The regular season title is the program s 5th in the last 32 seasons and the fourth in the last seven years. UA s 5 titles in the last 32 seasons are six more than the next team in that time period, which is UCLA with nine conference championships. The Wildcats ended the regular season with a 736 win over Arizona State in Tempe. Allonzo Trier scored a gamehigh 9 points in the Arizona victory. Trier was supported by freshman Rawle Alkins who tallied his second doubledouble of the season with points and 5 rebounds versus the Sun Devils. UA held ASU to just 28.6 percent shooting from the field in the second half and outscored the Sun Devils 433 in the second frame to earn the victory. Allonzo Trier closed out the regular season on a strong note. He averaged 23.3 points per game in his team s final four conference games while shooting 59.2 percent from the field, 52.2 percent from deep and 82. percent from the free throw line. The fourgame stretch also includes Trier eclipsing the 2point mark in three consecutive games for the first time in his college career. UA is the alltime winningest program in the history of the Pac2 Tournament with the most conference tournament wins (27) and championships (five) in the 9year history of the conference of champions tournament. Rawle Alkins grabbed 5 rebounds in the win over ASU, which were the most by a UA guard in the Sean Miller era of 29 to present. Alkins also became the first UA guard to post multiple doubledoubles in the same season since Hassan Adams recorded four doubledoubles during the 245 season. Heading into Las Vegas, Arizona will carry over 2 wins in its last 23 games overall. The Wildcats are one of just five teams in the nation to end the regular season with one or fewer losses in true road games, joining Gonzaga (9), Kansas (), St. Mary s () and Wichita State (). Both marks were among the best in school history since joining the Pac2 Conference prior to the season. Best Pac2 Records Best Pac2 Road Records MARKKANEN EARNS HEAPS OF NATIONAL PRAISE Lauri Markkanen received a trio of AllAmerican honors this week. The 7footer from Finland was named a Third Team All American by the Sporting News, USA Today and NBC Sports. Markkanen was also selected to the USBWA AllDistrict Team. FREE THROW EFFICIENCY The 267 edition of the Arizona Wildcats finished the regular season leading the Pac2 in free throw percentage in all games at 76.5 percent. In Miller s eight seasons in the Pac2, only one conference team has shot a better percentage at the foul line. The 234 Oregon Ducks shot 77.2 percent at the free throw line. If the team s current free throw efficiency holds, UA would shoot over 75. percent at the charity stripe for the season for just the third time in program history. Arizona s best free throw shooting seasons came in 234 and 245 when the team shot 78.6 percent and 77.6 percent respectively. ROAD WARRIORS In addition to holding one of the highest home court winning percentages in the nation, Arizona has shown a knack for continuing its winning ways outside of Tucson. Since Sean Miller s arrival prior to the 29 season, the Wildcats have posted a record of 9252 (.639) away from McKale Center. That mark improves to 362 (.643) at neutral site locations. UA s records in the last threeplus seasons are 522 (.722) outside of Tucson and 28 (.724) in neutral sites. BRINGING THE CROWD ON THE ROAD UA s unrelenting crowd support inside McKale Center, as the Pac2 leader in attendance for 32 consecutive seasons, has also extended outside of Tucson. In the 245 and 256 seasons, attendance at Arizona s away games in Pac2 play increased at least 48. percent over season averages prior to playing the Wildcats. The 267 has continued the trend of Arizona being the big ticket wherever it goes. After shooting 5 of 29 (.72) from deep in his first 3 games this season, the junior is 8 of 27 (.667) from beyond the arc in his last 2 appearances. JacksonCartwright led the Pac2 in conference play in threepoint field goal percentage as a sophomore, shooting 8 of 37 (.486). The point guard mimicked those numbers as a junior, shooting exactly 8 of 37 (.486) again from beyond the arc in conference play. ARIZONA IN THE LAST SIX SEASONS While Sean Miller and Co. arrived in Tucson for the 29 season, the 2 campaign effectively marks the beginning of the Miller Era. Six years ago, the Wildcats claimed their first conference championship under Miller and made a run to the Elite Eight that ended at the hands of eventual national champion Connecticut. While UA has led the nation in wins in the during parts of the last three seasons, the last six seasons of Arizona hoops have been among the best in the nation as well. Deandre Ayton (Phoenix, Ariz.), Alex Barcello (Phoenix, Ariz.), Ira Lee (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Brandon Randolph (Yonkers, N.Y.) give Arizona another top recruiting class in the nation. Deandre Ayton 7 25 lbs. Center Phoenix, Ariz. Coach Sean Miller on Ayton: I m not going to sugarcoat it, Deandre is one of these once in a generation types of players. He s big, seven feet (tall). The fact that he hasn t lifted weights is astonishing to me because when you shake his hand, he has a physical presence as a young person that you don t often times see. One thing I m really excited for sure is to plug him into our strength and conditioning program, which is a real part of our program. The thing that impresses me about Deandre as a player is that he is really smart. He has the knowhow to play with four other players that not a lot of big guys have. He