NEVADA HOST PORTLAND STATE FOR HOME OPENER After going 3-1 away from Reno to begin the season the Nevada men s basketball team hosts Portland State (2-1) in its home opener on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Nevada is off to its best start since the season when the Wolf Pack also started the year 3-1. The last 4-1 start was to begin the season. Game promotions for the home opener at $2 beers and $1 hot dogs. The team will debut their new pregame warmup routine prior to tip-off on Wednesday against Portland State. STATS OF NOTE Senior guard Marqueze Coleman has scored 30 plus points in the last two games with 34 at Hawai`i and 31 at Pacific. Coleman s 24.8 points per game is second in the conference and 13th nationally. Senior forward AJ West has three double-doubles in the first four games of the season. 3 WOLF PACK LAYUPS Three Nevada players are averaging double figures; Marqueze Coleman (24.8 ppg), D.J. Fenner (15.8 ppg) and Tyron Criswell (10.8 ppg). Cameron Oliver (9.8 ppg) and AJ West (9.3 ppg) are close behind, averaging just under 10 points per game. Senior Marqueze Coleman has produced back-to-back 30 plus point games with 34 at Hawai`i and 31 at Pacific. Coleman s 24.8 points per game ranks second in the MW and 13th in NCAA I. Coleman s 43 free throws made and 53 attempted are fist in NCAA I. He is attempting 13.3 free throws per game and making Coleman played all 50 minutes at Pacific and D.J. Fenner 48 minutes. After coaching over 900 games at the professional level first-year head coach Eric Musselman won his first as a college head coach when the Wolf Pack defeated Coastal Carolina to begin the season. First-year head coach Eric Musselman s professional head coaching record is Musselman has coached professional in the NBA, CBA, NBA-DL and USBL. Nevada s three wins away from Reno this season is one more than the team totaled all last season going 2-11 in true road games and 0-3 at neutral sites. The Pack is also tops in three-point field goal percentage (25%) in the conference and 26th in NCAA I. Nevada is third in the MW and 90th nationally shooting 71.9 percent from the free throw line. Of Coleman s 99 points this season 78 have been scored after halftime. He scored 32 of his career-high 34 at Hawai`i after the break. Coleman scored 15 of Nevada s 20 points in the two overtimes at Pacific. He had eight in the first OT and seven the second OT period. Coleman s 34 points is the high by a Pack player since Malik Story scored 35 points at home against Yale on Dec. 28. The last 30-point game at Nevada came on Jan. 22, 2014 at Fresno State when Deonte Burton scored 32 points and Cole Huff had 31 in a double overtime Wolf Pack victory. Nevada has been outscored by its opponents in the first half but have outscored opponents after the break by 42, which includes a advantage in overtime. Coleman and AJ West were named to the Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic all-tournament team. Freshman guard Lindsey Drew returned to the starting lineup at Pacific after missing the game at Hawai`i with an ankle injury. Drew scored season highs with five points and eight rebounds against the Tigers. In each game a Nevada player has posted the game-high in rebounds and all four times it was a double figure rebound game; West three times with 11 vs. CCU, 12 vs. MSU and 16 at Pacific while Cameron Oliver grabbed 13 vs. Hawai`i. Oliver, a freshman, is averaging 9.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game in 26.8 minutes per game. Oliver made his first career start at Pacific and totaled eight points, eight rebounds and four blocks before fouling out of the game. Nevada has won the rebounding battle in all four games; vs. CCU, vs. MSU, at UH and at Pacific. Five Pack players scored in double figures in the win over Montana State; Coleman (20 pts), Fenner (17 pts), Oliver (13 pts), West (11 pts) and Cooper, Jr. (11 pts). Nevada had four in doubles figures against CCU and at Pacific. Three reached double figures at Hawai`i. Coleman and Fenner have scored in double figures in all four games this season. West and Criswell have scored in double figures in three games. 3

