GONZAGA 79, PRESBYTERIAN 39 GAME SEVEN * DECEMBER 3 * MCCARTHEY ATHLETIC CENTER * SPOKANE SPOKANE, Wash. The (RV) Gonzaga Bulldogs scored 70-plus points for the fifth time this year and won by 40-plus points for the second time as they returned home and beat Presbyterian College, 79-39, on Saturday afternoon. Jill Barta had her second-straight double-double of the season and sixth career with 22 points and 10 rebounds. She led the team in scoring for the fifth-straight game and in rebounds for the third straight. It was her fourth time this year with 20-plus points. It was a team effort from the Zags though, as 10 players scored and 10 grabbed rebounds. Kiara Kudron scored a season-high 12 points and Makenlee Williams added 10 off the bench. The Zags bench outscored the Blue Hose reserves in the game. We did a good job defensively, the team defense was better and we were jumping to the basketball, Gonzaga head coach Lisa Fortier said. We corrected some of our areas that were weak. We still have work to do, we can always communicate better, we can always block out a little better. GU started the game on a 15-4 run with Barta scoring the first nine points. The lead briefly dipped into single digits, but a layup from Barta made it and it never went lower than that again. The Zags dominated almost every statistical category, shooting 50 percent while holding PC to 27 percent, scoring 24 points off 19 Blue Hose turnovers, doubling the rebounds 42-20, getting 17 second-chance points compared to three, and outscoring PC off the bench and in the paint. The Zag offense dished 17 assists, led by four from Kudron and Chandler Smith. Coming off the Virgin Islands trip, we have a little bit of a chip on our shoulder, especially since we dropped some games there, Smith said. Every game is a new game, and I really like how we came out today. The Bulldogs remain at home and will welcome local rival Washington State to The Kennel on Thursday, December 8 at 6 pm. The game is one of five home games scheduled to be televised live locally by SWX. Live stats and live stream available at GoZags.com as well.
