Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside the NIU Convocation Center in DeKalb, Ill. The Eagles enter the game with a mark of 19-7 (9-5 MAC), two games behind the University of Toledo which sits atop the MAC West Division. Meanwhile, the Huskies are (4-10 MAC) and currently projected to be the ninth seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament.» A BULLSEYE ON NORTHERN ILLINOIS: Saturday s contest versus Northern Illinois University marks the 33rd meeting between the Huskies and Eagles, who first met during the season. Eastern leads the overall series, 23-9, and has won 18 of the last 21 games over the Cardinal and Black. In the first meeting this season, at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, Mich., Jan. 16, the Eagles rallied from a sluggish first half to turn on the offense in time to record a win over the Huskies. Sophomore guard Tavelyn James paced the Eagles with a game-high 29 points while junior guard Cassie Schrock added 17. Senior guard Kylie York led NIU with 23 with redshirt junior Marke Freeman adding 17 and sophomore guard Sarah Rogers scoring 13. * Mid-American Conference game; All times are site times $ 2010 MAC Tournament (campus sites; top four teams receive byes) $ 2010 MAC Tournament (Quicken Loans Arena Cleveland, Ohio) For tickets, call , or visit, EMUEagles.com INTERNET RADIO RADIO None Free Internet broadcast at EMUEagles.com or WEMU.org INTERNET VIDEO Brian NIUHuskies.com Nemerovski (PXP) will call the action. Per the final regular-season conference standings, the top four seeds will automatically advance to the quarterfinal round, with seeds 5-12 battling it out on campus sites in first round action to fillout the remaining four quarterfinal spots. Bowling Green would earn the top seed, while No. 2 Toledo, No. 3 Kent State and No. 4 Akron would also earn the byes and go directly to Cleveland s Quicken Loans Arena. Central Michigan would be the sixth seed hosting No. 11 Buffalo, No. 7 Miami would tangle with No. 10 Ohio and No. 8 Ball State would play No. 9 Northern Illinois. SEEKING VICTORY 20: A victory Saturday would give the Eagles their fourth 20-win season in the past seven seasons. Prior to the campaign, Eastern Michigan had never won more than 18 games in a single year. WINNING ON THE ROAD: With its victory over Ball State, Feb. 13, Eastern Michigan tied the school record for most road victories in a single season at nine. This comes on the heals of a campaign in which the Eagles won just one road game the entire season. The and the squads also notched nine road victories en route to MAC West Division titles. RECORDS APLENTY IN SETBACK AT CENTRAL: It was an instant classic at the Rose Center, however, it was Eastern Michigan on the short side of the double-overtime decision at Central Michigan, Feb. 20. The contest, which featured 40 lead changes and 24 ties, saw the Eagles and Chippewas combine for 220 points to break the Mid-American Conference record for most combined points in a league contest. The previous standard of 214 points in a victory by Bowling Green over Kent State, Feb. 23, 1991, had stood for 19 seasons. It also marked the first time in EMU history both teams had scored more than 100 points, and it bested the 191 combined points between EMU (93) and BGSU (98) in another double overtime thriller, ironically exactly 11 years to the date, Feb. 20, 1999, at Anderson Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio. Defense for both teams was at a premium, with the teams exchanging scores nearly every trip down the court. Eastern Michigan finished the contest 37-of-77 from the field, including equaling the school record with 16 three-point field goals, for a 48.1 percent clip. HUNTLEY POURS IN 36 OFF THE PINE AT THE ROSE CENTER: Sydney Huntley scored a personalbest 36 points on 12-of-22 shooting in the double-overtime setback at Central Michigan, Feb. 20. The Cincinnati, Ohio native tied the school record with eight three pointers on the afternoon, as she at one point scored 17 consecutive points for the Eagles in the second half. Additionally, Huntley s 36 points are the most ever for an EMU player off the bench, and the total ranks tied for third most in the EMU single-game annals. The AnnMarie Gilbert File Hard-working. Compassionate. Dedicated. Just a few words that come to mind when talking about AnnMarie Gilbert. On May 15, 2007, Eastern Michigan University introduced Gilbert as the seventh head women s basketball coach in the history of the program. In her first season in Ypsilanti, Gilbert proved up to her billing. Eastern Michigan posted a overall record and gained a share of the Mid-American Conference West Division Championship