(2nd) DEFENSE: - The Bulldogs made it 11-straight wins and defense led the way again on Thursday night as they defeated Portland, 75-36, at home. - That defense forced 19 turnovers, one short of the third-straight 20+ turnover game for GU. It turned into 27 points off turnovers and 13 steals - Offensively, Jill Barta was fantastic for GU, hitting eight-of-her-12 shots for 21 points and a team-leading seven rebounds. Zykera Rice, 13, and Jessie Loera, 10, joined her in double figures, both shooting above 50 percent from the field themselves. - The 36 points allowed against Portland is the lowest total allowed this season and the lowest since gave up 24 at Portland in 2014, the school record for lowest points allowed in a game. It was the largest margin of victory in a WCC game under coach Fortier. - Emma Stach moved into 10th place all-time at GU with her 117th made three. NOW IT GETS FUN: - The Zags have started WCC play with a 9-0 record just four times prior in their history, most recently in In three of those cases the Zags went undefeated in conference play at 14-0, prior to BYU and Pacific joining the West Coast Conference. - The Zags started 15-0 in head coach Lisa Fortier s first season in GU started the WCC season 9-0 in and SERIES HISTORY: - The Zags lead the all-time series and are all-time in San Francisco. - The Zags faced USF just two weeks ago in Spokane. GU won that game 74-47, as the Zags led in 15 of the 16 statistical categories, and had control of the game after three quarters. Jessie Loera led the Zags with a career-high 15 points on six-of-eight shooting, and added a career-high nine assists to lead GU as well. She added four steals and was two-of-two from three, matching her career-high with five rebounds. - GU s loss in San Francisco in 2016 ended a 21-game win streak in the series the Zags had been on. Over the past six meetings, GU is 4-2 including a dominating win over USF in the West Coast Conference Tournament Semifinals last year. GU is on a two-game skid in USF, as last year the Dons hit a three with 1:37 left to capture a lead they would not relinquish, and fell The Zags did not hit a three pointer for the first time that season, and Jill Barta had her ninth game with 20+ points on the season, leading all scorers with Dating back to 2003, has won 30 of the last 35 games. Prior to the last two games, GU had won 12-straight games in San Francisco dating back to The best game of the series, and one of the best in history, was a four-overtime win on February 7, 2015 in Spokane. The game featured 21 lead changes and 14 ties. The game lasted two hours and 50 minutes with four overtime periods. The four overtimes were the most in WCC history during league play, and it was also the longest game this season at any level of women s college basketball. Keani Albanez led all scorers with 20 points on 6-of-18 shooting from the field. Sunny Greinacher added 19 points and three blocks. - San Francisco had the majority of their success in the series in the 1990 s, winning nine straight from and eight straight at home from SCOUTING THE DONS: - The Dons had been on a run when they came to Spokane two weeks ago, but dropped that contest and after beating Santa Clara, were upset by Pepperdine in double overtime, with all games coming on the road. On Thursday they won at Pacific to move to 5-4 in conference. - Four Dons average double-figures with Anna Seilund leading the way at 15.4 per game, joined by Michaela Rakova, 12.9 per game, Shannon Powell, 10.2 per game, and Kalyn Simon at 10.2 per game. Seilund had a career-high 36 points against Portland. - Rakova leads them on the glass at 9.7 rebounds per game. - The Dons lead the WCC in threes per game at 6.6 and defensive rebounds per game at In conference games only, USF ranks first in three-point field goals made (six per game). - Molly Goodenbour, a two-time national champion at Stanford, is in her second year leading the Dons. She finished her first year on the Hilltop in with an overall record that included an 11-7 mark in West Coast Conference play, good for a fourthplace finish, the Dons highest since the season. This year, she became the winningest coach in USF history through 50 games at GIVE ME THAT: - Over the past three games, GU forced 64 turnovers for 37 steals. That is the most turnovers forced in a three-game stretch since they did the same at Saint Mary s and home against Santa Clara and Portland last season, forcing 70 in those three games. - GU forced 23 against Portland State earlier this year, the season high they matched against Santa Clara. EFFECTIVE: - Against Santa Clara, Zykera Rice and Jill Barta both shot 70 percent from the field taking 10 shots each (7-10). - The first time since, Sunny Greinacher went 9-for-11 and Lindsay Sherbert went 7-for-10 against UC Riverside at home in PROBABLE STARTING LINEUP Pos. 2 NCAA TEAM OF THE WEEK: - earned NCAA.com Team of the Week honors this week for their 11-game winning streak. ICE, ICE, GAME, BABY: - has been impressive sealing games from the line this year. In 2004 it was Ashley Anderson (10 pts & 10 rebs), Ashley Burke (22 pts & 12 rebs), and Raeanna Jewell (15 pts & 13 rebs) who achieved the feat. - Barta s eight rank first in the West Coast Conference and 48th in the nation, and has 15 doubledoubles in her career. Smith has three double-doubles this year. WHATEVER IT TAKES: - The Zags know conference road wins are about survival, and they have done what it takes to start 4-0 on the road in WCC play. GU has still scored 76.2 points per game and shot 45 percent from the field, but have also maintained a healthy +6 rebounding advantage, committed less turnovers than their opponent, averaged 9.8 steals per game, and shot 78.1 percent from the foul line. - In front of the Zag fans in Spokane in conference action, GU has been impressive in style points in their five wins. They are winning by 25 points per game, a nine-point jump from on the road. GU also has a turnover margin of 7.6, 3.8 per game higher than on the road and they average three more steals per game and one more block per game than away from Spokane STREAKING: - started this 11-game winning streak in 2017 that has now extended to The winning streak is the fifth-longest active streak in the country. - During the streak, GU has outscored their opponent by 20.4 points per game with a +8.7 rebounds per game advantage. - GU is shooting 46 percent and holding their opponent to 35.4 percent from the field. - averages over four more assists per game than their opponent, and Jill Barta (16.6), Zykera Rice (13.7), average double figures with Chandler Smith at 9.8 per game. - All totaled, nine Zags are averaging over four points per game and two rebounds per game, including freshman Zags Jenn Wirth, LeeAnne Wirth, and Jill Townsend The conference-opener win at Pacific marked the 300th WCC win for GU in program history, the first WCC school to achieve that feat. Saint Mary s was second with 273.
