It is 1 also the Flames' first-ever matchup against an SEC opponent. Liberty is seeking its first-ever victory over Auburn in any team sport, after falling to the Tigers in men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball and men's tennis in previous years. Turner Gill is facing the Tigers for the second 2 time as a head coach. During his first season at Buffalo (2006), Gill's Bulls suffered a 38-7 loss at No. 2 Auburn on Sept. 23. Gill is one of two staff members from Nebraska's 1994 national championship game who will be part of Saturday's game, along with Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele. Liberty is meeting Power Five opponents in back-toback games for the first time in program history. Liberty is facing a team from Alabama for the third consecutive season. The Flames lost a 3 home game against Jacksonville State in 2016 and dropped a return trip to Jacksonville State a year ago. Liberty is 1-0 versus teams from the Heart of Dixie so far this season, thanks to a home win over Troy on Oct. 13. Liberty has only played four games in program history before crowds of 50,000 or greater. 4 That number is likely to grow on Saturday, as Auburn's smallest home attendance of the 2018 season to date is 83,792. Four Liberty players hail from Alabama, including FB Mitchell Lewis. The redshirt sophomore graduated from Lee-Scott Academy, located four miles from Jordan-Hare Stadium. LAST GAME PLAYED IN ALABAMA SEPT. 23, 2017 NO. 5/7 JACKSONVILLE STATE 31, NO. 16 LIBERTY 10 JACKSONVILLE, ALA. (BURGESS-SNOW FIELD) Jacksonville State scored 24 unanswered points during the second and third quarters, sending the Gamecocks to their second win over the Flames in as many years. Stephen Calvert passed for 285 yards for the Flames, including 126 to Antonio Gandy-Golden and 93 to B.J. Farrow. However, Liberty was limited to 31 rushing yards on 27 attempts. Solomon McGinty contributed 2.5 tackles for a loss and an interception for the Liberty defense. ON THIS DATE: Liberty is 3-2 all-time when playing on Nov. 17. NOV. 17 A Liberty Win Would... Mark the Flames' first-ever victory over Auburn and first-ever triumph against an SEC opponent. Make Alabama the 17th different state in which Liberty has won a game in program history. Mark the Flames' fifth win this season, moving them to within one victory of bowl eligibility. Keep the Flames' hopes of a 13th consecutive winning season alive. Snap the Flames' two-game losing streak and their threegame road losing skid. Improve the Flames' all-time November record under Turner Gill to Halt the Tigers' eight-game home winning streak vs. non-conference foes. Clemson was the last non-conference team to win at Auburn (Sept. 3, 2016) UNIFORM TRACKER The Liberty football program is outfitted by Nike and has 27 different helmet/jersey/pants combinations to choose from during the 2018 season. He has thrown for 300+ yards in five of his first nine games in Gandy-Golden tallied 1,066 receiving yards and 10 TDs last season. He is averaging receiving yards per game in 2018, which ranks No. 5 among all FBS wideouts. Gandy- Golden is 118 yards away from his second straight 1,000-yard season. ONE TO WATCH A. Gandy-Golden Liberty junior WR Antonio Gandy-Golden was added to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List on Nov. 5. The Biletnikoff Award, which annually recognizes the outstanding FBS receiver in college football, will be presented live on Dec. 6, 2018, on The Home Depot College Football Awards presented by Gildan to be broadcast on ESPN. Gandy-Golden leads the Flames with 882 receiving yards, 53 receptions and nine TDs this season. He has posted four 100- yard games in 2018, including a pair of 200-yard outings. NO LEMON HERE! Jessie Lemonier A. Gandy-Golden Junior DE Jessie Lemonier has terrorized opposing quarterbacks during his first season at Liberty. He leads the Flames in sacks (9.0) and tackles for a loss (12.5), with six of his sacks coming in the last three games. Lemonier is one of only five FBS players averaging 1.0 or more sacks per game this season. SUMMARIZING THE STREAK Liberty enters the 2018 season having posted a winning record for a program-best 12 consecutive years ( ). The Flames own a record since the start of the 2006 season. Only eight other FBS programs have recorded a winning record in 12 or more consecutive seasons entering 2018, as recognized by the NCAA. Virginia Tech - 25 seasons ( ) Boise State - 20 seasons ( ) Oklahoma - 19 seasons ( ) LSU - 18 seasons ( ) Wisconsin - 16 seasons ( ) Penn State - 13 seasons ( ) Oklahoma State - 12 seasons ( ) USC - 12 seasons ( ) BOWL AGREEMENT Liberty Athletics and the AutoNation Cure Bowl announced a two-year bowl agreement for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. The AutoNation Cure Bowl is played each December at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla. The game is televised nationally on CBS Sports Network. The 2018 AutoNation Cure Bowl will be played on Dec. 15, while the 2019 AutoNation Cure Bowl will be contested on Dec. 21. Although Liberty is currently in the middle of its two-year FBS transition process, the NCAA bylaws do have provisions for the Flames to qualify for a bowl game in 2018 provided Liberty has successfully transitioned to year two of its FBS transitional status and is a deserving team SLOGANS Liberty Athletics has adopted the Rise With Us slogan for the athletics year, with the football program moving up to the FBS level and 17 of the Flames other 19 programs moving to the ASUN Conference. As a team, Liberty s football program has selected the theme Respect All, Fear None based on the Bible scripture passage in I Peter 2:17. Liberty Football will Respect All, as it faces its most challenging schedule in program history, but will Fear None as it ventures into its first season of FBS football. 7