with an 11-5 mark. With the division crown, Gilbert became just the fourth firstyear head coach in league history to guide her team to a MAC title. Additionally, her 17 wins was an EMU record for most victories by a first-year mentor and also ranks ninth best in conference history for a rookie coach. Gilbert made a statement in her first game, guiding the Eagles to a win over Temple Baptist College, Nov. 11, Her first conference victory occurred just a few months later, when EMU turned in a dominating victory over Northern Illinois University, Jan. 9, Year two was a rebuilding season for Gilbert and crew, as 77 percent of the minutes played came from underclassmen who had at least two more years of eligibility remaining. The third year of the Gilbert era looks to be even brighter with a core of returners and a nationally recognized recruiting class coming to town. This incoming class was ranked as the top in the Mid-American Conference and 59th nationally by Dan Olson s Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. A rising star in the collegiate coaching ranks, Gilbert possesses 18 years of collegiate coaching experience, including 10 seaons as a head coach. She also spent five years as an assistant coach at Michigan State University, where she helped the Spartans compile an impressive record. During her time in East Lansing, the Spartans made it to five consecutive NCAA tournaments and to the 2005 National Championship game. Prior to joining the Spartans, Gilbert spent the previous eight seasons ( ) as the head women s basketball coach of NCAA Division III Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. She is still the winningest coach in Oberlin women s basketball history as the Yeomen made six appearances in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) postseason tournament during her tenure. She began her coaching career at Oberlin as an assistant coach with the women s basketball team in and was an assistant men s basketball coach in , before assuming the women s basketball head coaching duties in At EMU Month-By-Month Ye a r No v. With an average of 20.2 points per game, the Detroit native is on pace to total 606 points this season and surpass Laurie Byrd s mark of 602 in 26 games during the season. Additionally, at her current pace, James total would come up just short of the all-time mark among sophomores in Mid-American Conference history. Ohio s Caroline Mast holds down the league s current standard of 635 points during the DIAL THREE FOR LONG DISTANCE: Sophomore Tavelyn James is quickly moving up the EMU record book, ranking eighth all-time with 125 three pointers made and fifth with 397 three-point field goals attempted. THREE POSTSEASON OPPORTUNITIES AWAIT: Should the Eagles fail to secure the NCAA Tournament bid or a berth in the Women s NIT, there is now a third option for postseason play with the inaugural Women s Basketball Invitational (WBI). The WBI is a 16-team, single elimination tournament divided into two regions with eight seeded teams in each. The event is being run by Sport Tours International, Inc. and will take place over two weeks with all games being played on campus sites. The first round matchups will take place March 17-18, with the championship game tentatively scheduled for March 27 or 28. Also, in the Women s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) expands by 16 teams to a 64-team field. The Postseason WNIT will celebrate its 13th year with the 2010 event. The tournament will continue to feature an automatic berth for each of the nation s 31 established conferences, in addition to now offering at-large berths to 33 teams. The 2010 Postseason WNIT will feature 32 first-round games, followed by 16 second-round games, eight third-round games, four quarterfinal games, two semifinal games, and the championship. DOUBLE VISION: In just 55 games during her brief career, sophomore Tavelyn James has reached double figures in points on 40 occasions. The Detroit native has scored 20 or more in 21 of those contests for a total of 951 points. This marks the third time in her career and the eighth time in school history that a women s basketball player has won the weekly honor. BLOCK YOU VERY MUCH: Since 1987 when the statistical category of blocks was added, swatting away shots has never been a strong point for the Eagles. However, that statement is changing for the squad, as EMU has erased the all-time mark of 106 swat-a-ways by the team with 112 this year. THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER: Three is the magic number when predicting the Eagles success this season. EMU is shooting 35.3 percent (128-of-363) from three-point range in its 19 wins, as