6 Lawlor Events Center INTRO TEAM INFO PLAYERS COACHES & STAFF Completed in 193, Lawlor Events Center, located on the University of Nevada campus, has been home to Wolf Pack basketball, men s since its inception and women s since The arena seats 11,536 in an oval configuration with every spectator enjoying a center-court line of sight. The seating capacity includes 60 seats mounted on the main floor, bringing fans nearly courtside on all four sides. Since the season several upgrades were made to the arena. A new floor and scoreboard were installed. A major renovation to the locker room was completed. Named after Nevada s legendary coach and athletic director Glenn Jake Lawlor, Lawlor Events Center was made possible by a grant approved by the Nevada State Legislature in Ground was originally broken in October 191, and the construction project was completed on schedule for the grand opening on Nov. 4, 193. Originally built at a cost of $26 million, Lawlor Events Center has undergone periodic modifications and improvements. During the season, Lawlor Events Center unveiled a state-of-the-art electronic imaging scoreboard that allows fans to see highlights before each game, player pictures and stats, and includes two statistics boards at each end of the floor. At the start of the season, in a never-ending effort to consistently modify the facility, the teams played on a new floor. The arena s capacity and the efforts taken to improve the facility made Lawlor the home of the Big West Conference men s and women s basketball tournaments from It didn t take the WAC long to tab Nevada for yet another championship tournament coming to Reno in 2005 and The WAC Tournaments returned to Lawlor Events Center in 2009 and The NBA has also chosen Lawlor to host exhibition games. So far, the Sacramento Kings, Utah Jazz, Golden State Warriors, Seattle SuperSonics and the New Orleans Hornets have all played at Lawlor. In addition to the NBA, the Harlem Globetrotters have also played in the Pack s den. Lawlor Events Center, however, is far from just a basketball arena. The facility has served as host to concerts and events throughout its history. Lawlor has been host to such sporting events as the Professional Bull Riding Association s Bull-Nanza and concerts such as Fleetwood Mac, Cher, Bette Midler, Metallica, Prince, Yellowcard and Hilary Duff. As a concert facility, Lawlor is capable of seating 12,000 spectators, and the arena can be changed in configuration or reduced in size to accommodate smaller acts or to provide a more intimate theater setting. Also utilized extensively for conventions and meetings, Lawlor s main floor provides accommodations for large convention exhibits and can be used for large group gatherings. The arena s meeting and convention complex, which was upgraded in July of 2002, includes a large foyer for receptions and registration for meetings and conventions. Eight meeting/ banquet rooms provide nearly 10,000 square feet of space, which can be easily divided into smaller rooms with fully-movable partitions and service access to all areas. 11 NEVADA MENʼS BASKETBALL MEDIA GUIDE SEASON PREVIEW

12 Season Preview INTRO TEAM INFO PLAYERS STATISTICS RECORD BOOK COACHES & STAFF HISTORY 12 review After an incredible first season for head coach Eric Musselman, the prospects for year two are even brighter. Musselman inherited a team that went 9-22 and with primarily the same roster went and 10- in Mountain West play to finish tied for fourth. The Pack put together a most impressive postseason run, becoming the first Nevada basketball team and MW team to win a postseason tournament with 2-1 finals series win over Morehead State. A win over New Mexico in the MW Championship was also a first in four seasons in the league. Nevada then won three consecutive home CBI contests to advance to the finals. After a loss at MSU the Pack won the next two games, including game three 5-2 in overtime to capture the title. Senior Tyron Criswell was named the MVP. Nevada played a school record 3 games and played in the month of April for the first time. A successful season leads to honors and the Pack had their share. Musselman was named the MW Coach of the Year by Bleacher Report. Senior Marqueze Coleman was named the MW second team by the coaches and media along with earning second team alldistrict 17 honors. Coleman also became the 25th player in school history to score 1,000 points. The MW Media selected Criswell as their Sixth Man of the Year. Freshman Cameron Oliver earned multiple honors in his first season; MW coaches third team and all-defensive team, MW media second team and Freshman of the Year and All-MW Tournament team honors. Preview In coach Musselman s positionless basketball, the majority of the players have the ability to produce at numerous positions on the court. That will be even more evident this season as just five players who saw action a year ago are back, four of which are starters. The team has more versatility and depth than last season. The Mountain West media picked the Pack to finish second in the preseason poll. A year ago Nevada was predicted to finish ninth and ended the year tied for fourth