P a g e 7 Welcome to the NBA Workout! How To Use This Book After studying hundreds of hours of game tape (okay - watching lots of NBA games on TV) we've pulled together a collection of 97 scoring drills based on the go-to moves of the league's best players. Inside this resource, you'll find drills inspired by: Kobe Bryant Tony Parker Blake Griffin Andrew Bynum Dwight Howard Carmelo Anthony Dwyane Wade Russell Westbrook Chris Paul Chris Bosh Kevin Durant Lebron James Derrick Rose Luol Deng Andre Iguodala Steve Nash There's a fantastic mix of drills for breaking your man down off the dribble, scoring off the ball, pick and roll plays, shooting drills and post-up drills. Whether you're a slasher, a shooter, or a banger, you'll find something in this book to improve your game. Of course, we don't recommend trying to learn every drill in this book. Start with 5-7 moves that complement your existing game and fit well within the scoring opportunities you'll see inside your team's offense. Then, over time, use the drills to develop new moves and become a more versatile scorer. Now get to it!

P a g e 8 Kobe Bryant - Run Screen Series Kobe starts at the block and receives a rub screen from Bynum or Gasol. He then receives the ball at the free throw line to score. Drill: Pin the chair (#) and hold for three seconds. Then spin into alley oop layup or dunk (depending on ability). Make 20 on each side of the rim.

P a g e 28 Dwight Howard - Putback Dunks One of Howard's specialties is rebounds. Especially put back dunks. Drill: Throw the ball off the backboard and either put back dunk the ball or tip it back in while in the air for the rebound. Make 40 on each side of the rim.

P a g e 54 Chris Paul - Attack "Ice" To ice the screen is when a defender completely denies the ball handler the chance to use the screen in a pick and roll. CP3 is good at reading this and taking advantage of the defender s bad positioning. He will use an in/out to sell that he is going to use the screen and attacks the elbow. Drill: Go at screen (cone) and quickly fake going through it with in/out and get to elbow for pull up jump shot. Make 20 going in each direction.

He then transitions to a quick between the legs move that sells the go but pulls up into jump shot (freeze pull up). Durant uses two steps out of the between the legs move to sell the go. Drill: Use three change of directions stationary into a quick between the legs and freeze pull up. Make 15 going towards the baseline and 15 towards the elbow on both sides of the court.

P a g e 61 Kevin Durant - Dribble Drag to Crossover Durant's ability to change directions quickly is one of the best in the league. He sometimes likes to take a couple of dribble drags towards the top of the key. As soon as he gets a shift from the defender, he quickly crosses back over and drives the baseline. Drill: Use same move to make 20 makes with runners on both sides of the court.

P a g e 62 Kevin Durant - Post Up (Mid-Post) By taking advantage of his 6'9" frame, KD will post up smaller defenders near the midpost. This makes him dangerous because he can now use a post game but is far away enough to square up and attack. Most common moves: Pound dribble to help line for turnaround jump shot Drop spin to baseline to attack rim One dribble towards help line and then quick spin back to baseline Reverse pivot to sweep and attack baseline Drill: Post up in mid-post area and make 25 with all scoring moves. 64 P a g e 64 Kevin Durant Counter When the defense over plays the down screen, KD will back door cut for the alley oop.

P a g e 65 Kevin Durant - Early Offense Duck In To create quick offense, KD will duck in to the help line early in offense for a quick turnaround and score. Drill: Make 25 from duck in position diving to the paint from both sides of the court.

P a g e 66 Kevin Durant - Hesitation on Drive to Attack KD's ball handling abilities allow him to attack defenders frequently. After beating the initial defender, KD will hesitate at the free throw line to assess the help defenders reactions. From there, he will either attack the basket, shoot a runner in the lane, or make a pull up jump shot. Drill: Attack cone with a change of direction and get to the free throw line. Hesitate and make 15 layups, runners, and jump shots. Do on both sides of the court.

P a g e 67 Kevin Durant - Cross Screen to Pick & Roll KD receives a screen flashing from the opposite block to catch on the wing. From there, he receives a ball screen. Drill: Go through the play to make 25 jump shots from the nail.

P a g e 68 Kevin Durant - Pick and Pop Oklahoma uses a play to get KD the ball while opening up the ball handler. KD screens the ball with a sideline screen and pops to the wing. His shooting range gives him the option to catch and shoot or drive to the basket Drill: Screen the chair (#), and pop for 15 makes with catch and shoot. Also make 15 one dribble jump shots with same drill. Do on both sides of the court.

