MU Owns Extended Home Court Winning Streak Marquette is currently in possession of a 27-game winning streak (second-longest active streak in the nation) at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. After falling to Vanderbilt on Dec. 29, 2011, MU collected a perfect 9-0 record at home in BIG EAST play (15-1 overall) in en route to a best-ever second-place finish (14-4) in the league. The Golden Eagles finished 16-0 at home in and completed their second-straight season of league play undefeated with a win over Notre Dame en route to a share of the league s regular season title. Home Streaks Team South Dakota St. 30 Marquette 27 Belmont 20 Missouri 20 Louisiana Tech 19 Stephen F. Austin 19 courtesy Stats, Inc. (through 11/13) In just over 24 seasons of play at the BMO Harris Bradley Center, Marquette owns an impressive overall record of (.806) and a (.809) mark in BIG EAST action. Marquette claimed an amazing 81-straight home games from for the longest run in school history and is tied for the fifth-longest in NCAA history. Balanced Scoring Leads To Offensive Outburst Marquette had eight players (most since 1990) reach double figures in points in the win over Grambling State on Tuesday night, and the result was a near-record point total. MU s 114 points were the most the squad has scored since posting a victory over Milwaukee on Jan. 14, In that game, Dean Meminger led all scorers with 31 points and George Thompson chipped in 24. The 118 points remain the program s alltime single-game record. The team has collected 106 three times since then, most recent of which was a Nov. 17, 2008 win over Chicago State in Buzz Williams second game as head coach of the Golden Eagles. MU Not Taking Advantage Of Charity In Through the first two games this season, Marquette is averaging 42 trips to the charity stripe. Unfortunately for MU, the team has connected on just 61.9 percent (52-of-84) of its opportunities. Free throw shooting has always been a strong aspect of the team under head coach Buzz Williams. The Golden Eagles converted on 73.0 percent of their opportunities in to rank second in the BIG EAST Conference. In Williams five-year tenure, MU has only finished below 72.0 percent from the line for a season on one occasion ( ). Taylor, Jr. Collects First Career Double-Double Sophomore forward Steve Taylor, Jr., finished with career highs in both points and rebounds in the win over Grambling St., which resulted in his first career double-double. Taylor, Jr., chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds in just 22 minutes of action, finishing 7-of-10 from the floor. He also dished out four assists. Of his 11 boards, five came at the offensive end and continued a trend he established in Of his 73 total rebounds during his freshman campaign, 36 came at the offensive end. Newcomers Display Ability To Contribute After mixed results in the season opener against Southern, Marquette s highly-rated recruiting class gave Golden Eagle fans a glimpse into the group s potential against Grambling St. Freshmen Deonte Burton, John Dawson and Jajuan Johnson all came off the bench and contributed 28 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists as a group. The newcomers are awaiting the addition of classmate Duane Wilson, who has yet to see game action while recovering from a stress fracture suffered during preseason workouts.

The Golden Eagles shot a school-record 53 free throws in the victory, netting 52.4 (33-of-63) of the team s total points from the charity stripe. The total surpassed the previous record of 50 attempts, set against Savannah State on Nov. 21, 2003 in a MU win. MU netted just 13 field goals last Friday night, with senior Davante Gardner and junior Todd Mayo accounting for 10 of the baskets. Marquette s 53 free throw chances nearly matched the total field goal opportunities (59) collected by Southern. Of the 11 Marquette players to see action, eight made at least one trip to the charity stripe. Gardner led the parade, finishing 15-of-20 on the night to post personal bests in both attempts and makes in a single game. Starting Lineup Features Familiar Names Marquette s starting lineup in the first two games featured five players very familiar to Golden Eagle fans, but the combination was one short on experience in terms of starting assignments. Of the starters, only senior center Chris Otule was penciled into the opening introductions in the team s final outing of Senior guard Jake Thomas and sophomore forward Steve Taylor, Jr., made their respective first career starts against Southern and junior Derrick Wilson and senior Jamil Wilson entered the year with 23 starting assignments (15 were by J. Wilson in ) as a duo. Bench Picking Up Where It Left Off In Courtesy of Davante Gardner and Jamil Wilson, the Golden Eagles featured one of the most productive bench corps in all of NCAA Division I in That trend has continued through the first two games this year. Four players reached double figures in points in the win over Grambling St. and the reserves are currently contributing 53.5 points and 21.0 rebounds per game while shooting 47.2 percent from the floor as a group. Kansas tops the list with 24-straight NCAA s, followed by Duke (18), Michigan State (16), Gonzaga (15), Wisconsin (15) and Marquette (8). Florida, Ohio State) to advance to at least the regional semifinal in each of the past three campaigns. In the eight campaigns since MU started play in the conference, the Golden Eagles are the lone team to finish.500-or-better in BIG EAST play each of those seasons and also the lone program to advance to at least the conference tournament quarterfinals each year.

