Senior forward Mallory Ladd set career highs in points (31) and field goals made (10) as the University of Evansville women s basketball team (1-2) lost at IPFW on Friday evening. Ladd s 31 points fell just four shy of Ashli Senff who set the program record with 35 points at Wichita State on December 30, Aside from Ladd, the Aces scored just 28 points from the rest of the team. Evansville s next highest scorer was senior guard Khristian Hart, who had nine points. Sophomore guard Sara Dickey was limited to six points on the evening and was held to single digit points for just the second time in her 34 game collegiate career. UE fell behind early as IPFW scored the opening six points and held a 14-4 advantage before the first media timeout. Ladd netted the first seven points of the game for Evansville, fueling an early comeback. After Hart made a pair of free throws, junior guard Laura Friday hit a three from the wing at 14:05 to pull UE within two, IPFW responded by scoring 14 of the next 17 points to rebuild a double digit advantage. Brett Green and Courtney Ogle both hit two threes each during that rally to establish a lead. UE cut the deficit in half over the final 7:32 to trail the Mastodons by just six points, entering halftime. Ladd had a gamehigh 19 points in the first ahlf on 7-for-12 shooting, sinking 3-for-4 threes and a perfect 2-for-2 free throws. Dickey was held scoreless in the first half, going 0-for-1 from the floor and 0-for-2 at the free throw line. The score waivered a bit in the second half until Dickey s layup at 10:44 brought UE within four points, Seconds later, Ladd picked up her fourth foul and was relegated to the bench to avoid collecting her fifth foul. With Ladd on the bench, IPFW immediately went on an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach. The Mastodons led by as much as 20 points in the game, shooting 51% from the floor and going 11-for-28 on threes in the win. Evansville, by comparison, shot just 38% in the loss. Freshman Kenyia Johnson scored her first collegiate basket, totaling three points in the defeat. 4

A homecoming for junior Samantha Heck, the Auxvasse, Mo. native led the University of Evansville women s basketball team with 16 points and nine rebounds, as the Purple Aces fell Monday night at the University of Missouri. Sophomore Katie Ellerson, who made her first career start, also logged a career-high 16 points with four three-pointers. The loss drops Evansville to 3-8 on the season, while Mizzou improved to 8-1 on the year. The Aces took an early 5-4 lead on a jumper by Ellerson, but the Tigers responded with a 10-0 run to take a 14-5 advantage at the 15:11 mark. Evansville battled back, however, to cut the margin to three, 14-11, on back-to-back baskets by sophomore Miranda Liles and Heck. With 4:06 remaining, the Tigers took their largest lead of the game, a 26-point advantage, but Ellerson s fourth three of the game and two free throws by Heck made the final score Post players Christine Flores and BreAnna Brock both scored 25 points for the Tigers, as Mizzou shot 49.1 percent (28-for-57) from the field and 31.6 percent (6-for-19) from three. Evansville shot 32.1 percent (17-for-53) from the floor and 23.1 percent (6-for-26) from behind the arc. Unfortunately, the Tigers used an 11-2 run to take a double-digit lead into the break, In the second half, Mizzou stretched that lead to 16, 38-22, with 16:52 remaining. The Aces got within 10 points, 40-30, on a jumper by freshman Kat Taylor with 13:55 left, but that was as close as Evansville would get the rest of the way. 5

Evansville finished in 4th during the season. SARA THE SENSATIONAL Sophomore guard Sara Dickey was to the Preseason All-MVC First Team in October. Last season, Dickey was selected to the Postseason All-MVC First Team after her 546 point season. Sara was also recognized as the Co-Freshman of the year with Drake forward Lizzy Wendell. Dickey s 546 points last season are second most of any student athlete in UE women s basketball history and trails only Wendell and Southwest Missouri State guard Jackie Stiles for most points by a freshman in MVC history. STEADY INCREASE The Lady Aces have seen their win total increase each year under head coach Oties Epps. After a five win opening season from Evansville in , UE won another nine games in and an additional 15 games last season. BEGINNING ON A HIGH NOTE The Purple Aces have won eight of their last 11 season openers. UE is also 2-1 in season debuts during Oties Epps tenure as head coach. In Epps opening season, Evansville lost at Murray State. UE responded in the 2012 season opener by winning at Ball State. The Aces also won their opener in 2013 when they topped Eastern Illinois UPCOMING ROAD SWING After beginning the season at home on November 16 vs. Austin Peay, the Aces will go on the road for their next five straight non-conference games. UE will play at Ball State on November 19, at IPFW on November 21, at West Virginia on November 26, at UT Martin November 29 and at Murray State on December 3. COMING BACK HOME Following five consecutive road games, Evansville wil be back at home for three straight home games. After a road game at Murray State to begin December, the Aces will host Miami (Ohio) on December 6, then Oakland City on December 9 and Troy on December 18. WINDOW CLEANING Evansville had the highest defensive rebound total and average in the MVC last year. UE s 894 defensive rebounds were the most in the league. In addition to Evansville adding six newcomers (two transfers) to its roster, the Purple Aces coaching staff has also endured a change. Former assistant coach FahKara Malone has accepted a similar position at Butler University. UE hired Wisconsin standout forward Anya Covington as a new assistant coach. Covington served as a graduate assistant for current NIU head coach and former UE head coach Kathi Bennett during the season. In Covington s one season with the Huskies, Northern Illinois finished with an overall record of 11-19, including a 6-12 record in the Mid-American Conference. As a player at Wisconsin, Covington was named honorable mention All-Big Ten in 2012, after averaging 10.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. 6

