Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. The Teams WTAMU is 2-5 overall and 1-2 in LSC South action, after snapping a 24-game LSC losing skid with a victory over Texas A&M University- Commerce on Saturday. Junior quarterback Derek Maupin established a new LSC and WTAMU record with 43 completions, and tied another LSC record for total offensive plays with 73, as he finished for 436 yards and three TDs, along with nine rushes for 11 yards. TAMUK is 5-1 on the year and 2-0 in LSC South play. The Javelinas, who are ranked No. 5 in the AFCA Top 25 Poll {See page 5 for complete poll} have won five-straight since losing to I-AA Portland State in their season-opener. Saturday, TAMUK routed Northeastern State, 42-13, scoring 21 second-quarter points to pull away from a 7-7 tie. Daniel Taylor was passing for 307 yards and a TD. The Coaches Ronnie Jones (Northwestern Oklahoma State, 1978), is in his second season at the helm of the Buffs. Jones has a three-year career record of 8-20 (.286), after spending one season directing the Ottawa (Kan.) University program. Jones has 25 years of coach ing ex pe ri ence at the NCAA Di vi sion I level and in the National Foot ball League. Jones is 0-1 vs. TAMU-Kingsville. He has been a part of sev en col le giate con fer ence cham pi on ships, one Rose Bowl cham pi on ship and two Na tion al Foot ball League di vi sion ti tles. He has coached teams that have made four NFL play off ap pear anc es. The Javelinas are directed by Richard Cundiff (Lincoln Memorial, Tenn.), who is in his fourth season leading the TAMUK program. Cundiff has a (.683) record. Last year, Cundiff led the Javelinas to the LSC title and a trip to the national semifinals. WTAMU At Kimbrough The Buffs are (.517) at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium, the second-largest football facility in NCAA-II for seating capacity (20,000). Kimbrough, which was built in 1959, had a synthetic surface installed over the summer. WTAMU is 1-2 at home this season, and 1-8 at home under Jones.

2 Javelinas and Buffaloes Series TAMUK and WTAMU first met in 1939, playing to a scoreless tie. The Javelinas have won 11 of the last 12 meetings. TAMUK has won the last two meetings (by an average of 41-12), including 49-7 last year at Kingsville, Texas. Last Year: TAMUK 49, WTAMU 7 - Oct. 26 at Kingsville, Texas The Buffs traveled to Texas A&M-Kingsville to take on the Javelinas, who were nationally-ranked in the top ten. The home team swept to a 28-0 lead in the first half before WTAMU s Dominique Bibben slashed to an 86-yard TD run, but Kingsville scored with 19 seconds left in the first half for a 35-7 halftime lead. They added two touchdowns in the third quarter. For the game Kingsville racked up 595 total yards to WT s 192. The Buffs had just two turnovers compared to three for the Javs. Bibben ran 6 times for 105 yards. Derek Maupin was 10 of 24 passing for 70 yards with one interception and three sacks. Kingsville s Larry Williams scored on TD runs of 75, 14, and 51 yards and piled up 194 yards on just eight carries. QB Abel Gonzalez ran five times for 96 yards and was 7 of 12 passing for 141 yards and three TD s. Linebacker Chaun Thompson had 11 tackles and forced two fumbles. The WTAMU Buffaloes WTAMU is second in pass offense in the LSC and 20th in NCAA-II statistics with ypg. The Buffs are also third in the conference and 33rd in total offense (403.3 ypg). WTAMU is seventh in the league in scoring (24.0 ppg). Junior quarterback Derek Maupin (6-3, 205, Canadian, Texas) leads the Buffalo offense, completing passes (59.9 pct) for 1,846 yards (263.7 ypg) and 11 TDs on the season, but has thrown 10 interceptions. He also has 199 yards rushing and one TD. In Saturday s game, Maupin established a new LSC and WTAMU record with 43 completions, and tied another LSC record for total offensive plays with 73, as he finished