4 HEAD COACH ERIC MUSSELMAN Eric Musselman was named the 18th coach at the University of Nevada on March 26, Musselman signed a five-year contract that runs through the season. Nevada is Musselman s first collegiate head coaching position but he was head coach for seven professional teams, including two seasons with the Golden State Warriors ( ) and one with the Sacramento Kings ( ). He has won more than 500 games as a head coach with an overall winning percentage of.625 ( ). The 50-year old Musselman spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach at power five schools Arizona State and LSU. In 2013 the Sun Devils advanced to the second round of the NIT and earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament in The 2015 Tiger squad also advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The 2013 ASU squad improved by 12 wins and advanced to postseason play for the first time in three years. He was promoted to associate head coach prior to the season. While at ASU Musselman coached 2013 secondround NBA selection Carrick Felix, Pac-12 co-freshman of the Year Jahii Carson and Jordan Bachynski who led the nation in blocks in In his season at LSU he coached two first-team All- SEC selections in Jarrell Martin and Jordan Mickey. Mickey was also selected to the SEC All-Defensive team. Musselman returns to Reno where he spent the season coaching the NBA D-Leagues Bighorns and led them to the only Western Conference title in franchise history. His father, Bill was also an NBA head coach and they were the first father-son combination to become coaches in the NBA. Bill coached the Reno Bighorns of the CBA in His first head coaching job came at the age of 23, when he was hired by the Rapid City Thrillers of the Continental Basketball Association in He was the youngest coach in CBA history and the fastest to win 100 games. Musselman served as a head coach in the CBA, the United States Basketball League (USBL) and the NBADL along with the two NBA head coaching stops. His teams collected six division titles and advance to postseason all seven hears. He coached 24 players that went on to play in the NBA. Five times he was named CBA all-star coach. He led the USBL Florida Sharks to a 53-3 record in two seasons and a league championship which earned him USBL Coach of the Year honors. After working as an assistant under Doc Rivers and Hall of Fame coach Chuck Daly, he was named the head coach of the Golden State Warriors in He led the Warriors to 38 wins, a team-high in more than 10 years, and was runner-up in the NBA Coach of Year voting. He also coached the Warriors during season. Following a year as an assistant with the Memphis Grizzlies under Mike Fratello, he coached the Sacramento Kings for the season. Musselman worked as an analyst on radio and television prior to coaching the Bighorns ( ) and LA D-Fenders ( ) of the NBADL. In 2012 he earned Coach of the Year honors. He never let me be comfortable... he always pushed me to get better. The Gophers were coached by Bill Musselman, the father of the Wolf Pack s first-year head coach. One of the members of those Gophers teams was Saunders, the long time NBA head coach, who recently lost his battle with cancer. After Bill s passing in 2000, Eric found the detailed diagram of his father s pregame routine and will now use it at Nevada home games in his first season as the Pack s head coach. The pregame routine was loved by Gopher fans and made Minnesota basketball the hottest ticket in town. Williams Arena was stuffed to the rafters on game nights with fans arriving an hour before tipoff to see the show. THE DREW FAMILY TREE Freshman guard Lindsey Drew comes from one of the more talented basketball families in the nation that includes his father, Larry, and two brother, Larry II and Landon. Larry senior played in the NBA for 10 seasons, was an NBA head coach of the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks and is currently an assistant coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers His brother Larry II played at North Carolina and UCLA while Landon is currently in his senior season at Cal State Northridge. 6 MUSSELMAN OFF TO FAST START AS LEADER OF THE PACK Head coach Eric Musselman has led the Wolf Pack to a 3-1 start this season, the best start for a first-year head coach at Nevada since Mark Fox went 3-1 after four games to start his first campaign in Fox led the Pack to a 4-1 start, the best in the NCAA I era for a first-year Wolf Pack coach. Coleman had a careerhigh 34 at Hawai`i and followed that with 31 at Pacific. Coleman is second in the Mountain West and 13th nationally averaging 24.8 points per game. Coleman s 34 point game at Hawai`i is the high by a Nevada player since Malik Story scored 35 points at home against Yale on Dec. 28, The last 30-point game at Nevada came on Jan. 22, 2014 at Fresno State when Deonte Burton scored 32 points and Cole Huff had 