ROUNDING OUT 2013 Tuesday marks the end of the 2013 calender year and Northern Illinois women s basketball s non-conference schedule. NIU is looking to close it on a high note when hosts downtown rival Illinois-Chicago. New Year s Eve tipoff with UIC is set for 1 p.m. at the NIU Convocation Center. THE HUSKIES AND THE FLAMES The New Year s Eve bash between NIU and UIC will be 43rd meeting all-time between the two schools. Northern Illinois owns a advantage in the series and is 2-1 in the last three meetings at the Convocation Center. In the last three matchups, NIU is 0-3 but has only been outscored by the Flames by an average of four points (55-51). LAST TIME OUT The Huskies hosted Northern Iowa December 21 in their first home game at the NIU Convocation Center in exactly one month. NIU led for 39:46 of the regulation 40 minutes but a backdoor, baseline layup by the Panthers with 2.7 seconds left sunk Northern Illinois, The Huskies held a seven point advantage at halftime, 32-25, and would go on to lead by as much as 11 points in the period. While NIU shot 27-of-56 (.482) from the field, it was UNI s 10-of-26 (.385) clip from behind three point line that aided the Panthers comeback. Northern Illinois would outscore Northern Iowa in the paint, Three Huskies reached double-figures in scoring with Amanda Corral pacing NIU at 18 points, 12 of which occurred in the second half. Freshman Jazmine Harris had her first career doubledigit effort with 15 points, reaching the mark in 19 minutes. Redshirt junior Danny Pulliam scored 12 points, the fourth time this season she scored 10-or-more points this year. SCOUTING THE FLAMES Illinois-Chicago has had a terrific run of form lately as it is 9-2 this season, winning its last nine games. UIC s last loss occurred November 10 at Northwestern, 79-63, and since then, the Flames have outscored their opponents, 72-63, in their undefeated streak. Amongst those victories was a triumph at Wisconsin December 21 at the Kohl Center, whom the Huskies lost to on November 17. Six of UIC s wins have occurred on the road or on neutral sites. Rachel Story has been the Flames top-scorer, averaging 20.7 points per game in her nine appearances this season. Ruvanna Campbell and Katie Hannemann are also scoring big for UIC as they average 14.0 and 13.5 points, respectively. In her 11 starts this season, Campell is averaging a double-double per game as she is also rebounding at a clip of 10.8 per game, a big factor for the Flames +8.5 rebounding margin. From the field, Illinois-Chicago is shooting.407 but is allowing its opponents to shoot.390. Averaging 20 trips to the free throw line per game, the Flames are shooting.669 as a team from the charity stripe. NEW YEAR S EVE HISTORY LESSON Tuesday afternoon s matinee will be the Huskies sixth contest alltime on New Year s Eve and NIU s first since 2011, a loss at DePaul. All-time, Northern Illinois is 3-2 on New Year s Eve and last earned victory in 1995 when the Huskies defeated Michigan at Chick Evans Fieldhouse, NIU also earned victories over Dartmouth (1988, 94-86) and against Iowa (1983, 69-65) on New Year s Eve. 6 LAST MEETING WITH THE FLAMES Northern Illinois and UIC squared off December 22, 2012 at the UIC Pavillion in the Chicago Loop. The Huskies jumped out as the aggressor as they took a lead at the half, but the Flames tied it up at the end of regulation, 57-57, to force overtime. UIC would go on to outscore NIU in the extra period, 9-4, to defeat Northern Illinois, The Flames accounted for 22 points at the free throw line, making 22-of-30 (.733) attempts. THE FLAMES COOL IN DeKALB Northern Illinois has had a lot of success against Illinois-Chicago in DeKalb over the course of the series history as the Huskies are 17-7 all-time at home against the Flames. The Convocation Center s confines have been quite friendly for NIU against UIC since its doors opened in 2003, as Northern Illinois is 3-1 versus the Flames. JAZ FUSION While also an eclectic offshoot of the popular style of music, freshman Jazmine Harris has seemed to put a few pieces of the college game puzzle together as she has improved her play week-to-week. While only playing 19 minutes in the Huskies last game versus Northern Iowa December 22, Harris accumulated a career-high 15 points as she slashed her way to a 6-for-10 (.600) performance. She also grabbed five rebounds and was 3-for-4 at the free throw line. At Wisconsin, her home state no less, the frosh finished 4-for-8 from the field to acount for eight points with two rebounds and a steal in quick spell minutes during the first and second half. On Nov. 21 versus Bradley, Harris scored four points and registered her first career assist, dishing two against the Braves. In the win over Lamar, Harris scored five points and pulled down six rebounds in the effort. WINNING THE BATTLE OF THE BOARDS Northern Illinois has cleaned the glass very well this season as it has outrebounded its foes, The Huskies suffered their only loss of the season when outrebounding their