2 GRAND THEFT ASHLEY Ashley Deary broke the Big Ten s all-time steals record on Jan. 3 against Ohio State with career steal No. 373 early in the first quarter. She now stands at 408 for her career and owns the top three NU single-season steals records, career record and Big Ten single season record, along with the Big Ten career record. She broke a 16-year-old record previously held by Michigan s Stacey Thomas. Deary is also the nation s current active career steals leader at 408 and leads the category by 70. She ranks fourth in the country this season and first in the Big Ten in steals per game with DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE Nia Coffey registered her 13th double-double of the year on Feb. 13 at Minnesota with 33 points and 10 rebounds. Twice this year, Coffey has posted back-to-back-to-back doubledoubles. Her 13 double-doubles rank second in the Big Ten and 16th in the country. She has 53 for her career, which ranks second among all active players in the NCAA. A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS Northwestern ranks 27th in the country and sixth in the Big Ten in assists per game with 16.8, as the Wildcats have registered at least 20 assists in eight games, including most recently against Ohio State (1/3) and have double-digit assists in 24 of 25 games this year. Ashley Deary leads the Big Ten and ranks 14th nationally in assists per game with 6.5 and is second on the NCAA s active career leader list with 753 career assists. AN HISTORIC CAREER Northwestern head coach Joe McKeown picked up career win No. 650 on Dec. 28 in the Wildcats Big Ten opener at Nebraska. He is now at 655 after the Wildcats beat Wisconsin on Feb of those wins have come at Northwestern during his eight-plus years as head coach. He also has stops at New Mexico State and George Washington. McKeown has a career winning percentage of.681 in 31 seasons as a head coach. RARE COMPANY With 22 points on Jan. 7 at Maryland, Nia Coffey became the fifth Big Ten player to record 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. She now has 2,147 points and 1,134 rebounds, joining an elite group that includes Illinois Jenna Smith ( ), Minnesota s Laura Coenen ( ), and Ohio State s Jessica Davenport ( ) and Jantel Lavender ( ). Coffey also became the 18th student from a Big Ten school (and the first Wildcat) to collect 1,000 career rebounds following her 14-rebound night on Dec. 19 at Gonzaga. REBOUND RECORDS Nia Coffey logged 12 rebounds against Chicago State on Dec. 4 to break the 31-year-old Northwestern all-time rebounds record of 951, previously held by NU great Anucha Browne. Coffey now stands at 1,134 and counting for her career, the first Northwestern player ever to reach 1,000 rebounds. She holds the Northwestern single-season rebound record after pulling down 344 boards last season. Coffey s career number ranks second among all active players, behind only Alaina Coates of South Carolina, who has 1,210. JAMISON S CAREER DAY Sophomore Amber Jamison broke out in a big way on Jan. 17 in the Wildcats win over Michigan State. Jamison, making just her second start of the season, notched career highs in points (22), rebounds (6) and assists (3). She shot 8-of-12 from the field and made a team-high five threepointers in the victory. OH CAPTAIN(S), MY CAPTAIN(S) The Wildcats selected a trio of captains to lead them in the campaign. Senior Nia Coffey is a captain for the second straight season, while classmates Ashley Deary and Christen Inman are first-year captains this year. 1,000-CAREER POINT CLUB Ashley Deary and Lauren Douglas joined the Northwestern 1,000-career point club this year. Deary hit the mark against Oral Roberts on Nov. 13, while Douglas joined the club after scoring nine points against Evansville on Nov. 27. The duo joined Nia Coffey and Christen Inman with 1,000-career points as the four active Wildcats to accomplish the feat. NIA COFFEY ON WOODEN AWARD LATE SEASON TOP 20 LIST Northwestern forward Nia Coffey is among the 20 players on the late season top 20 list for the 2017 John R. Wooden Award, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced on Wednesday. The three-time All-Big Ten first team member is having a stellar senior season, averaging 19.2 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. The Minneapolis, Minn., native has 13 double-doubles on the year while leading Northwestern to a 17-8 record. DEARY NAMED FINALIST FOR 2017 NANCY LIEBERMAN AWARD Senior guard Ashley Deary was named a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which recognizes the top point guard in women s college basketball. She is one of 10 finalists, and the final five will be announced in March. The winner will be announced at the Women s Final Four in Dallas, Texas. The reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year led the country in steals (4.34 spg), and broke Northwestern s alltime career steals record last season with 363 total steals just midway through her junior year. After accumulating 125 steals through 29 games last season, Deary shattered the Big Ten s single-season steals record a league mark that stood for 20 years. She recorded 20 double-digit scoring games during her junior campaign and tallied five double-doubles.
