1 Z NEWS JUNE 2011 VOLUME 39-6 The Official Newsletter of Z Owners of Northern California Last Minute Update for Turn Z Infineon Raceway June 4, 2011 By Ann Devor ZONC and Motoring J Style are hosting Turn Z at the Sonoma Historics at Infineon Raceway on Saturday June 4. All ZONC members are invited to bring their Zs, Gs, 510s, Roadsters and GTRs to Infineon Raceway where we will take our cars on a parade lap around the track after the races at the end of the day. ZONCers and other Japanese sports cars will park at Turn 7 at the top of the track. From there, we will line up for our parade lap around 5:00 p.m. While we wait, awards in seven categories will be given to the best Datsun, Nissan and Infiniti sportscars in the corral. Most important is the link to the special Turn Z Ticketmaster web page and event pricing. Tickets for Turn Z will not be sold at the gate. ZONC BOARD MEETING June 19, NOON The June ZONC Board Meeting is set for June 19th at Mary's Pizza Shack, 1500 Oliver Road, Fairfield,Ca. The meeting will start at 12 noon. The agenda is the Annual Car Show at Brisbane and other business. Everyone is welcome to attend! NOMINATION TIME AGAIN Hard to believe, but yes it is time to nominate people for ZONC office again. Nominations of candidates for elected office must be submitted in a written statement not to exceed 150 words, by June 10th, to the Z News for inclusion in the July Z News. 2 Z News June 2011 PRESIDENT'S C O R N E R Make your membership work for you! We join clubs/organizations for a variety of reasons: some join for the camaraderie, to meet new people, some join for the activities that members enjoy, some join for the discounts that members benefit from, some join for the information that is shared among members, and some join just to be part of something. ZONC offers all of this and more! ZONC, the second oldest Z car club in America, offers many activities, discounts, information, and opportunities to meet new people. ZONC is registered as a non profit corporation with the Secretary of State of California. ZONC is an organized car club with a Constitution, a Board of Directors, and dues paying members. The Board of Directors meets monthly, with quarterly General Membership meetings. All meetings are within our Northern California Area and our Officers and Representatives are volunteers. ZONC offers many activities that our members enjoy: day runs, meet and greets, corrals at events at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Infineon Raceway, Tech days at some of our vendors and dealerships, a Birthday Picnic for the club, and an installation brunch for the incoming Board of Directors. Most of our events are free for members, with a nominal fee for guests. ZONC has a website at: ZON.org. Our website is updated constantly with information regarding our Calendar of Events and we have a PayPal link to handle our financial transactions. ZONC.org has a Members Only section where members have access to our vendors and dealerships the offer discounts to our members. ZONC.org has a Forum section where members can chat with other Z car owners. Contact information for our Board of Directors and Area Representatives can be found on our website. Final Reminder Monterey Motorsports Reunion Deadline is 6/30/11! Get your tickets and corral passes for the Monterey Motorsports Reunion before the deadline on June 30th. The Historics car races are coming up on August 19-21, 2011 at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway and ZONC plans on having a corral on Saturday, August 20. This year the races will include Can Am race cars, the top racers from 1969 to Formula One cars will also compete in another race. With so many vintage race cars for close-up viewing in the pits and on the track, this event is an opportunity to look at rare racecars that you won t see elsewhere. Tickets for the corral ($10) are available only through ZONC along with your purchase of at least one event ticket Friday ($50), Saturday ($70), Sunday ($60), Saturday & Sunday ($100), or the 3-day super ticket ($130). The pricing is different this year, as the corral pass (good for all three days) is an additional purchase, so make sure you buy both the ticket and the corral pass. 6 Z News June 2011 ZONC's seven car corral at the Concours MARIN SONOMA CONCOURS By Bob & Marci Jenkins The show was a little light on show cars because of the weather, but it was still very nice, with something for everyone, including a Wells Fargo stagecoach. The morning of Sunday, May 15th found ZONCers If you would like to see pictures of most of the cars in braving rain and hail to get to their car corral at the the show, go to : Marin Sonoma Concours d' Elegance in San Rafael. There was Bill West in his brown 240Z, Andy Wiskes in his red 240Z, and Larry & Robert in their blue 240Z. Then there was Ann Devor & Paul Gommel in their gray 350Z, Bill (my windowshield wipers have never felt rain before) Roth in his turbo white 350Z, and Bob & Marci Jenkins in their orange 350Z. And finally GT-R Roy (I can't believe I'm doing this) Dorn. Despite the rain and hail (by the time the show opened the weather had turned nice and stayed that way for the rest of the day) I think everyone had a good time.