31 in a double overtime Wolf Pack victory. Coleman scored in double figures in all four games of the Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic and was named to the all-tournament team. Of his 99 points, 78 have come after halftime. In the season opening win over Coastal Carolina he scored all 14 of his points in the second half. Against Montana State nine of his 20 were second half points. In the game at Hawai`i he netted 32 of his career and game-high 34 points in the second half. At Pacific he scored 23 after halftime including 15 in the two overtime periods. The 6-4 guard is also getting to the free throw line making 43-of-53 attempts. The 43 made and 53 attempts are both first in NCAA I The 81.1 free throw percentage is eighth in the conference. Fenner is upping his game in his junior year having scored in double figures in each of the Pack s first four games. Fenner is second on the team and 14th in the Mountain West averaging 15.8 points per game. His 7.3 rebounds per game is third on the team and 16th in the MW. Fenner led the Wolf Pack with 16 points in the win over Coastal Carolina. He totaled 17 against Montana State, 16 at Hawai i and 14 at Pacific. In the CCU contest he made a career-high three 3-pointers. Twice he has grabbed a career-high eight rebounds vs. CCU and at Pacific. Criswell is shooting 47.2 percent from the floor while racking up 5.8 rebound and 1.3 steal per contest. Criswell posted nine points with three steals and six rebounds, including four boards on the offensive glass, to help lead the Pack to its first victory of the season over Coastal Carolina. He also filled up the box score against Montana State where he went 5-of-7 from the field with three blocks, three assists and a steal. He has scored in double figures in the last three games. FOSTER SHEDS SOME WEIGHT Sophomore forward Elijah Foster lost 20 pounds in the offseason as a way to better himself physically and get himself prepare to play Coach Musselman s uptempo style of play. The Seattle native has started the first three games of the season but is still looking for his first points. FAB FRESHMEN Two Pack freshmen have already made their impact in their first year in the program. Cameron Oliver is averaging 9.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in 26.8 minutes per game. Oliver scored 13 points in the season opening win over Coastal Carolina and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds in the Hawai`i game. At Pacific he made his first career start. Guard Lindsey Drew has started three games missing the Hawai`i contest with a sprained ankle but returned to the lineup at Pacific. He is averaging three points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and two steals in 26.3 minutes per game. In the win over CCU he filled the stat sheet scoring four points, dished out six assists, had three steals, blocked two shots and grabbed five boards playing 38 minutes. THREE TRANSFERS SITTING OUT Marcus Marshall, Leland King and Jordan Caroline are transfers that will sit out the season under NCAA transfer rules and be eligible for the season. Marshall, an All-Missouri Valley Conference honoree, averaged 19.5 points at Missouri State his junior year and will have one season to play at Nevada King averaged 14.6 points and 7.8 rebounds his sophomore year at Brown and will have two seasons to play for the Pack Caroline an All-Missouri Valley Conference freshman team selection averaged 9.2 points and 6.2 rebounds at Southern Illinois and has three seasons to play at Nevada starting next year 7

A NEW BEGINNING On March 26, 2015 Director of Athletics Doug Knuth hired former NBA head coach Eric Musselman to become the 18th head coach of the Wolf Pack and he was signed to a five-year contract that runs through the season Musselman was given the task of changing the culture of Pack basketball and return the program to the glory days that included four consecutive trips to the NCAA Championships from The 2004 team reached the Sweet 16. THE BACKCOURT Nevada returns four veteran backcourt players that started a combined 71 games last year. Three of the four are upperclassmen in seniors Marqueze Coleman and Tyron Criswell along with junior D.J. Fenner. Sophomore Eric Cooper is also back after starting the final 14 games of his freshman year. LA City Player of the Year Lindsey Drew brings a wealth of talent and versatility to the team. Drew averaged 14.2 points, 9.6 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game at Fairfax High School as a prep senior.