opponent last Last Meeting (UIC) Official Basketball Box Score -- Game Totals -- Final Statistics Northern Illinois vs UIC p.m. CT at Chicago, Ill. NIU has converted 15 fast break layups this season, while only surrending six, to outscore its opponents, ON A SIMILAR NOTE... While not always converting on a fast break, Northern Illinois has been able to capitalize on its created turnovers this season as NIU is outscoring its opponents, , in points off turnovers - a margin of +24. JUST STEAL IT The pressure on South Dakota State when it had possession Tuesday night was smothering as the Huskies collapsed the post and attacked the perimeter, acquiring 12 steals in the contest and causing 15 turnovers. Northern Illinois has not recorded 12-ormore steals since it registered 19 steals versus Ball State January 19, 2011 in Head Coach Kathi Bennett s first season. For the season, NIU has outsolen its opponents, In their nine games this season, the Huskies are avergaing 5.9 steals per game this season, besting their opponents average of 5.2 this season. Lead changed - 4 times. A TOUGH SCOUT Bench contributions have been very large for the Huskies this season as they have outscored their opponents, , this 6

season. Northern Illinois biggest effort of the season occurred at Wisconsin on November 17 as it outscored the Badgers, The largest margin this season was against Bradley four days later with NIU posting a +20 mark (28-8) at the Convocation Center. BALL SECURITY The Huskies have been solid this season maintaining ball possession, only turning the ball over 121 times to their opponents 126. In the NCAA Stat Report published December 22, Northern Illinois was 31st in the nation, averaging turnovers per game this season. The mark is the second-best in the MAC as well. SHE S HEATING UP... Sophomore Alexis Lindstrom has made 14-of-42 (.333) three point shot attempted this season. In her nine appearances, she has made a trey in seven games, including five straight. Lindstrom played with confidence November 30th against the Lamar, shooting a season best 5-for-8 (.625), including a 4-for-7 clip (.571) from behind the arc to account for 14 points versus Lamar. The day before against host New Mexico State, the Howards Grove, Wis. native drained two three-pointers to round her weekend average to 10.0 points per game at the Aggie Hotel Encanto Thanksgiving Classic. She was 1-for-1 at Illinois State December 5th, accounting for the only three-point basket of the game. Lindstrom finished 2-5 from behind the arc at SDSU. A FAN OF THE DRAMATIC Junior Amanda Corral turned some heads at Frost Arena in Brookings, S.D. with her ability to score and control the floor. About 13 minutes into the game with some help from the defense, Corral went on a 7-0 scoring run to give the Huskies a lead. It did not end there either. After a defensive stop with five seconds left in the first half, Corral took the inbounding pass down the floor, hesitated at the key and threw a jumpshot up with about 0.2 seconds left on the clock to bring Northern Illinois back within three points heading into the locker room, THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER OFF THE BENCH Senior Alicia Johnson came off the bench for the first time all season at South Dakota State and was a major contributor and pace setter for NIU in the contest. Johnson, who was held scoreless over the last four games, contributed a big seven points for the Huskies. Her first basket of the game came on a fast break as she stripped the ball on the perimeter and dribbled it down the court for a layup. She also accounted for a three point play in the game, converting a layup while being fouled and making the ensuing free throw. No. 30 finished 3-for-3 from the field and also accounted for three steals. For the season, Johnson is averaging 3.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. It s the magic number. A MODEL OF CONSISTENCY Senior Alicia Johnson has been one of the Huskies top-performers at the free throw line in her four years at Northern Illinois and is 11-for-11 through eight games this season. On November 8 at Green Bay, Johnson was 6-for-6 in front of the Phoenix student section. Against Mississippi Valley State last Tuesday, Johnson was 4-for-4 at the line. As a junior in , she was 9-for-10 at the charity stripe. Dating back to her sophomore year, Johnson has made 25 of her last 26 attempts at the free throw line (.962). In her four seasons at NIU, she owns a.783 career free throw percentage. Her impact in games has been tremendous for Northern Illinois as it is 2-1 when she records a double-double and is 4-1 when she scores in double figures. PULLIAM S GRIT CARRIES HUSKIES AT ISU Redshirt junior point guard Danny Pulliam has been a tear the last seven games, averaging 11.1 points, 3.1 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game with only 1.4 turnovers per contest. While her run of stellar form has been impressive, her play at Illinois State was a gamechanger for the Huskies as she scored, dove on the floor for loose balls, created chances for NIU on offense and pressured on defense. She scored a career-high 16 points with four assists, no turnovers, two steals and two rebounds in 34 minutes on the floor. 10 of her 7