P a g e 69 Kevin Durant - Attack Help Defender KD receives a lot of ball screens...as any good scorer should. He likes to take advantage of help defenders by using his length to attack them. Drill: Set up screen and attack chair (#) to score 15 times in help attack, runner in the lane, and pull up jump shot at the nail. Do to both sides.

P a g e 70 Lebron James - Attack Moves Lebron has developed an array of moves from the block after flashing across the paint. Most finishes are at the basket with a dunk or power layup. Triple Threat Moves: Sweep baseline Jab and attack baseline Jab and shoot Jab to back to basket and use same moves Drill: Make 20 of each move on both blocks.

P a g e 71 Lebron James - Down Screen to Pro Cut Lebron will cut across the free throw line to receive the ball from a down screen. He will typically sweep to baseline attack off the catch. Because of how the defense usually plays him, he will finish with a runner or get fouled. Drill: Cut across the free throw line to receive into a sweep and go. Make 20 one dribble pull jump shots on both sides of the court.

P a g e 72 Lebron James - Double Change to Freeze Pull Up Lebron will make 2 nonchalant between the legs dribbles to rock defense to sleep. He will then quickly pull up and shoot or take one dribble and shoot. Drill: Make 20 from Lebron's move.

P a g e 73 Lebron James - Hesitation to One Dribble Step Back Lebron will shoot the ball through his legs and bring it back through the same leg. He then hesitates to read the defense. He will then go to either side with a one dribble step back jump shot. Drill: Make 20 step back jump shots going in both directions.

P a g e 74 Lebron James - One Dribble Angle Lebron will take a separation dribble in a 45-degree angle to get open for a shot. Drill: Make 25 shots going in both directions.

P a g e 75 Lebron James - Movement to Post Up Lebron will use his size to back down into post up with pound dribble and then go into his move. Moves: turnaround jump shot, spin to layup or dunk, up and under Drill: Back down Coach to mid-post and make 20 using each move on both sides of the court.

P a g e 76 Lebron James - Freeze Pull Up Three-Point Lebron will take one quick dribble towards the defense and then shoot the ball between his legs. The between the legs move is to get the defense shifting in that direction like a jab step in triple threat. Lebron quickly shoots off the between the legs dribble. Drill: Make 30 of the shot.

P a g e 77 Derrick Rose - Lane Line Runners Defenses collapse quickly on Rose's drives because of his ability to score in the paint. Because of this he has become good at using runners along the lane line. Drill: Player attacks cones with any of D Rose's moves and finishes with runner along lane line. Make 30 on both sides of basket.

P a g e 78 Derrick Rose - Turndown Screens Because of Rose's speed, defenders have to sometimes commit before the move happens. Especially in pick and roll situations. Because of this, Rose has become great at setting up defenders on the screen and then turning it down. Moves: one dribble to screen-spin move-attack, crossover-hesitation-crossover backattack, cross step-spin back-attack Drill: Use the different set up moves to make 20 jump shots on each side.

P a g e 79 Derrick Rose - Sideline Inbound The sideline inbound starts with a down screen to get D Rose open. After the catch, Rose goes right into a pick and roll. Drill: Flash to catch starting at block. Go right into pick and roll. Make 20 jump shots at the nail on both sides of the court.

P a g e 80 Derrick Rose - High Post Pitch D Rose passes to high post and relocates for a catch and shoot or one dribble jump shot. Drill: Player passes to coach and moves through process of the pitch. Make 15 catch and shoot jump shots and 15 one dribble jump shots on both sides of the court.

P a g e 81 Derrick Rose - Angles of Attack D Rose likes to attack in the tunnel and from the elbow angle. Once he has the isolation, he will use multiple moves to go by defender. In & out-crossover Hesitation-one dribble step back Hesitation-in & out-drive Walk ball through the legs-hesitation-drive Between the legs-hesitation-crossover-drive

P a g e 82 Derrick Rose - Changing Area of Attacks Rose might start at one elbow but then shifts to the other elbow to start his isolation attack. He uses the same moves from the isolation attack series. Drill: Start on one side of the court and shift to the other. Use one of Rose's isolation moves to attack and make 20 runners on the lane line. Execute on both sides of the court.