MU received five first-place votes (74 total) and finished just ahead of Georgetown (70) and Creighton (61). The Golden Eagles claimed a share of the BIG EAST regular season title in thanks in large part to the efforts of forwards Davante Gardner and Jamil Wilson. Wilson was tabbed to the honorable mention squad after posting season averages of 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per outing in Marquette has had at least one player garner all-league accolades at the conclusion of the season every year since the program began conference affiliation in Williams Consistent Success Has Led To Impressive Tenure Sixth-year head coach Buzz Williams has led Marquette to an impressive run of success since taking over the reigns from Tom Crean prior to the campaign and as a result the Golden Eagles are ranked among the nation s top performers during his tenure. Under Williams tutelage, MU has posted an overall record of , including a remarkable mark in the ultra-competitive BIG EAST Conference. Since , Williams has helped guide the Golden Eagles to more league and NCAA tournament victories (eight) than any other BIG EAST coach. The 60 conference wins are seventh-most nationally amongst power conferences and the eight NCAA decisions rank 10th in NCAA Division I. The team s success has also allowed the program to maintain its position as one of the top drawing programs in all of collegiate basketball. Led by one of the nation s largest student sections (4,000), Marquette has ranked in the top-15 in attendance each season since

Wilson Taylor, Jr. Non-Conference Schedule Set To Challenge MU Marquette s non-conference schedule has been designed in recent seasons to prepare the program for the rigors of BIG EAST Conference play and the campaign is no different. MU s non-league slate includes four NCAA tournament squads (Southern, Ohio State, Wisconsin and New Mexico) from Three of those programs are ranked in the preseason top-25. The Golden Eagles will play Ohio State (10/9) at the BMO Harris Bradley Center, Wisconsin (20/19) on the road and New Mexico (22/21) in Las Vegas. The 2013 DIRECTV Wooden Legacy also features a quality field and could provide matchups with Miami (MU defeated the Hurricanes in 2013 Sweet 16), Arizona State and Creighton. Marquette already plays Arizona State on the road on Nov. 25 and will face Creighton twice in BIG EAST action. Is Key To Victory Field Goal Percentage? Head coach Buzz Williams has stressed defense since he took over the reigns of the program and that focus, along with offensive efficiency, has played a key role in the team s success during his tenure. Dating back to the start of , the Golden Eagles are when finishing the game with a field goal percentage even-or-better than their opponents. Since , MU has finished 50 percent-or-better from the field on 57 occasions and owns a 54-3 record (losses at Villanova in , vs. Washington in , at Vanderbilt in ) in those outings. The team s defensive effort has been just as important. Marquette is 43-5 (19-1 in ) under Buzz Williams when holding opponents under 60 points for the game. Otule Returns For Sixth Season Senior center Chris Otule is back for his sixth season with the Golden Eagles after receiving a medical hardship waiver from the NCAA following the campaign. The 6-11, 265-pounder has seen three previous seasons cut short by injury. He played in just nine games in after breaking his left foot and saw action in three outings in after suffering the same injury to his right foot. Otule played in 37 games in , but saw his campaign end after just eight games when he injured his left knee (ACL) in the opening minutes against Washington. The Richmond, Texas, native started each of the team s 35 outings in and posted averages of 5.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in 17.7 minutes per contest. He led the team in both field goal percentage (.634) and blocked shots (36). Otule has appeared in 93 career outings and owns 80 starting assignments. He currently ranks fifth all-time in career blocked shots (116). ASSISTS: D. Wilson J. Along with the valuable playing time, the versatility of the departed players should also be recognized. Blue led the roster in scoring (14.8 ppg.), Cadougan was tops in assists (3.8 apg.) and Lockett finished first in rebounds (5.1 rpg.) from his guard position. Blue, Cadougan and Lockett contributed an average of 91.3 minutes per night in BIG EAST Conference play, which translates to 45.7 percent of the available total.

