Mingus High School Car Show, held on Saturday March 23, apparently had 75 cars and a lot of very enthusiastic students. Correction, old time club members, Steve and Sandy Hurt, have not relocated back in the Flagstaff area but remain in New Mexico. During the Route 66 Mother Road update, Sean Evans reports that there is a plan afoot to refurbish the old El Pueblo Motel, built in 1937 by Phillip Johnston, and turn it into a Code Takers Museum. The motel served as a recruiting site for Navajos to join the Marines as code takers.

4 PAGE 4 MARCH LADIES LUNCHEON The March Ladies Luncheon was held at the Golden Dragon Restaurant off of Steves Blvd. Seven Ladies went and we hear the food was excellent, and well priced. 5 PAGE 5 CRUISE TO THE FLAGSTAFF MODEL TRAIN MUSEUM AND TO THE JOY CONE FACTORY. Pictures by Alan St. Germain Our Club enjoyed a tremendous two-for-the-price-of-one cruise on Saturday, March 16. While the weather of previous days was a bit shaky, this Saturday turned out to be awesome for a cruise. We first grouped up at the parking lot behind Freddie's before caravanning down the 89 to Fort Tuthill. We then had a private tour of the Flagstaff Model Train Museum. Lead by Curtis Deibel, we had explanations on their layouts, train control systems and track sizes. A number of us got a rare behind the scenes glimpse to see the underneath wiring of the tracks. Check out the intricate dioramas, mostly done by Curtis himself. An hour later our entire group left the museum and traveled across the I-17 to the Joy Cone Factory. There Adriana took charge and provided us with a tour on the facility, explaining the manufacturing of the many different types and shapes of cones they produce. We even got fresh as it gets samples which Adriana pulled off of the assembly line. And finally we got to the pot at the end of the rainbow: Joy Cone and Adriana lavished us with ice cream cones and sample boxes of cones to take home. 8 GARAGE TALES PAGE 8 MY NEW 1957 AUSTIN HEALEY by Mathew Maribelle Found it on line, drove with a friend to Benicia Cal ( wine country 760 miles ) in a rental car. Inspected, paid, watched the transporter pick it. The second owner from 1975 passed in Dec 18. The family consigned it to a dealer, CLASSIC CARS in Benicia. They included 5 more spare wire wheels, a tonneau cover, and the convertible top which I recently installed. Shop manuals, parts catalogs were also included. A total of 1500 miles driven in 36 hours. But it was worth the trip! If you ever need a good transporter company I would definitely recommend the company I used. Good luck with car searches on the internet. A few suggestions. Beware there are many scams, never send money up front. Spend the money on air fare or drive to see the car. It will save u grief and a lot of $. Mathew

9 PAGE 9 CRUISE TO MISS KITTY S STEAK HOUSE & LOUNGE Story and Pictures by Alan St Germain On Saturday, April 6 th, Richard Federico lead the pack out of ADOT to Miss Kitty s Steak House & Lounge in Williams, AZ. This spontaneous car cruise of the three car clubs here in Flagstaff was a great success. We were well received by Mayer John Moore and his wife Kim (Kitty) on this special 1 year anniversary of their grand opening of Miss Kitty s Steak House & Lounge. Miss Kitty s is normally closed for lunch, but they opened their doors for this special engagement of the car clubs. To make the time a little more exciting, two participants won dinners for two for having their cars chosen as an Eye catcher of the hotel and restaurant property owners. The weather turned out to be great with very little to no rain. After lunch, a number of participants cruised Route 66 in Williams and ended up at Twister s Soda fountain for dessert. It was a great day, and I look forward to the next tri-club event! Continued Next Page