opposed to 33.8 percent (46-of-136) in its seven losses. Having dropped five of its last 11 contests, EMU enters Saturday s contest looking to rekindle the rebounding magic that saw the squad jump out to a 12-2 mark to begin the season. In EMU s first 14 games, the team held an eight-rebound per game edge (45.4 to 37.3) as the Eagles out-scored opponents by nearly 18 points a game (75.1 to 57.6). However, since the Jan. 13 game at Toledo the statistics have dramatically changed. In the 12 games since, Eastern has been out-rebounded by nearly five caroms a game (37.7 to 42.9) and has out-scored the opposition by a margin of less than one point (70.5 to 69.7). NOT THE ONLY ROBBER: Cassie Schrock, now with 150 steals in her distinguished career, is not the only Eagle with a tendency to make steals. In fact, there are three current EMU players with 75-plus career steals. Sophomore Tavelyn James (100) and junior Sydney Huntley (87) also reached that plateau this season. De Ja Wills is also in reach with 47 swipes while Paige Reddit has 44 in her career. GILBERT GRABS CAREER WIN NUMBER 100: EMU Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert picked up career victory No. 100 Saturday, Feb. 6, in a victory over Kent State at the Convocation Center. Gilbert sports a career record in 11 seasons, including a mark in three seasons in Ypsilanti. She becomes the seventh active Mid-American Conference coach to reach 100 career victories. EAGLES VERSUS THE EAST DIVISION: The season is the fifth utilizing the current Mid- American Conference scheduling format for women s basketball. Each of the 12 schools opens league action with five divisional games, followed by six cross-divisional games and then five more divisional contests to close the regular season. Eastern Michigan has posted a record versus MAC East Division opponents since the campaign. JAMES HITS FOR 40 POINTS AT BUFFALO: Tavelyn James set the single-game standard for points with 40 in the Eagles victory over the University at Buffalo, Feb. 3. The Detroit native had set the record with 39 points earlier this season in the team s victory over Rochester College, Dec. 9, 2009, at the Convocation Center. With the prolific total, James became the first EMU women s basketball player to score 40 points in a game and just the seventh EMU student-athlete to do so. The last EMU basketball player to eclipse the 40-point plateau was men s basketball point guard Earl Boykins with 45 against Western Michigan University, Feb. 21, 1998, at Bowen Field House. In a span of two minutes midway through the second half, James scored 10 straight Eagle points, connecting on three consecutive baskets and going 3-of-3 from the free throw line. She had 32 points with more than 11 minutes remaining in the game and finished the contest 13-of- 22 from the field, including 5-of-11 from long distance and 9-of-11 from the line to give her 40 points, tying her for the 11th-highest single-game point total in the nation this season. AN EMPIRE STATE OF MIND: The Eagles have been dominant versus schools from the State of New York, posting a 14-game winning streak against the Empire State dating back to the campaign. Eastern Michigan s last loss to a team that hailed from the state was a setback to Buffalo, Jan. 15, EMU is 3-0 in games played inside the nation s 11th state with a win at Siena, Nov. 20, an victory at Niagara, Nov. 22, and a triumph at Buffalo, Feb. 3. The Eagles last loss on New York soil occurred Jan. 2, 2000, in a setback at Buffalo. IT S MILLER TIME: Freshman Chenise Miller has made an immediate impact on the Eagles and can be considered a strong candidate for the Mid-American Conference s All-Freshman team. Miller is the one of two freshmen to rank in the league s top 20 in blocks (sixth 1.12), offensive rebounds (14th 2.35) and rebounds (18th 5.7). Akron s Rachel Tecca cracks the list at 10th in offensive rebounds (2.63), 10th in rebounding (6.1) and 14th in field goal percentage (43.4%), while Miami s Kristen Olowinski earns a fourth place ranking with 1.44 rejections per game. TIED FOR THE BEST 19-GAME START IN SCHOOL HISTORY: The Eagles 15-4 start to the season tied the EMU squad for the best 19-game beginning of a season. ALLOWING 50 OR LESS: Eastern Michigan is 83-0 all time when allowing 50 points or less. Since the Green and White have accomplished the feat 38 times with 19 of those coming against Mid-American Conference foes. Mid-American Conference West Division Championships: , ,