Because of the values and work ethic contained within that philosophy, the Golden Eagles were able to add "Elite Eight" and "Conference Champions" in as two-word extensions to the squad's impressive list of accomplishments during his tenure. Williams has guided Marquette to five-straight NCAA tournament appearances (eight overall for Marquette), including the program's first participation in the regional finals since Continuing the University's proud tradition of success on the court, MU has remained a fixture in the national rankings, claimed wins over multiple nationally ranked teams and been extremely competitive in the BIG EAST Conference (28 wins the last two years combined). Player development continues to be a critical component of the program's foundation, best illustrated by six players earning a spot on a National Basketball Association (NBA) roster during Williams' tenure. Four of those players (two first-round picks) were selected in the NBA Draft, including a pair of Golden Eagles in The team's success since Williams assumed the reigns at MU in 2008, helped him earn an invitation by USA Basketball to serve as a court coach for the Men's U19 World Championship Team training camp in June of The opportunity is the first for Williams on the international level. Off the court, Williams and his staff assembled a consensus top-25 recruiting class for the third time during his tenure, including a group rated as high as No. 1 in the country by HoopScoopOnline.com ( ). The program's 2013 class, which features a trio of top-100 prospects, has been rated a consensus top-15 collection by national media experts. The program's community service efforts have also reached new heights under Williams, highlighted by "Buzz's Bunch." This group, founded by Williams, focuses on providing opportunities for special needs children to attend games and summer camps. The Golden Eagles have also continued and strengthened their long-standing relationships with the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. The Golden Eagles posted a 26-9 overall record in , highlighted by the BIG EAST Conference regular season title and a trip to the Elite Eight in Washington, D.C. MU was 14-4 in league action and concluded the year undefeated at home in all games, which helped the squad to its first-ever BIG EAST championship (14-4 for second-straight year). Marquette concluded the campaign ranked among the nation's top-20 programs and both Vander Blue (second team) and Davante Gardner (honorable mention) were named all-league. Gardner was also voted the BIG EAST Sixth Man of the Year and senior Junior Cadougan was tabbed recipient of the BIG EAST Sportsmanship Award. MU's 27 victories in were the second-most in program history and included a 14-4 mark in BIG EAST Conference action, which led to a second-place finish. The team made back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances for the first time in 35 years and was undefeated at home in conference action. The Golden Eagles claimed the 2011 Paradise Jam championship and finished the year ranked in the top-10 nationally. Senior forward Jae Crowder was tabbed BIG EAST Conference Player of the Year and he also garnered All- America accolades along with teammate Darius Johnson- Odom. Marquette claimed 22 victories in , including a road victory at eventual national champion Connecticut and a quarterfinal appearance in the league tourney, en route to being tabbed a No. 11 seed in the NCAA's. The Golden Eagles posted upset wins over No. 6 seed Xavier and No. 3 seed Syracuse to claim a spot in the round of 16, which marked the furthest the team had advanced since Senior forward Jimmy Butler garnered all-conference accolades for the second-straight year and junior guard Darius Johnson-Odom earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team. MU also concluded the year ranked nationally in the top-25 poll thanks to its NCAA run. The team's character was tested from start to finish in , beginning with low preseason expectations from national pundits and concluding with a heartbreaking postseason loss. No team in the nation played in more one-possession games than MU, but that didn't stop the squad from collecting the program's fifth-straight NCAA Championship appearance and 20-win season. Marquette finished overall, including an 11-7 mark in the BIG EAST Conference, which was good enough for fifth-place in the 16-team league. Lazar Hayward (Second Team All-BIG EAST) finished second all-time in scoring at MU and four of the program's top-10 all-time scorers have graduated within the past four seasons. Junior forward Jimmy Butler was one of the most improved players in the country and as a result was tabbed honorable mention all-league. Williams directed MU to a overall record in , which included a school-record 12 BIG EAST victories. The Golden Eagles advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship and were ranked among the nation's top-25 teams the entire campaign. A pair of players, Jerel McNeal and Wesley Matthews, claimed all-league accolades and McNeal also earned All-America honors. In , Williams served as an assistant coach with the Golden Eagles in his first season at Marquette.