Under Epps, three Aces earned spots on All-MVC squads, including Sara Dickey, who was named the MVC Co-Freshman of the Year, after a historic season in which she scored 546 points to rank second on both the MVC s freshman scoring list and Evansville s single-season scoring list. UE also saw junior forward Mallory Ladd become honorable mention All-MVC and guard Dakota Weatherford be named to the MVC All-Freshman team. As a team, the Aces were the Valley s top defensive team in terms of field goal percentage, as they limited opponents to a 38.1 percent field goal percentage and a 26.8 percent clip from behind the arc. In just his second season as head coach, Epps led Evansville in to its best record in Missouri Valley Conference play since The Purple Aces posted an overall mark of 9-21 and went 7-11 in league play to place seventh in the MVC regular-season standings during the season. In addition, Samantha Heck was named to the All-MVC Second Team and Mallory Ladd received All-MVC honorable mention status, marking the first time that two UE players were named to All-Valley squads in the same season since Epps squad also made history during the campaign, as the Aces drained a school-record 15 three-pointers in a win over San Jose State. Epps completed his first season at the helm in with a focus on building a base and framework for the program s revitalization. Under Epps, the Purple Aces finished with a 5-25 overall record, went 2-16 in the Valley and posted a win over 2012 NCAA Tournament participant Creighton. Epps earned his first career victory on November 26th, when guided the Aces to a win over Troy at the Dead River Company Classic hosted by the University of Maine. He also piloted Evansville to a second-place finish in the Aces Winter Classic. Prior to becoming part of the Evansville family, Epps spent three seasons at the University of Wisconsin, joining Lisa Stone s staff in The Badgers were in his three seasons in Madison. The 2009 squad reached the Big Ten Tournament semifinals for the first time in school history, and advanced to the third round of the WNIT. In 2010, the team won 20 game, earned an NCAA Tournament berth for the first time since 2002 and finished third in the Big Ten for its highest finish ever. In addition, Stone was selected as the Big Ten Coach of the Year after the 2010 campaign. Epps was promoted to Defensive Coordinator for the season and was instrumental in helping the Badgers fnished second in the Big Ten in scoring defense and fourth in field goal percentage defense. Wisconsin again finished third in the Big Ten standings and went on to play in the WNIT during that season despite a season-ending injury to its third-leading scorer Tara Steinbauer. A native of Highland Park, Mich., Epps played three years of collegiate basketball at Mt. Senario College before transferring to the University of Wisconsin-Stout, where he earned his bachelor s degree in Human Development and Family Studies in 2002 and his master s degree in Education in Epps stayed at Wisconsin-Stout and served as an assistant men s coach until 2004, prior to serving as an assistant women s coach at Cleveland State for four seasons. While serving under head coach Kate Peterson, CSU won only four games in each of Epps first two season, but the Vikings quickly improved. In his final season with the Vikings, Cleveland State captured the Horizon League Tournament title, reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history and produced school s most successful season in 24 years by winning 19 games. In his seven years as an assistant women s coach, a total of nine players, both at Cleveland State and Wisconsin, earned all-conference honors. Epps and his wife Kelly have three daughters, Makayla, Madison and Aliah. 8
9 PLAYER PROFILES Matt Ruffing Assistant Coach 4th Season Dayton 07 Matt Ruffing enters his fourth season with the Aces and operates closely with Coach Oties Epps in regards to UE s offense, in addition to working with post players, assisting with recruiting efforts and handling scheduling. Ruffing spent four seasons on the staff at the University of Akron prior to coming to Evansville. He began as a graduate assistant during the season and was promoted to an assistant coach the following year. With the Zips, Ruffing served as the scouting and equipment coordinator, assisted with recruiting, handled film exchange and assisted with pre and postseason conditioning. Prior to Akron, he was a student assist and head manager at the University of Dayton. At Dayton, Ruffing helped coordinate the team s tape exchange and assisted with the daily operations of practice. Ashley Barlow Assistant Coach 2nd Season Notre Dame 10 Ashley Barlow enters her second season as an assistant coach, after spending two seasons as an assistant at IUPUI. With the Jaguars, Barlow worked closely with the guards and was in charge of travel and film exchange, while assisting with recruiting, scouting and game planning. In , Barlow helped guide IUPUI to a record and a berth in the Postseason WNIT. Prior to her coaching career, Barlow completed a historic career at Notre Dame in 2010, where she emerged as one of the most versatile players in Fighting Irish women s basketball history. She is the only player in Notre Dame basketball history, male or female, to eclipse 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 250 assists and 250 steals in a career. Anya Covington Assistant Coach 1st Season Wisconsin 12 A former Wisconsin standout, Covington is in her first season as an assistant coach for the UE women s basketball team. Covington served as a graduate assistant for current NIU head coach and former UE head coach Kathi Bennett during the season. In Covington s one season with the Huskies, Northern Illinois finished with an overall record of 11-19, including a 6-12 record in the Mid-American Conference. As a player at Wisconsin, Covington made 123 appearances on the court for the Badgers and served as team captain during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Covington was named honorable mention All-Big Ten in 2012, after averaging 10.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Doug Rogers Director of Operations 2nd Season Wisconsin 13 Doug Rogers joined the Evansville coaching staff in the summer of 2013 and is in his second season as the director of basketball operations. Prior to coming to UE, Rogers served as the head manager at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for three seasons, where he assisted with day-to-day operations, recruiting and practice coordination, and served as the co-director of the 2012 Bobbie Kelsey Summer Camps. A native of Lake Zurich, Ill., Rogers graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor s degree in accounting. 9