7 Eastern Michigan University Women s Basketball Game Notes A THRILLER IN THE HOCKING VALLEY: Eastern Michigan s last two trips into Athens, Ohio have provided plenty of drama and excitement, and most importantly they have also resulted in victories. On Wednesday, Jan. 27, late-game heroics by Sydney Huntley proved to be the difference, as the Eagles rallied down the stretch to leave southeastern Ohio with a victory over the Bobcats. Down by as many as 10 points in the second half, Tavelyn James helped the Eagles claw back, as her three-pointer in the corner knotted the game at 53-all with under a minute to play in the game, forcing a Bobcat time out. After a key defensive stop following James strike from long distance, the Eagles took their first lead since the 14:14 mark in the first half, as Huntley connected from beyond the arc to make it a game with five seconds left on the clock. Following another Ohio timeout, the Eagles forced the Bobcats into their 22nd turnover of the game to secure the victory. Huntley s shot in the waning moments marked the first time since Dec. 4, 2004, EMU had connected on a game-winning shot with less than five seconds to play in regulation. The last time it occurred was in the Eagles upset of the University of Missouri, when Ryan Coleman connected on the second of a pair of free throws to break a 59-all tie with three seconds to play to seal the championship of the State Farm Tiger Classic in Columbia, Mo. FALCONS PROVE TO STILL BE A THORN IN THE EAGLES SIDE: Bowling Green proved to still be a thorn in Eastern Michigan s side, as the Falcons remained the only team in the MAC that Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert has yet to beat in her three-year tenure in Ypsilanti. Additionally, BG has handed EMU seven straight losses dating back to the campaign. In a battle of Mid-American Conference division leaders, the Orange and Brown led by as many as 25 points during the victory in front of a raucous crowd at Anderson Arena, Jan. 23. The Eagles gave up a season-high 83 points, and turned the ball over a season-worst 24 times en route to 29 BGSU points. JAMES EARNS HER FIRST PLAYER OF THE WEEK ACCOLADE: Sophomore Tavelyn James was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday, Jan. 18. It marks the first time she has won the award in her career. James had another prolific week scoring the basketball, averaging 29.5 points per game to go along with 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 3.0 assists and a 40.0 shooting clip from the field. From beyond the arch, the Detroit native was 9-of-25 for 36.0 percent. In a battle of unbeatens at Toledo, Jan. 13, James led the way with 30 points to go along with a season-best six steals. The Eagles rebounded with a victory over Northern Illinois, Jan. 16, James finished with 29 points on 10-of-18 shooting, while adding five rebounds. SURPASSING ALREADY: The Eagles have well surpassed their road-win total from the season. EMU s lone victory away from the Convocation Center last season came in the team s 13th road contest, a decision over Miami University at Millett Hall in Oxford, Ohio, Feb. 14, THOMAS CRASHING THE GLASS: Junior Kristin Thomas has been a rebounding machine for the Eagles during the campaign, hauling down a team-best 7.7 caroms per contest. The Winter Park, Fla. native grabbed eight rebounds in her EMU debut against Illinois-Chicago, Nov. 13, before notching 14 boards against Marygrove, Nov. 16. She also hauled down 15 caroms versus Missouri State, Nov. 29, and then a personal-best 16 rebounds at Western Michigan, Jan. 9. Thomas finally picked up her first career double-double with a 10-point 13-rebound performance at Toledo, Jan. 13. SEVENTH HEAVEN: The Eagles strung together seven consecutive victories from Dec. 5 until Jan. 9 for the squad s first multi-game winning streak since the campaign. That season the Green and White rolled off a pair of nine-game winning streaks. In total, the program has 12 winning streaks of five-or-more contests. During the steak, the Eagles won games by an average of more than 24 points (78.0 to 53.7) and out-rebounded opponents by 10 per game (47.6 to 37.6). Hot shooting was another key as Eastern shot 40.3 percent from the floor while the defense held the opposition to just 34.8 percent. DISHING BETTER THAN A SWEDISH CHEF: One of the reasons for the Eagles dramatic turnaround in is the ability to dish the rock, allowing for much better looks at the hoop. EMU is averaging 13.5 assists per game, up from 12.4 during the campaign. Junior Cassie Schrock leads the way with 150 assists in 26 games, shattering her mark of 94 dimes last season. With the better looks at the bucket, the Eagles shooting percentage has soared from 35.1 percent last season to 39.9 percent in The EMU Record Book Career Games Played t1. 