UW won two-straight by an average of 28.5 points per game last week to end its four-game conference slide. This week UW travels to hostile territory at Indiana (12-8, 5-3) Thursday at 6 p.m. CT, where the Badgers have only one twice in 26 tries, and at Penn State (13-8, 4-5) on Super Bowl Sunday at 1 p.m. CT where UW has never won (0-14 at University Park). Last Thursday UW cruised past Penn State The Badgers had four players in double figures for the first time since the UW-Green Bay game on Dec. 11, and set a school record for fewest turnovers in a game with five. Sunday the Badgers made quick work of Northwestern, 75-45, to tie Illinois for ninth with a 3-6 Big Ten mark. The blowouts were welcome after losing three close games, two in overtime since January 13. Part of the recent success is the emergence of freshman 6-4 forward Lin Zastrow of Jefferson, Wis. Zastrow had a breakout game at Ohio State Jan. 20 matching up with their 6-4 center, Jantel Lavender, and tying her career high with 15 points. She recorded a new-high vs. Penn State with 16 points and has averaged 13.0 points the past three games, far above her 4.4 ppg season average. The versatile center can hit the three or post-up and offers the Badgers a much-needed third scoring option. With 16 points vs. Penn State Jan. 24, Jolene Anderson became the UW career leader in double-figure scoring in 106 games. She passed Jessie Stomski and LaTonya Sims who scored double-figures in 105 games. Anderson now has scored in double figures in 107 of 112 career games.