CAP AND GOWN After finishing her last final Tuesday December 10, redshirt junior Danny Pulliam completed her Bachelor s of Science degree from Northern Illinois University in family and individual development. Pulliam walked across the stage Sunday, December 15 at the NIU Convocation Center and will start graduate school this January to begin working on a Master s degree in Sports Management at Northern Illinois. A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS The five players on the floor for Northern Illinois have had no problem sharing the ball to find the most high-percentage shots. The Huskies have totaled 97 assists through nine games, averaging 10.8 helpers a game. Five times this season, NIU has gone over double-digit in assists, peaked by a 16 assist effort versus Lamar in the Aggie Hotel Encanto Thanksgiving Classic November 30 at New Mexico State. It was the most assists by the Huskies since a 19 assist effort at Ohio University February 6, AUGUSTA: THE DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE Through nine games, junior forward Natecia Augusta has three double-doubles this season. Augusta entered with no such performances in her career but has proven to be strong presence in the post for Northern Illinois this year. The Peoria, Ill. native has registered the feat twice at home and recorded her first road double-double at New Mexico State, her last such performance, with a 10 point, 12 rebound effort against the Aggies. On the season, Augusta is averaging 10.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest to pace the Huskies in rebounding. She is second on the team in scoring. MONEY OFF THE BENCH Senior Ashley Sneed has been just the answer the Huskies are looking for off the bench, averaging 15.0 minutes and 4.7 points per game. While the numbers might look average, Sneed is shooting an extremely impressive.553 from the field (21-for-38) to lead Northern Illinois in that category. What makes the mark that much more impressive is the fact that she has made most of her baskets as a shooter, not as a slasher. DIME DISHER While Pulliam has found a groove scoring as of late, she never lost her ability to distribute the ball, despite missing most of the last two seasons with injury. The junior is averaging 3.1 assists per game this season and has recorded at least four assists in five games, including four of the last six games. SOME PERSPECTIVE ON PULLIAM Through nine games, Danny Pulliam has 28 assists, an average of 3.1 per game. The previous two seasons, Pulliam only made a total of 12 appearances and combined for 24 assists, averaging 2.0 per game. As a freshman in , the Indianapolis, Ind. native played in 30 games and registered 61 dimes (2.1 APG). EVERY SHOT COUNTS It was not a good night behind the arc at Illinois State as both the Huskies and the Redbirds were a combined 1-for-14 (.071) behind the three-point line with NIU going 1-for-3 (.333). Only sophomore Alexis Lindstrom left Redbird Arena that night with a three point basket, as she hit the shot to put NIU back up by 10 points, 41-31, with 12:25 left in the game. NIU would win, FREE IS A GOOD PRICE Thanks to a high volume of fouls by the Redbirds, 26, Northern Illinois went to the free throw line 26 times in its last game December 5 at Illinois State. The Huskies also made a season-high 16 points from the line for a.615 average. BOX SCORE FILLER Freshman Ally Lehman has been a consistent piece for the Huskies as she has done it all in the NIU lineup. In seven starts 8

and nine appearances, Lehman averages 26.1 minutes with 5.6 points per contest and is the second leading rebounder on the squad with 5.4 boards a game. She s third in the NIU lineup with 1.6 assists per game and is tied for second in blocks with three. CORRAL S POINT A MINUTE AFTERNOON Versus Lamar in NIU s Aggie Hotel Encanto Thanksgiving Classic finale, Amanda Corral found herself in foul trouble in the first half and was forced to sit 12 minutes on the bench. With nine points and eight points to her name in the period, the junior took control of the floor with her scoring in the second stanza, adding 16 points in 17 minutes to close the game with 25 points, a new personal best, in 25 minutes of play. She finished 10-of-15 from the field, also a new career-high in field goals made, and recorded three assists and two steals. BLOCK PARTY Not only was NIU knocking down shots against Lamar, but the Huskies were batting down shots, as the team blocked five shots in the contest. Two of those five blocks came from Natecia Augusta, who tied her career-high for blocks in a game. The total was the highest by NIU since blocking seven shots at Valpariaso Jan. 5, STAT WORTH NOTING FROM NIU-NMSU Northern Illinois made more field goals than New Mexico State in the