with a 10- record. backcourt Two veterans return in the backcourt but several talented newcomers will join senior D.J. Fenner and sophomore Lindsey Drew. The newcomers include Marcus Marshall, Devearl Ramsey, Josh Hall, Charlie Tooley and Collin Weaver. David Cunningham, a walk-on from last season, returns for his sophomore season. Fenner enters his fourth season at Nevada and should become the 26th player in school history to score 1,000 points as he needs just 126 to reach the milestone. He had his most productive season last year finishing second on the team averaging 13.7 points per game and grabbing 4.6 rebounds per game. His numbers were career bests in almost every category appearing in all 3 games and starting 36. In his freshman season Drew earned a starting spot, seeing time in 37 games and starting 36. The Pack s top defender usually drew the opponents top perimeter scorer. He set the Pack freshman mark with 56 steals to go along with his 5.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. A senior, Marshall sat out last season after transferring from Missouri State where he averaged 19.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 32.6 minutes his junior season. He was a preseason Missouri Valley Conference selection prior to his junior campaign. In 2013 he was named the MVC Freshman of the Year along with being selected to the MVC All-Newcomer and All-Freshman teams. Freshman Devearl Ramsey, from Sierra Canyon High School, was ranked as four-star recruit. Ramsey played on Team USA s 2013 U16 and 2014 U17 gold medal winning teams. In his senior year, he averaged 14 points, 3. rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.3 steals per game. With his speed, look for the Pack to play even faster offensively when he is on the court and he will hound you with his defensive tenacity. Another one of the members of the highly ranked Nevada recruiting class is 6-6 Josh Hall, a four-star recruit according to some college recruiting websites. Hall played his senior year at Geneses Academy in Lynchburg, Va. A versatile athlete, he could see time at either guard or forward spots. Cunningham saw action in 14 games last season after earning a roster spot at an open tryout. He totaled five points and three rebounds in 25 minutes on the court. Tooley and Weaver are both walk-ons that will be seeking time in their first season at Nevada. Tooley, a freshman, averaged 16.4 points, 5.5 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game his senior year at Granite Bay High School (Calif.). A good outside shooter, he will battle for time at point guard. Another shooter Weaver transfers from Iowa Western. The junior from Glendale, Ariz. scored 9.5 points per game last season. He started his collegiate career at Oakland University in Michigan before transferring to Iowa Western. frontcourt The Pack returns two starters in the frontcourt and welcomes a pair of talented transfers that redshirted last season. Sophomore Cameron Oliver returns along with junior Elijah Foster. The duo combined to start 65 games last season. Transfers Leland King II and Jordan Caroline practiced with the team last season. Reno native John Carlson joined the team late last season and will be eligible to play when conference play gets underway. Reno High School walk-on David Kyle gives the Pack two local players on the roster. The 6- Oliver had one of the best freshman seasons in Wolf Pack history nearly averaging a double-double with 13.4 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. The Sacramento native was named to the preseason team. He joined Deonte Burton, who was selected to the team as the only players in school history named to the preseason team in five seasons in the conference. Oliver set the school record with 99 blocks which is also a MW freshman record. His 24 rebounds in the home win over Fresno State set the conference record. He was named to the All-MW 3rd team & All-MW Defensive team by the conference coaches. The MW media selected him as Freshman of the Year and to their second team. He was the only player named to the All-MW Tournament team that did not play in the finals. Foster started 32 games and averaged 2. points and 3.7 rebounds in 16.2 minutes per game. Key to earning a starting spot was shedding nearly 30 pounds between his freshman and sophomore seasons to improve his conditioning. In the MW quarterfinal win over New Mexico he grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds. The 6-7 King transferred to Nevada from Brown where he averaged 14.6 points, 7. rebounds, 25.5 minutes and shot 47.1 percent from the field in 17 games with 14 being starts. He will challenge for a starting spot and could also see time at guard with the ability to shoot the 3-pointer. A 6-7 sophomore, Caroline is another of the talented transfers that will see time at multiple positions including guard. He was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman team after averaging 9.2 points and 6.2 rebounds in at Southern Illinois. Kyle averaged points, 3.9 rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block per game as a senior. At 6-6 he provides depth along the frontline.