for 436 yards and three TDs, along with nine rushes for 11 yards. Maupin leads the LSC and is 10th in NCAA-II in total offense (292.1 ypg). He is second in the conference in passing avg/game (263.7 ypg). Junior wideout Anthony Armstrong (6-0, 180, Carrollton, Texas) had a fieldday Saturday, with a career-high 10 catches for 179 yards and a TD. On the season, Armstrong has 28 catches for 350 yards (12.5 ypc/50.0 ypg) and two TDs. Freshman wideout Canelius Jackson (6-2, 195, Childress, Texas) leads the team with 33 receptions for 401 yards (12.2 ypc/66.8 ypg), ranking second in the league in receptions per game and sixth in receiving yards per game. Jackson missed the TAMU-Commerce game, but in the loss to MSU, Jackson had 13 receptions for 97 yards, two catches short of tying a schoolrecord for receptions. Redshirt-freshman Cheyenne Smith (5-8, 175, Roscoe, Texas) has 28 catches for 314 yards (11.2 ypc/44.9 ypg). Smith ranks 10th in the league for receptions per game. Saturday, Smith caught six passes for 47 yards. Both Smith and Jackson each have a catch-and-run for a touchdown of over 60 yards on the year, with Jackson tallying two. Junior tailback Aubrey Lacy (5-9, 180, Center, Texas) has 79 carries for 549 yards (6.9 ypc/91.5 ypg) and five TDs on the season, before suffering an injury in the loss to Midwestern State. Lacy is third in the conference in rushing. He also is seventh in the league in all purpose yards. Lacy was named LSC South Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 21, following his 14-carry, 174-yard and two TD performance vs. UCO, including an 83-yard run in which he broke several tackles and outran the UCO defense to the endzone. Lacy has three 100-yard rushing games so far this season, compared to one last year, which was in the last game of the season. Junior punter Chad Kennedy (6-4, 225, Amarillo, Texas) is second in the LSC and third in the country in punting with a 43.8 avg. He booted five punts for a 41.4 avg on Saturday, pinning one inside the 20. Kennedy, whose career-long is 80 yards, nailed an LSC season-long 76-yarder against Midwestern State. 3 Sophomore kicker Jacob Felton (6-0, 200, Amarillo, Texas) is sixth in the conference in extra point percentage (19-20, 95.0 pct.) and is third in field goals (7-10). Felton is 27th in the country in field goals per game (1.0). He also is 10th in the league in scoring (40 pts/5.7 ppg). On Saturday, Felton kicked three field goals. Felton established a new career-long by booting a 52-yarder against MSU. On defense, the Buffs are led by junior linebacker Adam Shaw (6-2, 225, Cooper, Texas), who leads the team and the LSC with 74 tackles (34 solo), including seven and a half tackles for loss and three sacks. Shaw also has one forced fumble, one blocked kick and a quarterback hurry on the year. He recorded 11 tackles (two solo) on Saturday, with two TFLs and one and half sacks. Shaw ranks 16th in the country in tackles. Sophomore linebacker Chad Webster (6-1, 215, Odessa, Texas) is second in the conference in tackles for loss with 11.5, which is 34th in NCAA-II. On the season, Webster has tallied 57 tackles (22 solos), with an additional two and a half sacks. Webster is 13th in the LSC in tackles. Sophomore defensive lineman Darrell Lewis (6-0, 225, Muleshoe, Texas) leads the conference with six sacks, which ranks 20th in NCAA- II. Lewis has 36 tackles (15 solo) on the season, and is tied for fourth in the LSC with 10 tackles for loss. Senior linebacker Adam St. Clair (6-3, 245, Lazbuddie, Texas), is third on the team in tackles with 42 (19 solos), with four and a half TFLs, half a sack, two QB hurries and one fumble recovery. Freshman Jason Jones (5-9, 170, Killeen, Texas) leads the league in kick returns, with a 24.5 ypr avg. Jones has a season-long of 63 yards. Buff Bits WTAMU has had four scoring plays of 60+ so far this season... last year the