lone showdown with the Aggies, 30-29, but was unable to defeat NMSU with the effort, falling CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER Freshman Caroline Kelty, who made her second appearance of the season versus Lamar, registered the first assist of her collegiate career November 30 against the Lady Cardinals. Kelty dished a pass to Alex Dumoulin, who converted a jumper in the closing minutes of the contest at the Pan American Center. SHARING THE WEALTH IN NEW MEXICO Of their 32 field goals at Lamar, NIU registered 16 assists, including four apiece by Danny Pulliam and Alicia Johnson. The mark tied the Huskies single game high this season for total assists, set versus Bradley Nov. 21. JOHNSON S IMPACT Senior Alicia Johnson did not score any points in the Huskies final game of the Aggie Hotel Encanto Thanksgiving Classic versus Lamar, but, as Head Coach Kathi Bennett said during the postgame radio interview (Alicia) set the tempo for us defensively. Johnson grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds in the game, nine of those on the defensive glass. The Chicago native also did work offensively in the game, dishing four assists to share the lead with Danny Pulliam. OK CORRAL Junior Amanda Corral has been the Huskies most-consistent scorer since her arrival in at Northern Illinois University. In 69 career games played, Corral has reached double-digits in scoring 45 times (.652). The Hobart, Ind. native has averaged 11.8 points in her NIU career, ranking her 18th all-time at NIU. The junior also has three career double-doubles. CLEANING THE OFFENSIVE BOARDS NIU has been strong on the offensive glass this season as it has out rebounded its opponents, (+13). In their two wins at the NIU Convocation Center in November, the Huskies led their opponents in offensive boards, 40-23, including an output of 21 versus Mississippi Valley State November 12. It was the first 20- plus performance by Northern Illinois since February 19, 2011 at Eastern Michigan, where the Huskies grabbed 21 offensive boards in their loss to the Eagles. Northern Illinois is averaging 14.1 offensive boards per game. TEAM NCAA STAT REPORT NATIONAL RANKING SUMMARY DECEMBER 29, 2013 NOTE: All team rankings out of 343 unless otherwise noted CATEGORY NAT. 10 since teammate Amanda Corral in to account for two double-doubles in a season. PUTTING UP SHOTS On November 21 versus Bradley, the Northern Illinois women s basketball team put up 74 shots in a game. The Huskies were 29-of-74 (.392) against the Braves and won the game, It was the first time in over two years, November 16, 2011 versus Western Illinois, that NIU recorded 70-or-more shots in a game. That night against the Leathernecks, NIU was 33-for-74 (.446) and defeated WIU, GOING THE DISTANCE With eight days of rest in her future at that time, junior Amanda Corral played in all 40 minutes of the action against Bradley. It was the ninth-time in her career that she had played in every minute of the contest. After accomplishing the feat three times as a freshman, she pulled it off five times last year, including a 45 minute overtime performance at UIC, Dec. 22, THE TRIUMPHANT RETURN OF JENNA THORP Though it may sound like something out of a movie, the NIU women s basketball coaches and players can confirm it was real. Redshirt junior forward Jenna Thorp returned to the lineup Nov. 21 versus Bradley, after injuring herself a month earleir in a scrimmage at Marquette. Thorp came off the bench after the first media timeout in the first half for her season debut. In 19 minutes of action, Thorp productively added 10 points that included a jumper with 1:31 left in the game to put the Huskies up by two scores, Off the ball, besides setting screens, the Hinckley, Ill., native charged the NIU players on the floor, as she vocally orchestrated Head Coach Kathi Bennett s offensive and defensive gameplan. SHAKING THE DUST OFF Due to a series of injuries over the last two seasons, redshirt junior Danny Pulliam has played in 46 games as a Huskie, 30 of which came as freshman. In only her 13th career appearance, Pulliam scored in double-digits for the first time, a career-high 15 points versus Illinois State. 32 games, three seasons, one meniscus tear and a microfracture surgery later, Pulliam reached double figures again as she dropped 11 points at Wisconsin Nov. 17, nine of which came in the second half. A NUGGET ON NINEVEH, INDIANA Did you know that the school used in the movie Hoosiers was located in Nineveh, Ind., the hometown of NIU freshman guard Ally Lehman? According to IMDB.com, the exterior of the ficticious Hickory High School was actually Nineveh Elementary School. HUSKIES SIGN THREE FOR The Northern Illinois women s basketball program signed three players to National Letters of Intent for the school year Tuesday as the Huskies signed three players from the state of Wisconsin. NIU added guard Georgia Breunig (Sauk Prairie, Wis./ Sauk Prairie), and combo guards/forwards Renee Sladek (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) and