8 Eastern Michigan University Women s Basketball Game Notes 8 DOUBLE DIGITS NO PROBLEM: The campaign has been one of dramatic runs and rallies for the Eagles, with EMU winning three consecutive games in which it trailed by 10-or-more points. The Green and White trailed North Dakota by 12 points in the first half before rebounding to win by 11, 76-65, Jan. 4. Despite again falling behind by 11 against Central Michigan, Jan. 6, and 10 points at Western Michigan, Jan. 9, Eastern still managed to turn both into victories. TERRIFIC 10: For just the second time in the program s 34-year history, the Eagles entered Mid-American Conference play with 10 victories under their belt. The squad also notched 10 non-conference wins before opening the MAC schedule, as the Green and White finished the year with a 23-8 mark and an appearance in the Postseason WNIT. Since the campaign, Eastern Michigan has captured 72 nonconference victories and nine seasons with at least six out-of-conference wins. HITTING THE CENTURY MARK INSIDE THE CONVOCATION CENTER: Eastern Michigan has racked up a solid home-court advantage inside the friendly confines of the Convocation Center since the doors opened during the campaign. The Green and White have won 69.1 percent of the contests played in the building, racking up a all-time mark. RECORDS ARE MEANT TO BE BROKEN: In the victory over Cleveland State, Dec. 29, EMU set a Convocation Center record with 62 team rebounds, out-rebounding the Vikings by 17 in the game. The Green and White broke the previous arena record of 61 set on Nov. 18, 2005, against Central Connecticut State University. The Eagles also set a record for most offensive rebounds at the Convocation Center with 29, while both teams combined for 107 rebounds, breaking the record of 104 set just last season against the University of Notre Dame. THE KIDS CAN PLAY: The average EMU women s basketball player stands 5-feet-10 inches tall and is 20 years and 91 days old. The youngest Eagle is India Hairston, who turns 18, Nov. 24, Kayla Vantil is the oldest Eagle having turning 22, Dec. 27, BACK ON TRACK: With EMU s victory over Cleveland State, the Eagles surpassed their entire win total from the season. The Green and White finished last season with an 8-21 mark. STOP, THIEF!: In the victory over USCAA foe Rochester, Dec. 9, EMU racked up 26 steals, which is tied for the second-best effort in team history. Two seasons ago versus NCCAA member Temple Baptist ( ), the Eagles stole the rock a record 29 times. EMU VERSUS THE MAC: This is EMU s 29th season competing in the Mid-American Conference. The Eagles hold a record against conference foes and have posted winning seasons in the MAC in eight of the last nine campaigns. EMU has had the most success against Northern Illinois, going 23-9, and the least versus Bowling Green, Western Michigan has been the Green and White s most frequent opponent with 67 meetings while Buffalo holds the distinction of the fewest conference games against the Eagles with 16. HITTING FROM LONG RANGE: EMU s women s basketball team has shown it can hit from long range and has for quite a while now. Eastern has made at least one three pointer in the last 241 games, dating back to Jan. 31, The last time the Eagles did not make one was Jan. 26, 2002, in a road victory over Central Michigan. ON THE SMALL SCREEN: EMU s entire home basketball schedule will be video streamed via Eagle All-Access exclusively on EMUEagles.com. Subscription packages are available for $5.95 for a single-game, $9.95 for a monthly package and $79.95 for the entire season. Most web casts feature a three-camera shoot for a quality viewing experience, as well as audio play-by-play from either Brian Nemerovski or Chad Bush. Former EMU Academic All-American Sarah VanMetre provides color commentary for a majority of games, with Greg Steiner or Dan Wyar from the Athletic Media Relations Office filling in on the rest of the home contests. JAMES NOTCHES SECOND SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HON- ORS: Sophomore guard Tavelyn James was named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week for the period ending Jan. 4. This marks the second time in her career and the seventh time in school history that a women s basketball player has won the weekly honor. RAINA SPENCER NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Redshirt sophomore Raina Spencer was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday, Dec. 28. It marks the first time she has won the award in her career. Spencer made the most of her EMU debut against Chicago State, Dec. 21, coming off the bench to notch 17 points, four rebounds, a steal and an assist in just 14 minutes of work. Despite a 716-day layoff, the Fordham University transfer was stellar a 5-of-6 