I am really excited to see him work with the guys and get the ball rolling. - Nick Fazekas, Nevada s all-time leading scorer Eric is one of the best in our sport. Extremely driven and knowledgeable. I ve watched and coached against him in the NBA and FIBA games. He has an uncanny feel for the game, and ability to read where the game is at. More importantly, is his ability to motivate and teach his players what it takes to improve and win. He is as good as it gets. - John Calipari, Head coach, University of Kentucky He taught me how to play. He taught me how to be a professional. I feel like I ve always had the ability to do certain things, but he gave me a different mindset that I never had as a professional. I give him thanks for me being in the situation I m in now. Instead of doing what a lot of coaches did, he just tried to get to know me. He just believed in me. He kind of just let me play, but he taught me. He never let me be comfortable... he always pushed me to get better. There was never a day when he didn t point out something I could do better. - Gerald Green, Guard/Forward, Phoenix Suns He s as competitive of a guy as I ve ever coached against. He s hungry. He s a brilliant offensive mind and he s going to be a terrific recruiter because of his competitive nature and what he has to sell. NEVADA RECORDS FIRST MOUNTAIN WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS WIN Nevada s win over New Mexico is the first in four trips to the MW Championships. The Wolf Pack lost to top seed San Diego State on Friday. The Pack is 1-4 at the event. COLEMAN MOVES INTO 23RD EYES RANDALL FOR 22ND Senior Marqueze Coleman played 21 minutes off the bench in the MW Championships after missing three and one half games with an ankle injury. Coleman did not play in the first round CBI win over Montana. He scored his 1,000th point at San José State and moved up two spots in the Pack s win over Utah State to 23rd with 1,047 career points. Next on the list is Dwayne Randall ( ) with his 1,060 points and Matt Williams ( ) is 21st with 1,062. He needs 14 points to pass Randall and 16 to move past Williams for 21st. PACK TIES FOR FOURTH IN FINAL MOUNTAIN WEST STANDINGS Nevada finished tied for fourth in the final Mountain West standings with New Mexico at 10-8 on the season. The fourth place finish is the second best for the Wolf Pack in four seasons in the conference. The team also went 10-8 to tie for third. Last season the Pack won five MW games finishing 10th with a 5-13 record. In the preseason coaches poll the Pack was picked ninth. OLIVER NAMED FEB. 15 MOUNTAIN WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK Nevada freshman forward Cameron Oliver has been named Mountain West Men s Basketball Player of the Week for games played through Saturday, February 13. Helped guide Nevada to home victories over Mountain West foes Air Force (72-52) and Fresno State (77-72 OT) on February 10 and February 13, respectively. In two games, averaged 14.5 points, 17.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2.0 assists, while shooting 10-of-16 (62.5 percent) from the floor and 7-for-8 (87.5 percent) from the charity stripe. Set a new MW single-game record with 24 rebounds in the Wolf Pack s win over Fresno State. Added a career-high 20 points to go along with two assists and three blocks versus the Bulldogs. Recorded the Mountain West s first game since Feb. 18, 2012 when New Mexico s Drew Gordon scored 27 points and pulled down 20 rebounds vs. UNLV. Notched nine points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal against Air Force. 12 NEVADA IS ONE RESILIENT PACK Nevada has lost back-to-back games just twice this season. The first occurrence came in two extremely difficult places to play, at Wichita State on Dec. 22 and New Mexico on Dec. 30. The second two-game skid were losses at Boise State and in the regular season finale to New Mexico at home. The second streak was snapped when the Pack eliminated UNM for the MW Championships with a victory in Las Vegas. The first back-to-back setbacks marked the deepest Nevada has gone into a season without consecutive losses since the season. That season s squad and this year s Wolf Pack both suffered defeats in the 12th and 13th games of the season with the team dropping road contests to St. Mary s and Hawai i. NEVADA USING BALANCED ATTACK Nevada is using a balanced attack under first-year head coach Eric Musselman, as four players are scoring in double figures. The quartet have combined to score 70 percent of the Pack s points this season, 1782-of An average of 52.4 points per game of the team s 74.9 per game. Senior guard Marqueze Coleman tops the list with his 15.4 points per game followed by junior guard D.J. Fenner s 13.1 points per game. Freshman Cameron is third on the team scoring 13 points per game followed by senior Tyron Criswell s 12.7 per contest. Sophomore Eric Cooper, Jr. is less than a point from averaging double figures with 9.4 per outing. If you add in Cooper the five score 82.4 percent of the teams points, 2101-of-2547 for an average of 61.8 points of the team s 74.9 per game. IMPROVED OFFENSIVE NUMBERS FROM LAST SEASON Nevada s offense is scoring just over 14 more points per game this season than last year. The Pack is averaging 74.9 points compared to 60.5 last season. The Wolf Pack is shooting 41.9 percent from the field and last year shot From behind the arc the squad is shooting 29.5 percent and last year the team ended the year shooting 26.6 percent. Nevada is also improved at the free throw line making 73.6 percent of its opportunities and last year shot 69.6 percent. DEFENSE CLAMPS DOWN The Wolf Pack has bought into coach Musselman s aggressive manto-man defense as Nevada ranks second in the MW and 21st in NCAA I in field goal percentage defense (39.6%). Ten of the last 16 