Sky divers are scheduled to gilde in on Friday for a special presentation at Memorial Stadium and end with a fly over while the A&M-Commerce band plays the national anthem on Saturday. Around the Lone Star Angelo State beat West Texas A&M at its own game on Saturday as the Rams outscored the Buffaloes, 58-53, to force a tie atop the Lone Star Conference standings heading into the season s final two weeks. WTAMU has become known as the LSC s most prolific offensive team this season, but on Saturday it was Angelo State that racked up 748 total yards and eight touchdowns, including four from 47 or more yards away. In a game that featured 10 lead changes -- four in the final 6:34 -- the Rams passed for 396 yards and rushed for 352 more, becoming the first team this year to match the Buffs blow-for-blow offensively. With the wild win, ASU improved to 8-1 overall, 6-1 in LSC games and 3-1 in South Division play, while No. 7-ranked WTAMU fell to 8-1, 6-1 and 4-1. The game was played before 17,127 fans, marking WT s third 14,000-plus crowd this season. ASU and WTAMU now are tied atop the league standings, while Southeastern Oklahoma, Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Kingsville are all within striking distance at 5-2. The final two weeks of the regular season will see Tarleton get a crack at both leaders, with the Texans set to close out the year against Angelo State this week and West Texas next week. TAMUK plays ASU in the season finale, while Southeastern finishes with 2-6 Central Oklahoma at home and 3-6 East Central on the road. While the Angelo win over WTAMU helped to tighten the LSC race, it wasn t the only game on Saturday that jumbled the conference championship picture. Abilene Christian s 18-7 win over No. 9-ranked Tarleton State put a dent in the Texans hopes for an LSC crown, while TAMUK s win over Eastern New Mexico helped the Javelinas re-enter the fray. Southeastern Oklahoma has won five straight to climb back into the title chase.

3 Last Year In the final game of the 2004 season, the Lions and Buffs combined for a total of 611 passing yards along with 52 points in a span of 25 minutes. A&M-Commerce scored a total of 24 unanswered points in the second quarter to beat the Buffaloes in Canyon, Texas. Quarterbacks Buster Faulkner and Derek Maupin matched touchdown passes early in the second. Defensive back L.J. Searcy recovered a fumble to give the Lions a 14-7 lead. Running back Gideon Leonard punched in from a yard out to give kicker Ha a Bento a school and LSC record of 18 field goals to close the half at Quarterback Derek Maupin directed the Buffs back with drives of 71 and 80 yards to squeeze in for a score. WTAMU came back and threatened the Lions, but defensive tackle Anthony Fields stood in the way, when he recovered a Buffalo fumble for a 45 yard touchdown to give the Lions a edge. The final score for the Lions came on 57 yard pass from Faulkner to current wide receiver Cedric Patt and give A&M-Commerce a win to end the season. Punter Chris Miller ended the season with seven punts for a 49.9 yard average and secured himself in the Lions books as the best punter with the best average in a career. About West Texas A&M After 1,300 yards of offense and 10 lead changes, Angelo State came through and emerged the biggest upset over the Buffaloes Saturday. ASU took the lead for the final time on a 23-yard pass from Trey Weishuhn to Justin Carter, the third time the duo hooked up for a scoring play, with 52 seconds and J.D. Williams hit the PAT for the 10th and final lead change. WTAMU had an opportunity at the end, but junior quarter Dalton Bell s throw into the endzone sailed incomplete as the clock wound down to zero. The Buffaloes took their first loss of theseason in their final home regular season game. Bell went 39-for-51 for 543 yards and five touchdowns. West Texas clinched the LSC South title by Abilene Christian beating Tarleton State 18-7 last Saturday. The Lions then opened up division play on Sept. 24 and tabbed their second win at home. After a posting a 1-1 record from the two road games in the past three weeks, A&M-Commerce continued their win streak at Memorial Stadium with a win over the Redmen. A&M-Commerce is 3-1 at home for the season. The record ranks as one of the best home records posted since the 21st century mark. The best came in 2000 when the Lions went 4-0 at Memorial Stadium, winning all of their home games that season. Under Scotty Conley This is the second season for the Lions under the direction of Scotty Conley. Conley came to A&M-Commerce in January of 2004 and posted a 4-6 record after the Lions ended the 2003 season with a 1-10 record under former head coach Eddie Brister. In three of the six losses in 2004, Conley s squad lost by just three points or less. As A Coach Conley led the Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals to the 1997 National Junior College Athletic Association National Championship. He was named the NJCAA National Coach of the Year and American Football Quarterly Junior College Coach of the Year after directing TVCC to a perfect 12-0 record with a Red River Bowl victory over Garden City (Kan.) With the 2-0 start in conference play, Conley ranks as the third coach in school history to post such a record in his second season as the Lions leader. Other coaches who entered their second season and recorded a 2-0 start in conference action were J.W. Rollins ( ) and Bob Berry ( ; ). The record is also the best conference record that Conley has posted as a head coach at A&M-Commerce. Counting It Down Conley is one win away from reaching 10 wins as a Lions head coach. Currently Conley has nine victories under his belt with 10 wins prior to the end of 2005, he would rank as one of the top five coaches in Lion history to post a total of 10 wins in just two years as a head football coach Coaching Staff Head Coach: Scotty Conley Alma Mater: A&M-Commerce (1970) Overall Record: 4-6, 1 year (32-12, 4 years JC) Record at A&M-Commerce: 4-6 Assistant Coaches Defensive Coordinator: Joe Cauthen Offensive Coordinator: Kevin Goodwin Offensive Line: Russell Gaskamp Defensive Line: Justin Roberts Winding It Down Two games remain in the 2005 season for the Lions. The 3-1 mark in division play ranks as the best divisional record under head coach Scotty Conley and the best since the inception of division play in the Lone Star. The Lions remain in the hunt for a North division title with their divsion mark. Overall in the Lone Star, A&M-Commerce has a 5-3 record.