Kelly Smith (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead). It is the fourth recruiting class for Head Coach Kathi Bennett at NIU. I m very excited about all three of these players and their addition to our program, Bennett said. All three of these players understand the game of basketball and have a high basketball IQ, so we re excited have them next season. WELCOME BACK Redshirt junior Danny Pulliam returned to the Northern Illinois squad Friday at Green Bay after only appearing in seven contests during due to complications from a meniscus tear and microfracture surgery in that only allowed her to play in five games that season. In 26 minutes off the bench at Green Bay, the point guard from Indianapolis, Ind. accounted for four assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block. In her seven games last season, Pulliam accounted for almost 20 percent of NIU s assists when she was on the floor. BACK IN HER COMFORT ZONE After spending time the last two seasons at point guard, junior Amanda Corral is back at her natural position of shooting guard. Injuries at various points over the last two seasons forced Corral to run the point. Despite being out of position, she averaged 12.7 points per game and 2.1 assists per game in AN ALL AROUND PLAYER Amanda Corral led the Huskies in points, rebounds and assists per game last season, only one-of-two players in the Mid-American Conference last season to do so and is the only returning player in the MAC to accomplish that feat in She averaged 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.1 helpers per game. Kent State s Tamzin Barroilhet also led her team in the aforementioned categories last season. DUMOULIN S IMPACT OFF THE BENCH Junior Natecia Augusta started in the post for the Huskies in the opener at Green Bay, but unfortunately found herself in foul trouble early in the game, and eventually, fouled out of the contest in the second half. Classmate Alex Dumoulin stepped in for Augusta in the post and collected eight points, three rebounds, two steals and one block in the effort. What makes her performance so remarkable was the fact that she had only practiced on Thursday that week as she had just been cleared for practice due to a hand injury, suffered early during the preseason. In six games, she has averaged 4.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in the post, providing quality minutes for other posts players to take a breather. MEET ALEX DUMOULIN Junior transfer Alex Dumoulin is used to being a member of a team as she is one of 10 children in her family, six girls and four boys. Dumoulin grew up playing basketball with her siblings and other children that worked on the family farm in Hampshire, Ill. The forward was an all-american at Elgin Community College and grew up playing on the same team with her older sister, Cassie, who also played basketball at Elgin and was an all-american. She went on to play at Illinois. HUSKIES ON THE DEFENSIVE Despite their 7-23 record in , the Huskies and their famed pack defense were fourth in the MAC last season in scoring defense as NIU allowed 59.5 points per game. A TRANSFORMATION IN THE POST Junior Natecia Augusta made big strides last season in her game, improving her scoring from 3.9 points as a freshman to 6.2 points as a sophomore. After a busy summer in the weight room to improve her strength and fitness, Augusta will be looked upon to take bigger role in the post in HOT AUGUSTA NIGHTS Last season, Natecia Augusta led the Huskies in field goal percentage with a clip of.528 on 127 total shots. Not only strong from the field, the then-sophomore also produced at the free throw line with a.789 mark. She twice went eighth-for-eight at the charity stripe last season, and also produced eight flawless games from the line. She scored six times in the post versus Lewis in exhibition play, closing the day with 13 points. WELCOMED ADDITIONS Over the summer, the Huskies added two new assistant coaches in Debbie Whitman and Latrell Fleming. Whitman, a member of the Northern Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame, was promoted to assistant status after spending last season as the team s Director of Basketball Operations. Fleming came to NIU after spending a year at UW-Milwaukee. Also new in is Graduate Assistant Anya Covington, who played four seasons at Wisconsin, her last two as team captain, before playing a year in Germany for the Rhein Main Baskets. THORP - A JACK OF ALL TRADES Over the last three seasons in the Northern Illinois program, redshirt junior Jenna Thorp has developed into a do it all forward for the Huskies. After averaging 4.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in , Thorp improved her numbers last season to

points and 4.8 rebounds per game. The Hinckley native doubled her assist output as well, increasing from 22 helpers to 53. She also became a threat behind the three point line, shooting 15-for- 44 (.341) in , compared to 2-for-6 (.333) as a freshman.
