THE ROAD TO KC the Vikings were the No. 1 seed in the West Region after winning both the GNAC regular-season and tournament titles entered the NCAA II tournament with a record have gone 3-0 in NCAA tournament play with wins over Central Washington (2-0, 2nd round in Bellingham), UC San Diego (2-1 in OT in West Region Final in Golden, CO) and Colorado Mines (5-1 in quarterfinals in Golden, CO). THE POSTSEASON counting the GNAC tournament, WWU is 5-0 during the postseason outscored opponents 15-3 in the playoff matches Gabriela Pelogi leads the Vikings with 5 goals and 1 assist for 11 points freshman Liv Larson has 3 goals, including 2 in the quarterfinal win over Colorado Mines including this season the Vikings are 12-6 all-time in NCAA II Tournament play. ALL-REGION SELECTIONS Sierra Shugarts (1st team), Emily Webster (1st team), Caitlyn Jobanek (1st team), Gabriela Pelogi (2nd team) and Ashley Homer (2nd team) were named to the D2CCA All-West Region Team. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Final Four (Again) WWU is making their third national semifinal appearance in the last four years. NCAA Tournament WWU is making its fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament and hosted at least one NCAA game for the fourth straight year. No. 1 WWU is No. 1 in the NSCAA Division II rankings (debuted at No. 1 on 10/11). Undefeated The Vikings are and have a 22-game winning streak (season-opening tie). Player of the Year Junior Sierra Shugarts was named the GNAC Player of the Year. Academic Success Five players earned All-GNAC Academic honors: Elise Aylward, Becca Cates, Sophia Kallas, Sierra Shugarts, Emily Webster Aylward and Cates are three-time All-GNAC Academic selections Aylward was also selected as a third-team Academic All-American with a 3.84 GPA (French). GNAC The Vikings won their 5th consecutive GNAC regular-season title and 3rd GNAC Tournament. Perfect GNAC Record WWU finished the GNAC season with a perfect record joins Seattle Pacific as the only other team to complete a GNAC regular season with a perfect (no ties) record SPU went in league play in 2007 while advancing to the NCAA II Final Four. Homegrown 21 of 26 players on the WWU roster (80.7%) are from the state of Washington. Shutouts WWU has 16 shutouts (9 of last 13) to tie a program record and rank T4th in NCAA II. Defense WWU is 4th in NCAA II with a goals against average allowed only 53 shots on goal all season (8 goals) aiming to break team record for goals against average (0.320 in 2014). 4 SOCCER U both the WWU women s (5th consecutive) and men s (1st ever) soccer programs advanced to the NCAA Division II Championships Western is one of 13 Division II schools where both programs advanced to the NCAA Championships, joining Lenoir- Rhyne, Limestone, Fort Hays State, Rockhurst, West Chester, Charleston (WVa), Adelphi, LIU Post, Sonoma State, UC San Diego, Midwestern State and St. Edward s the WWU men earned a 3-2 overtime win over Dixie State in their tournament debut, but lost 2-0 in the second round to Final Four participant UCSD. GNAC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS the Vikings won their record fifth consecutive GNAC regular-season championship and second straight GNAC Tournament finished the conference slate with a perfect record and breezed through the tournament with wins over Simon Fraser (3-0) and Seattle Pacific (3-1) the conference final was moved to Bellingham after fog made the game unplayable at Terry Fox Field in Burnaby, BC WWU remained undefeated in GNAC Tournament play at 8-0-2, playing in the championship game each season since the inaugural game in 2012 WWU and SPU have met in all five of the GNAC Championships Finals, with Western winning three titles and SPU the other two (both on PK shootouts). GNAC TOURNAMENT MVP sophomore forward Gabriela Pelogi was named the GNAC Tournament MVP after scoring three goals in the championship Pelogi scored the final goal in WWU s 3-0 victory over Simon Fraser and had a pair of goals in the victory over Seattle Pacific she becomes the third Viking to earn the GNAC Tournament MVP award, joining Caitlyn Jobanek (2015) and Kristin Maris (2012). 5 THE RECORD WWU is undefeated at , with a current 20-game winning streak after opening the season with a 0-0 draw against No. 24 Sonoma State, the Vikings have rattled off 22 consecutive victories for the second-longest winning streak in program history (38 straight from during the current 22-game winning streak WWU has outscored its opponent 60-8 the winning streak is the longest active streak at the Division II level, Columbus State (16 games) and Grand Valley State (13 games) having the next longest DII streaks the streak is the longest active amongst schools at all NCAA levels (I, II, III). THE CHAMPS Western secured its record fifth consecutive regular-season GNAC Championship has won the regular-season crown each season since 2012 and overall owns six