GONZAGA 102, UC Irvine 38 GAME TWO * NOVEMBER 13 * MCCARTHEY ATHLETIC CENTER * SPOKANE SPOKANE, Wash. The Gonzaga Bulldogs moved to 2-0 on Sunday afternoon with a convincing win over UC Irvine at home. The Zags rewrote the record book in the process, breaking the single-game team mark with 15 made threes, snapping the old record of 14 set at UC Riverside on New Year s Eve in It also marked the second-largest margin of victory in program history, the 64-point win ranks just behind the 74-point win over Whitman in The Zags scored 100-points for the first time since they scored 101 against San Francisco in We really wanted to work on our second-half defense and maintain our same level of intensity, and we talked about not coming out the same way we did yesterday, Gonzaga head coach Lisa Fortier said. Today I think we came out great on defense and were flying around. Makenlee Williams had by far her best game in a GU uniform, scoring 20 points on six-of-nine shooting from behind the mark. Zykera Rice set career-highs in points, 16, rebounds, 10, and blocks, four. Kiara Kudron tied a career mark with 13 rebounds and added nine points. Jill Barta scored 15 points and added eight rebounds. I had to keep shooting and it paid off, Williams said. It felt really good and I felt like I was back to myself, in that zone, in that rhythm. It was fun to be out there and everybody played well, it was a good team win. The Zags dominated the first quarter for the second-straight day, leading 25-4 after one and scoring 25, 25, 26, and 26 in the quarters. The Zags dished out 25 assists, notching 20-plus assists for the second-straight day, as Laura Stockton had six, and Jessie Loera and Chandler Smith had five each. The Zags had nine blocks and seven steals, and outscored the Anteaters off the bench, The Zags finished the game on a strong 8-1 run to eclipse the 100-point mark.
