Lakeville South Boys Basketball Cougar Nation Varsity Assistant Coach: Troy Sergent November 2015 The 2015-2016 season brings some new faces to our varsity coaching staff.

Some of you may recognize Coach Sergent from his teaching position at McGuire Middle School or from his previous coaching role at Lakeville North.

1 Lakeville South Boys Basketball Cougar Nation Varsity Assistant Coach: Troy Sergent November 2015 The season brings some new faces to our varsity coaching staff. In this edition of our newsletter, we re excited to introduce you to Troy Sergent, Lakeville South s new Varsity Assistant Coach. Some of you may recognize Coach Sergent from his teaching position at McGuire Middle School or from his previous coaching role at Lakeville North. Tell us about the basketball experience you bring to your coaching role at Lakeville South. Coach Sergent: I m in my 26 th year as a boys basketball coach. I have coached at a variety of levels. My first eleven years teaching and coaching were spent in western MN. Four of those seasons were spent as a head boys' basketball coach. 2 continued from page 1 Many are thinking it so we ll just put it on the table! What was it that drew you to the Lakeville South program after being such an integral part of the North program? Coach Sergent: First of all, I had coached against Nick at the 10th grade level for the past couple of seasons and like his coaching style. When he got the head job, he put an offer on the table. It was a tough decision, as my time at North was very enjoyable and the guys I coached with are some of my closest friends. However, I teach at MMS and I really think coaching kids that I've had in the classroom will be a great experience. Also, I'm excited about an opportunity to work with our varsity athletes on a daily basis. It will make home life easier as well. Sheri and the kids will be more patient with me when I'm gone all the time. What are you most excited about for this season? Coach Sergent: The thing that excites me the most is the work ethic of our athletes. They immediately bought into our summer workouts and have worked to get ready for this season. Our non-conference and conference schedule will provide great challenges on a nightly basis. Our kids will get to compete against the best athletes in the state and those opportunities will push them to their limits. We believe our guys are "all-in" when it comes to the TEAM first concept, and that's exciting. What messages would you like to pass along to the youth in our basketball community as the season is kicking off? Coach Sergent: Play hard, play smart, play together, and above all, have fun. This whole deal is a marathon, not a sprint. Respect and listen to your coaches. Make sure you represent South in a positive manner. Good luck! Our players and coaches will be around to watch some of your games too. How do you enjoy spending your time when you're not teaching at McGuire or in the gym? Coach Sergent: My free time is spent with family and I enjoy doing whatever is on the agenda for the day. There's not a lot of free time, but it sure makes the winter fly by. FREE Admission for Kids to ALL Cougar Games! All K-12 ISD 194 students will get in free to all Cougar basketball games this season. When: Monday, November 30 th from 6pm to 8pm Where: Lakeville South High School Performance Gym Who: All Lakeville South Cougar In-house and Travel Players and Families! Watch your favorite high school players compete in 3-point and dunk contests Pick up a varsity team poster AND get autographs! Get your picture taken with your favorite players Participate in on-court drills and activities with the high school players See you there! Rochester Tournament: Hotel Accommodations Once again, travel teams will be heading to Rochester on March 5-6, 2016.

4 Rochester Tournament: Hotel Accommodations Once again, travel teams will be heading to Rochester on March 5-6, Accommodations have been secured at two hotels in the heart of downtown Rochester: The Kahler Grand Hotel and The Rochester Marriott. The hotels are right next to each other and are connected by a skyway. As of the release of this newsletter, the Rochester Marriott rooms have been booked. Remaining rooms are at the Kahler Grand: golf Economy 1 Double Economy 1 King Student Housing w/ 1 Double Rooms are first come, first served. New Feature: Score Ticker If you have visited the LSBBA website homepage lately, you might have noticed the score ticker at the top of the page. This score ticker is pulling game information from each individual team page and displaying it for everyone to see and keep updated. Team managers are responsible for keeping individual team pages updated. We currently have 7 of our 16 teams using this feature. If your team is currently not using the game scheduler feature on your webpage, it is a great way for everyone to keep updated when, where, and what time games are as they get posted to your team calendar and additionally you can keep everyone updated with the scores for those not able to attend.