13 Season Preview tranfers Nevada will again have three four-year transfers that will sit out as redshirts under NCAA transfer rules. Kendall Stephens from Purdue will practice with the team along with 6-7 twins Caleb and Cody Martin who played the last two seasons at North Carolina State. An All-Big 10 freshman team selection at Purdue, Stephens averaged 6.1 points and 1.3 rebounds in 14.2 minutes per game his junior year. The 6-7 guard will have one season remaining in Caleb Martin averaged 11.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 30.5 minutes per game his sophomore season. Cody averaged six points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 25. minutes per game in his second season playing for the Wolfpack. Both will have two years to play at Nevada after sitting out this season. nonconference schedule The nonconference schedule is one of the most difficult in school history as it features eight teams that competed in postseason play, five that won 20 or more games, two finished with a top 50 RPI and four others were in the top 100. The schedule is comprised of entirely Division I schools, a change from past seasons when Division II schools were often used to fill the schedule. Highlighting the nonconference schedule are November matchups with St. Mary s and Oregon State along with a trip to Washington in mid-december. The Pack plays in Moraga, Calif. on Nov. 11 and hosts the Beavers on Nov. 1. The trip to UW is set for Dec. 11. The Gaels finished with an RPI of 29 last season after posting a 29-6 record and reached the quarterfinals of the NIT. OSU plays at Lawlor Events Center in a return game from last season won by the Beavers in Corvallis. An at-large selection to the NCAA tournament, the Beavers posted a record and finished with an RPI of 4. In between the two early marquee matchup, the Pack will host Loyola Marymount on Nov. 14. The Pack will play four games against a GCI Great Alaska Shootout field that includes three teams that earned spots in the 2016 NCAA Championships and two others that played in postseason tournaments. The Wolf Pack last played in the tournament in 1990 and went 0-3. The eight-team field includes Buffalo, Oakland, UC Davis, Weber State, Drake, Iona, the hosts Alaska Anchorage along with the Wolf Pack. Buffalo, Weber State and Iona competed in the NCAA Championships while Oakland played in the inaugural Las Vegas 16. Nevada hosts Iona on Nov. 20 as part of the Shootout then opens play in Anchorage against Oakland on Nov. 23. The Pack plays either Buffalo or Alaska Anchorage on Nov. 24. The finals are set for Nov. 26. Nevada closes out November hosting Pacific on Nov. 29. The Pack won 5-2 in Stockton last season in double overtime. The Pack is at Bradley on Dec. 3 as part of the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Conference shootout. The final nonconference home game is with CIT runner-up UC Irvine on Dec. 14. The Anteaters went 2-10 last season and finished with an RPI of 65. At the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas, Dec Nevada squares off against UC Santa Barbara and Towson. Both teams played in the inaugural Vegas 16 last season. the mountain west schedule The season is the fifth for the University of Nevada in the Mountain West. Last season the Wolf Pack tied for fourth and won a conference tournament game for the first time downing New Mexico in the quarterfinals. The Wolf Pack will play eight home-and-home series and two one-time games again this season. Nevada will play just one game against Wyoming in Laramie on Jan. 14 and Colorado State in Reno on March 4 to conclude the regular season. The Pack opens play on Wednesday, Dec. 2, when it welcomes San Jose State to Lawlor Events Center for the conference opener. Nevada then travels to Fresno, Calif. For a New Year s Eve showdown against Fresno State, which won the Mountain West Championship a year ago and went on to the NCAA Tournament. Regular-season champ San Diego State comes to Lawlor on Jan. 4 as the Pack seeks revenge for a pair of tough losses to the Aztecs a year ago, including one in the MW Championships semifinals. Two road games follow, at New Mexico on Jan. 7 and at Wyoming on the 14th. Nevada will then be home for a pair of games on Jan. 1 against Air Force and again on the 21st against Fresno State. A trip to Boise, Idaho follows as the Pack takes on Boise State on Jan. 25. The Pack returns home for a single game against New Mexico on Jan. 2 before hitting the road again, this time at Utah State on Feb. 1 to take on the Aggies. The Governor s Series matchup with UNLV begins on Wednesday, Feb. as the Rebels come to Lawlor for the first of two matchups. The return game in Las Vegas is set for Feb. 25. Nevada travels to San Diego State to face the Aztecs on Feb. 11 and then goes to Colorado Springs to take on Air Force on Feb. 15. The Pack returns home for a pair of games against Utah State on Feb. 1 and versus Boise State on the 22nd. After the second UNLV matchup on Feb. 25, the Wolf Pack travels to face San Jose State on March 1 before wrapping up the regular season at home against Colorado State on March 4.