Buffs had two all season. Junior quarterback Derek Maupin has five-straight 200-yard games, and seven in his last eight games, dating back to last year s season-finale. The one game he didn t reach the 200-yard mark, was when he threw for 196 yards in a loss to Southwestern Oklahoma back on Sept. 6. Maupin eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the season last Saturday, in his fifth start of the year. Last season, he didn t reach the one grand mark until his seventh start and the team s ninth game of the year, vs.tarleton State on Nov. 2. Sophomore place-kicker Jacob Felton has already made more PATs this season (19-20) through five games than all of last season (14-15). WTAMU s defense has been bitten by the big play bug, as they have given up 12 scoring plays of over 30 yards. WTAMU has been outscored in the first half, but have outscored its opponents in the second half. The TAMUK Javelinas TAMUK is 5-1 on the year and 2-0 in LSC South play. The Javelinas have won five-straight since losing to I-AA Portland State in their season-opener. Saturday, TAMUK routed Northeastern State, 42-13, scoring 21 second-quarter points to pull away from a 7-7 tie. Offensively, TAMU-Kingsville is ranked third in the LSC for scoring offense (28.8 ppg), fourth in total offense (367.8 ypg), third in rushing offense (179.3 ypg) and sixth in passing offense (188.5 ypg). Junior quarterback Daniel Taylor (6-1, 210) is the starting quarterback for the Javelinas and is for 1,111 yards, with 10 TDs. Taylor averages yds/g and is second in the league and seventh in NCAA-II statistics in passing efficiency (160.7), fifth in the LSC on passing avg/game (185.2 yds), and sixth in total offense (199.0 ypg). In the Javelinas last game, Taylor was for 307 yards, and one TD. Senior running back Larry Williams (5-9, 208) is the next big offensive threat on Kingsville for he has 149 carries for 727 yards. 4 liams averages a league-leading ypg, which ranks 15th in the country. He also has eight touchdowns, three coming last week against Northeastern State. In that game, Williams also had 19 rushes for 75 yards, a 3.9 ypc average. Williams is also second in scoring in the conference and 24th in the nation with 54 points, third in the league all-purpose yards with 756 yards, ypg. Williams also is 10th in the total offense category. Junior wide receiver Errick Lewis (5-10, 190) leads the Javelinas in receptions as well as ranking seventh in the LSC in receptions per game with 25 catches for 13.7 ypc, a total of 342 yards, three TDs, and 4.17 rpg. Lewis is also eighth in the LSC in receiving yards per game with an average of 57.0 ypg. His longest catch on of the year was 56 yards. In Saturday s game against the Redmen, Lewis had two catches for 55 yards, no touchdowns and the longest catch of the game, 49 yards. He leads Kingsville in receiving and fourth in scoring with 18 points. Defensively, the Javelinas are ranked second in the LSC and 24th in the nation for total defense (280.8 ypg), fourth in passing defense (173.5 ypg), fourth in the league and 31st in the country in rushing defense (107.3 ypg), and sixth in scoring defense (19.7 ypg). They also are ranked third in the LSC in sacks with 16 for 139 yards. TAMU-Kingsville has allowed their opponent to score 20 points in the last two games, while producing at least three touchdowns per game for themselves. Senior linebacker Kenneth Benoit (5-11, 231) is 11th in the LSC for tackles with 52 tackles (25 solo). Benoit is also fifth in the LSC and 28th in the country for fumbles forced with a total of two. In the game against Northeastern State, Benoit had 10 tackles (three solos). Senior defensive back Eddie Moten (5-10, 180) leads the Javelinas and is ninth in the LSC for interceptions with two. Last Saturday, Moten had one interception, and recorded two assisted tackles. Junior defensive back Donnell