can pass, he can step away from the basket and dribble the ball, and he s a really skilled player. *Widely considered to be the top prospect in the nation in the 27 recruiting class *Became the first overall No. recruit to commit to a Pac2 school since 27 *Named to Naismith Trophy Watch List as top prep player in the nation. Alex Barcello lbs. Guard Phoenix, Ariz. Coach Miller on Barcello: Alex is a point guard from Phoenix and an incredible student. He has the makings to be an incredible leader, and has some characteristics of T.J. McConnell that we ve grown to love. I think that he has a fire inside of him, a toughness, and a love of the game that at that position you love to have. We are really elated to have him. Alex is not small, he s 6, 62 and has a good build to him. Another thing we love about Alex, in addition to his playmaking skills, is that he can really shoot the three Being from Phoenix is nice for his family. He has already won several state championships, and winning is a real part of his background. *ESPN Top member and rated No. 2 player in Arizona behind Deandre Ayton *Helped guide Corona del Sol to backtoback state championships *24 Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year Ira Lee lbs. Forward Los Angeles, Calif. Coach Miller on Lee: Ira Lee is the one we ve probably been with the longest in terms of our recruiting efforts. We identified Ira a long time ago and offered him a scholarship early on in his high school career. He s a guy with a high motor, plays the game with tremendous energy, and he s involved in so many different plays on both offense and defense. From a defensive perspective he has a chance to be great. Ira has the type of size and athleticism, but mostly the mindset of toughness that we really love. He s also a versatile player where he can play more than one position. He gives us versatility in that regard because you can play him in many different combinations, he s not a one position type player. *Member of ESPN Top and rated in top ten nationally at his position *Rated as a top ten power forward by Scout.com *Son of Zeph Lee, former running back and defensive back with the Los Angeles Raiders Brandon Randolph lbs. Guard Yonkers, N.Y. Coach Miller on Randolph: Brandon, like Alex (Barcello), is an exceptional shooter. Not a small two guard, he s around 6 5, 6 6. When you have that type of frame, strength and conditioning can give you additional skills that you may not have right now. He s got a great frame, but where his body will go over the next couple of years, it s exciting to think about. He s more than just a shooter, he s a basketball player, really knows how to pass the ball. He plays on one of the best high school teams in the country, and that winning environment on both the travel circuit as well as a highly completive high school. He s a highcharacter kid, tremendous student and comes from a great family. *Rated in ESPN Top nationally and as a top five instate prospect *Ranked as a top ten shooting guard nationally by Scout.com *Averaged 6 points per game in Nike EYBL summer circuit with 39 percent shooting from deep WHEN FACING THEM AGAIN Since the arrival of Sean Miller to Tucson prior to the 29 season, Arizona has faced an opponent for a second time in the same season on 6 occasions and three times in the same season on 2 occasions. The Wildcats are 437 (.77) when facing an opponent for a second time in the same season and 84 (.667) when facing an opponent for the third time. In the long, prestigious line of distinguished players at the University of Arizona, Bob Elliott is perhaps the catalyst of this great history. An AllAmerican twice in his career with the Wildcats during the mid97s, he is still in the top three in program history in career points, rebounds and free throws and remains the only Wildcat to score over 2, points and grab, rebounds in a career. Elliott averaged 23.3 points per game his sophomore season of 97475, a mark that has only been eclipsed once in the 4 years since. Elliott helped guide the Wildcats to an 8629 mark during his career, including the program s firstever Elite Eight appearance in the 976 NCAA Tournament. Elliott s greatness also extended to the classroom where he was a threetime Academic AllAmerica selection while receiving his conference s scholarathlete award as a senior. After graduation, Elliott was a second round selection of the Philadelphia 76ers in the 977 NBA Draft. His professional career expanded throughout the NBA, CBA and overseas. THE SEAN MILLER ERA IN THE PAC2 The 267 season marks the eighth season of Arizona Basketball under the direction of head coach Sean Miller. Here s an indepth look at Arizona s record against the rest of the conference of champions since the start of Pac2 play in 29. Sean Miller era Cats have now inked $29 million in NBA contracts since his arrival in Tucson prior to the 29 season. Arizona also boasts six former players who have each earned in excess of $ million in NBA deals, including Gilbert Arenas, Mike Bibby, Andre Iguodala, Richard Jefferson, Damon Stoudamire and Jason Terry. Arizona products have signed for over $58 million in NBA contracts for the 267 season alone. MCKALE CENTER DOING WHAT IT ALWAYS DOES With a conferenceleading average home crowd of 4,4, Arizona and its beloved McKale Center have now led the Pac2 in attendance for a 33rd consecutive season. UA s average home crowd was nearly 2, people larger than second place Utah. The 4,4 average for the 267 season ranks 5th nationally and accounts for 98.4 percent capacity for the season.