from beyond the arch, including a perfect 4-for-4 in the final five-minute stretch, to help boost the EMU edge from just five points to as many as 21 en route to the victory. Spencer, who last played in a collegiate contest against Longwood University, Jan. 5, 2008, finished one point shy of her career best of 18 points versus American University, Dec. 9, JAMES NETS SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS: Eastern Michigan University sophomore guard Tavelyn James was named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week for the period ending Dec. 13. The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week s competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference s faculty athletic representatives. 108 TIES SCHOOL S RECORD FOR POINTS IN A GAME: EMU s 108 points against Rochester College, Dec. 9, equalled the school record for most points in a single game. The standard was originally set against Temple Baptist, Nov. 11, In addition, the Warriors 24 points are the second lowest amount of points allowed by an EMU squad in the 34-year history of the program. Other records either set or tied against Rochester were: most field goal attempts at the Convocation Center (82); most points scored (108); lowest opponent field goal percentage (.182); most points in a game by an Eastern player (James, 39); and made field goals in a game at the Convocation Center by a player (16). PITCHING THE SHUTOUT: Typically a term reserved more for EMU Baseball Head Coach Jay Alexander, but the Eagles pitched a shutout of their own versus Rochester, Dec. 9. The Warriors got on the board with a pair of free throw at the 18:30 mark, but did not pick up their first field goal until 11:33 to go in the stanza to make it Then Whitney Newsom hit a jumper for RC s last score of the first half with 1:41 to play, but it was not until the 11:47 mark of the second half before the Warriors notched another point. The 10:54 scoring drought is the longest the Eagles held an opponent scoreless this season. Mid-American Conference West Division Championships: , ,

9 Eastern Michigan University Women s Basketball Game Notes EDUCATION DAY PROVIDES A WINNING ATMOSPHERE: It may not have been the crowd noise that affected Rochester, but it certainly did not hurt. There were 2,039 screaming fans, mostly elementary students representing 16 local schools, on hand for the Eagles victory. This was the fifth year EMU has held Education Day, but only the third time it had been held in conjunction with a women s basketball game. The crowd was the fourth largest to witness an EMU women s basketball game at the Convocation Center, and the largest since a record 5,423 fans watched the Eagles battle Western Michigan University, Feb. 12, SCHROCK NAMED MAC SCHOLAR ATHLETE: Junior guard Cassie Schrock was named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week for the period ending Nov. 29. This marks the first time in her career and the fifth time in school history that a women s basketball player has won the weekly honor. EMU senior wrestler Chris Jenkins earned this week s Male co-scholar Athlete of the Week award. Schrock, who holds a 3.07 GPA as a special education major, led the Eagles to a 1-1 mark against Temple University and Missouri State University, averaging 20.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and four assists in the two contests. Against the Owls, Schrock finished just shy of a double-double, going for 15 points and grabbing nine boards for the Eagles. At home against MSU, Nov. 29, Schrock went for 26 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals in EMU s victory over the Lady Bears. CRUISING AT 90: EMU s 93-point performance against Missouri State University, Nov. 29, was the most by an EMU squad since a 92-point output against Madonna University, Nov. 22, It is also the most points scored against a Division I team since the season, when the Green and White laid 90 points on Morehead State University, Nov. 18. The Eagles have won 15 of their last 16 games dating back to the campaign when hitting the 90-point plateau. SCHROCK RECORDS THE THIRD TRIPLE-DOUBLE IN EMU HISTORY: Junior Cassie Schrock became just the third player in EMU women s basketball history to record a triple-double as the Eagles defeated Marygrove, 87-45, Nov. 16. Schrock posted 11 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists, joining All-Americans Stephanie Smiley and Ryan Coleman as the only women to accomplish the feat in the 34-year history of the program. Smiley turned in her triple-double Jan. 26, 2000, against Ohio University with 11 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists. Coleman notched 