can be all too costly at an event. The Beat the Recession offer comprises 20 per hour for up to 5 horses...! This offer is on trial for April so make good use of it and book now!

6 #loveit 735 Combinations Accepted combinations have been accepted for this April s competition across the 8 classes (BE80, BE90, BE100, BE100 Open, Novice, Open Novice, Intermediate and Open Intermediate). After a ballot in the BE90 sections due to over subscription, the event will see National and International competitors descend on the Cheshire venue as well as riders coming from grassroots level to those regular on the world stage. British Internationals Jeanette Brakewell and Polly Stockton bring numerous rides as well as previous Young Rider champions Ben Hobday and Amy Young. Australian Bill Levett makes the long journey from Gloucestershire while young rider Helen Waterhouse and Andrew Heffernan make for more local representation. The new classes BE80 (T) and Intermediate/OI have attracted great interest in their debut year with 119, 74 and 12 entries respectively. As usual the BE90 and BE100 sections have proved popular, and 143 Novice combinations come forward to challenge the modified tracks. Organiser Phil Latham acknowledged It is great to see so many entries for this Aprils competition, particularly with the huge investment and changes we have put in to make this event the best yet. It is always exciting to see riders from the grassroots level right up to those who have contested on the world stage, as well as seeing both local riders and those from further afield.

10 The Sweet Taste of Success Sugar House Stud is a small venture based in a village in Cheshire and is owned by Ruth Mealey. This week, Ruth tells us all about her exciting venture My aim and dream was to breed top quality performance horses aimed at top level dressage, eventing and show jumping careers; we focus on breeding for QUALITY rather than quantity and as such only produce one or two foals a year. Our most recent success has been with our homebred stallion, Franklyn sugar by Furst Heinrich and out of our special st. pr st Mare, Aileen. Frank was licensed in October The German panel of judges at the BWBS grading were particularly impressed with his loose, elastic movement, and his scopey jump; this combined with a superbly mature temperament make him a very desirable sire. Franklyn Sugar (Furst Heinrich x Accord) A Fürst-Heinrich son, clearly influenced by his sire with a coveted Holstein dam line in his pedigree. He is a modern, elegant and versatile young stallion, with all the attributes needed in the

11 competitive sport horse world. With exceptional conformation, superb front and beautiful head; he commands attention wherever he goes. He is graded BWBS. We are eagerly awaiting his first crop of foals due early spring Frank looks forward to combining a busy competition season with his stud duties; as his temperament to combine both is second to none. This is a really special young stallion with consistent wins at each level he progresses to. Franklyn is a true modern sports horse stallion with the star appeal teamed with the all important trainability factor. He has that rare mixture of presence and performance and looks to be an exciting sire for the future. 12 Emma s Diary #loveit Emma Latham, Kelsall Hill s In-House Head Of Marketing fills us in on her weekly update from HQ The Easter weekend seems to have come and gone in a flash with so much going on now! I really cant believe that in just over a week, over 700 riders will descend on us and the event will be getting in to full swing! This week has been a busy one but I made time to pop to Harthill Stud to use our brand new marketing screen we have had made. I am looking forward to getting out and about to various events with it so do keep your eyes peeled! My sponsors, tradestands and exhibitors are pretty much all confirmed now, but should anyone want to enquire about a last minute entry please get in touch. I am particularly looking forward to meeting the Forward Ladies at their Friday Coffee Morning a great innovation and hopefully something that will become a regular occurrence at future events. Seeing the entry list is always something of interest, and I am delighted to see both local riders and those from further afield. The Farmers Market, Car Boot and Tradestand Area s are looking hugely exciting and those final preparations of sending out car passes are almost complete. Jane has been busy this week organising equipment and packs for officials and volunteers, whilst Phil is now out on the course on a daily basis organising posts, string, fences and ground preparations!