Jury (6-2, 175) is second on the team with tackles 43 tackles (21 solo). Last Saturday against the Redmen, Jury had four assists. Junior wide receiver Vincent Ogleby (5-9, 180) is second in the LSC for punt return average with 16 returns for 212 yards and an average of 13.2 ypr. Ogleby also leads the team in returns with his longest return being 70 yards. Sophomore kicker Richard Hammond (6-1, 200) is seventh in the LSC for field goals with four field goals on eight field goal attempts, percentage of 50.0, and a 0.67 fg/g. Hammond is also seventh in field goal percentage (50.0 pct), third in PAT kicking percentage with made, giving him a 95.5 pct, and is fifth in total scoring (kicking). Senior punter Clayton Knellinger (5-10, 175) is second in the LSC and 10th in the country for punting with 22 punts for a 42.9 average, and a longest punt of 56 yds. Last Saturday, Knellinger had five punts for a 43.0 avg, with a longest punt of 50 yds. TAMU-Kingsville is ranked fifth in the LSC for punt returns with an average of 11.6 yards and 232 total yards and first in punting with 22 punts for 943 yds with a net punt of The Javelinas are eighth in the LSC for kickoff returns with 16 returns for 277 yards, no touchdowns, and an average of 17.3 yards per return. 5 Last Game: WTAMU 30, TAMUC 17 (Oct. 18, 2003) The West Texas A&M University football team snapped several streaks and set a Lone Star Conference in the process, in defeating Texas A&M-Commerce, 30-17, Saturday, the Buffs first victory over a conference opponent in 25 games. WTAMU had lost its previous 24 games to LSC opponents, but junior quarterback Derek Maupin made sure that the Buffs didn t lose their 25th, as he set a school and an LSC record with 43 pass completions. Maupin finished the game for 439 yards and three TDs. He broke Tod Mayfield s 42 completions vs. Indiana State in 1985 for the school-record and Luke Cullins from Harding s 42 completions vs. Central Oklahoma in 1999 for the conference-record. The win also snapped a 12-game losing skid on the road for the Buffs, who hadn t won on the road since a victory over Western New Mexico on Sept. 8, It was also WTAMU s first win at Commerce in its last six trips, dating back to The Buffs are now 2-9 alltime at Commerce and 8-13 vs. the Lions overall. Saturday the Buffs got on top with a two-yard pass from Maupin to sophomore running back Dominique Bibben, filling in for injured tailback Aubrey Lacy, to put WTAMU up 7-0 with 49 seconds left in the first quarter. Sophomore kicker Jacob Felton added two field goals in the second quarter and TAMUC got on the board with a field goal with 11 ticks left in the first half, to make the score 13-3 at halftime. The Buffs erupted out of the lockerroom, scoring 17 unanswered points, starting with a 41-yard field goal from Felton. WTAMU followed that score up with a 38-yard scoring strike from Maupin to junior wideout Anthony Armstrong with 11:18 left in the third stanza, after junior defensive back Dominique Carter intercepted a Lion pass at the TAMUC 38. Armstrong finished the game with a career-high 10 receptions for 179 yards. The Buffs struck again when Maupin hit senior wideout Ray Reece for a 12-yard TD to put WTAMU up 30-3 with 7:17 remaining in the third quarter. TAMU-Commerce scored with 7:28 left in the fourth quarter on a nine-yard run from Beau Dodson, and drew to with 1:21 to play on a seven-yard run from Miles Durham. However, WTAMU recovered the ensuing onside kick and ate up the clock to claim the victory. In all, Maupin hit 10 different receivers in the game, and nine of them had more than one catch. Junior linebacker Adam Shaw led the Buffs defense with 11 tackles, including two tackles for loss and one and a half sacks. The WTAMU defense harassed the TAMUC offense all afternoon, logging six tackles for loss and registering four sacks and snaring two interceptions.