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a victory over Western Michigan University, Feb. 12, IT S RAINING THREES!: Sophomore guard Tavelyn James tied the EMU single-game record with eight three pointers in the victory at Siena College, Nov. 20. The eight treys equal the mark of Marion Crandall, who knocked down eight in a Senior Day contest against Ball State University, Feb. 21, 2004, at the Convocation Center. PRESEASON PROGNOSTICATIONS: The Eastern Michigan University women s basketball team was picked to finish fifth in the West Division according to the Mid American Conference preseason poll by the voting members of the MAC News Media Association. The announcement was made in Cleveland, Ohio, Wednesday, Oct. 28, as part of the conference s Women s Basketball Media Day. The University of Toledo was picked to win the West Division with 18 first-place votes. Ball State University is expected to finish second with 14 first-place votes and Northern Illinois University third with four votes. Rounding out the West Division were Central Michigan University, EMU and Western Michigan University. Bowling Green State University was tabbed as the preseason favorite in the East with 22 first-place votes. The Falcons were also selected to win the 2010 MAC Women s Basketball Tournament, March 6-13, earning 16 votes. EMU ADDS TWO FOR CAMPAIGN: Eastern Michigan University women s basketball Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert announced that two student-athletes have committed to the Eagles in the fall early signing period Tuesday, Nov. 24. Olivia Fouty (Toledo, Ohio-Sylvania Northview) and Natachia Watkins (South Euclid, Ohio-Brush) will join EMU for the season. Fouty, a 5-foot-10 forward, is a three-year starter for the Wildcats and has won multiple local and regional awards. In three seasons at Northview she has scored 859 points, including averaging 15.1 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. Voted the team s MVP as both a sophomore and a junior, Fouty was a 2008 and 2009 Division I All-Ohio honorable mention selection along with earning second-team honors from both the Associated Press and the Toledo Blade. She also picked up first-team All-Northern Lakes League and All-District VII accolades. As a freshman, Fouty broke onto the scene by being named second team All-Conference, as well as achieving honorable mention status in the district and by the Associated Press. Watkins, a 5-foor-10 guard, averaged 16.9 points, 12.1 rebounds, 4.6 steals, 3.8 assists and 3.1 blocks per game as a junior last season at Brush High School in Lyndhurst, Ohio. For her efforts, she was named the team s MVP along with being named All-Conference and All-State. That performance followed on the heels of a sophomore campaign that only scratched the surface of her potential, when she averaged a double-double with 17.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4.2 steals, 3.3 blocks and 2.1 assists per game. As a freshman, Watkins averaged 7.2 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.3 steals per game. WELCOME TO THE BLOCK PARTY: Eastern Michigan s size proved a difference maker against Marygove in the victory, Nov. 16. The Green and White racked up eight blocks and 56 rebounds en route to the 42- point decision. Paige Redditt rejected four Mustangs shots, while Chenise Miller and Kristin Thomas added a pair of blocks to their credit. The eight team blocks was the most by an EMU squad since a 10-block performance against the University of Akron, Jan. 7, BEING PICKED FIFTH MIGHT NOT BE SO BAD: Being picked fifth in the preseason Mid-American Conference poll may not be that bad if you look at it from a historical perspective. The Eagles have been picked to finish fifth on four other occasions since the turn of the century, and in all but one of those years they have posted a better finish than the odds-makers projected. In fact, the Eagles were picked to come in fifth in the West Division was That season turned out to be a storybook campaign that featured the squad posting a 22-8 (12-4 MAC) record en route to the program s first division title, tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. Other times EMU has been picked fifth were in and , when the Green and White would actually finish fourth both seasons with 10-6 and 9-7 league records, respectively. EMU RELEASES BASKETBALL BROADCAST SCHEDULE: The Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics announced the school s most comprehensive basketball broadcast schedule Tuesday morning, Oct. 27. The productions are a combined effort between the EMU Athletic Media Relations Office, WEMU-FM, Nelligan Sports Marketing and Internet Consulting Services, Inc.