opponents have shot less than 38.2 percent. In Reno SDSU and FS were held under 30 percent. Nevada also ranks third in the conference with 7.1 steals per game and leads the league with 5.7 blocks per game. Freshman Lindsey Drew ranks fourth in the MW with 1.5 steals per game and senior Marqueze Coleman is eighth at 1.3 per outing. SECOND HALF SUPERLATIVES Before the season, head coach Eric Musselman placed an emphasis on being the most conditioned team on the floor, especially at the end of a game. The Wolf Pack has responded by outscoring its opponent, after halftime. Nevada is out-scoring opponents by 3.5 points per game after the break which is key in a 10-4 record in games decided by less than five points and 3-1 overtime mark. The Pack has won the second half in 22 of its 34 contests. Marqueze Coleman has been one player that has been making a living in the second half this season. The senior has scored 66 percent of his points (304-of-460) after halftime. Junior guard D.J. Fenner is scoring 56.5 (253-of-447) percent of his points after halftime. ROAD TRIP BLUES The Nevada basketball team has suffered through some unforeseen travel problems this season that started with a trip to Pacific on Nov. 21. The Wolf Pack won in double overtime but the bus trip home was much longer than the game A blown tire with the team within 60 miles of Reno changed the plans. Taxi s and fans helped transport members of the staff and team to Reno but some members of the staff arrived at 4 a.m. on a second bus that was sent by the charter company. High winds canceled the Pack s flight to Salt Lake City and short bus ride to Logan, Utah for the game at Utah State. With no options and

13 lack of a large bus in the area, the Boys and Girls Club shuttle bus came to the rescue transporting the team and parts of the staff on the 10 hour ride to Logan. Two cars were also used to transport other members of the staff. The team arrived at 1 a.m. and practiced at 11 a.m. The Pack defeated the Aggies for just the fourth time in 22 meetings in Logan Coach Musselman decided to bus back on a larger charter bus that was welcomed by a winter storm upon its arrival in Reno. The most recent long trip was following the victory at San José State. The team jumped aboard the charter bus heading for Reno only to once again get close before being stopped on I-80 by a winter storm in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, just 70 miles from home. After several hours of sitting and sleeping on the side of the road, the interstate reopened. Chain restrictions slowed the travel pace and the team arrived at Lawlor Events Center at 7:30 a.m. The bright spot in the long trips is the Pack 3-0. NEVADA GOES OVER THE CENTURY MARK Nevada s 119 point output in the win over Fresno Pacific is the second highest total in the Mountain West this season and the second 100-point game for the Wolf Pack this season. The last time Nevada had two 100-point games or more in the same season was Nevada s 119 points in the victory is the most for the Wolf Pack since scoring 120 in a win over Loyola Marymount on Nov. 29, 1991 at Lawlor Events Center. The Wolf Pack s 73 second half points, a new program record, in the win over the Sunbirds was its most since scoring 71 in the second half against Northwestern State on Dec. 19, Nevada s first 100-point performance of the season, a victory over Holy Names, saw the largest scoring margin in a Wolf Pack win since it topped Sonoma State, 95-39, on Dec. 9, PACK IN BLACK...AND TURQUOISE...AND BLUE...AND SILVER...AND WHITE In order to make his program more unique nationally, head coach Eric Musselman and his team decided to add black uniforms to go along with the Wolf Pack s N7 turquoise, and its traditional blue, silver and white uniforms. The black jerseys were unveiled for the MW-MVC Challenge game against Drake on Dec. 12 BREAKDOWN OF NEVADA S RECORD BY UNIFORM White: W-CCU, L-@UH, W-FPU, W- SCU, L-BSU, W-FS, W-USU, W-Montana Blue: W-@UOP, L-@CSUF, L-@OSU, L-@WSU, L-@UNM, W-@AFA, W-UNLV, W-@USU, W-@SJSU, L-@UNLV Turquoise: W-MSU, W-HNU Silver: W-PSU, W-WYO, L-SDSU, W-AF, L-UNM, W-EWU Black: W-DU, L-@FS, W-@WYO, L-@CSU, W-CSU, W-vs. UNM, L-vs. SDSU NEVADA HONORS THE PAST WITH PREGAME ROUTINE The University of Nevada men s basketball team honored Bill Musselman and Flip Saunders prior to the Portland State game by performing the pregame routine that the University of Minnesota used in the early 1970s. The Gophers were coached by Bill Musselman, the late father of the Wolf Pack s first-year head coach. One of the members of those Gophers teams was Saunders, the long time NBA head coach, who recently lost his battle with cancer. After Bill s passing in 2000, Eric found the detailed diagram of his father s pregame routine and will now use it at Nevada home games in his first season as the Pack s head coach. STIVRINS GOES DOWNTOWN Senior Lucas Stivrins made the most of his extended playing time in the Holy Names victory scoring a game-high 21 points, all coming in the final 9:19 of the game. Stivrins made 6-of-7, three-pointers. He made his final four 3-point attempts and scored the Pack s final nine points and 21 of the final 25 Nevada points. A hand injury has sidelined the senior and a return time has not been set. It is the first double figure scoring game of his career with his previous high being nine twice. The six made 3-pointers is tied for the high by a player in the Mountain West this season. RECORD CROWD WATCHES PACK TOP UNLV The Wolf Pack beat in-state foe UNLV for the fourth time over the last six meetings and it did it in front of a record-setting crowd. The 11,341 fans that packed into Lawlor Events Center was the fifth-largest crowd in the history of the building and the most since 11,462 fans packed into the arena on March 3, 2007 against New Mexico State.