GNAC regular-season championships (also: 2008) broke the record of four consecutive GNAC regular-season crowns held by Seattle Pacific from the Vikings have won two of the four GNAC Championship Tournaments (2012, 2015), while Seattle Pacific won the other two (2013, 2014). PLAYER OF THE YEAR senior defender Sierra Shugarts was named the GNAC Player of the Year, becoming the third WWU player to earn GNAC Player of the Year honors she joins current assistant coach Jamie Arthurs (2012) and Kristin Maris (2013) Shugarts has controlled one of the best defenses in the nation this season, helping limit opponents to a goals against average (4th in NCAA II) and 16 shutouts (T4th in NCAA II) opposing teams have only managed to get off 53 shots on goal this season much to the help of her stifling defense in addition to her top-level defense, has scored 4 goals (2 game-winners) and an assist for 9 total points, while starting all 22 matches, missing just a handful of minutes during the undefeated season she became the first player in conference history to earn back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week honors September 26-October 2 and October 3-9. DEFENDER OF THE YEAR junior midfielder Emily Webster repeated as a first-team GNAC All-Star and continued the tradition of a Viking being named the Defensive Player of the Year for the fifth consecutive season Webster joins Brina Sych (2012), Brianna Jones (2013), Kim Cooper (2014) and Delanee Nilles (2015) as WWU players to earn the honor Webster has started all 22 matches this season and has been an integral part both in one of the top defense (4th in NCAA II in GAA) and offense (15th in NCAA II in scoring offense) in the nation she heads into the Final Four with a team-leading 8 assists (2 in postseason). NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR junior goalkeeper Ashley Homer was named the GNAC Newcomer of the Year and a second-team GNAC All-Star she redshirted last season as a transfer from the College of Saint Rose Homer is the second WWU player to earn the award in the 16-year history of the league, joining Rosie Zadra in 2005 Homer has been solid in the net, allowing only 7 goals in 21 starts (1,935 minutes) in her inaugural season in the GNAC, and recorded 12 clean sheets she is currently 4th in NCAA Division II with a goals against average, and is the active career leader at the Division II level with a 0.34 GAA counting her seasons at the College of Saint Rose (ranked 3rd in NCAA II with GAA).

8 STREAKING AT HARRINGTON Western has won 25 consecutive home matches, including postseason matches, but not including exhibition games were in 2015 and this season at Harrington Field set the GNAC record on October 22 with a 4-1 win over Central Washington with 23 consecutive home victories, breaking the previous mark of 22 consecutive home wins by Seattle Pacific ( ) the Vikings are also unbeaten in their last 40 regular-season home games, tying the GNAC record by SPU the last regularseason home defeat was Oct. 27, 2012 vs. Seattle Pacific (Orca Field at Whatcom Community College). HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE WWU is in its third full season playing home matches in the on-campus facility Robert S. Harrington Field the Vikings are all-time at Harrington Field including going last season and this season (won 25 consecutive games at Harrington Field) only Harrington Field defeat was a 1-0 loss to #4 Cal State Stanislaus in the first round of the 2014 NCAA II West Regional. YOUNG TEAM the Vikings active roster of 26 players consists of 7 true freshman, 4 redshirt freshman, 5 sophomores, 5 juniors and 5 seniors replaced 9 seniors, including All-GNAC selections Catherine Miles, Delanee Nilles, Savanna Moorehouse, Ashley Haden and Stephanie Hamilton. JOBANEK AND SHUGARTS NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK Caitlyn Jobanek and Sierra Shugarts swept the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Players of the Week awards for September 26-October 2 Jobanek shared offensive player of the week honors, scoring three goals in WWU s games vs. Saint Martin s and Concordia Shugarts was named the defensive player of the week helping lead the Vikings to a pair of victories with her stifling defense, and added her first career goal against Concordia. 9 A NIGHT TO REMEMBER the September 22 match vs. No. 10 vs. Bridgeport (WWU won 5-0) was featured as an NCAA Division II Fall Game of the Week and streamed live on ESPN3 and WatchESPN the Vikings and Purple Knights were both national semifinalists last season and entered the season ranked No. 3 and No. 4 respectively in the NSCAA preseason poll the match is one of three NCAA Division II selections, with one each from women s soccer, men s soccer (St. Edward s vs. Colorado School of Mines) and women s volleyball (Wheeling Jesuit vs. West Florida) these three games are part of Division II s new media agreement.
