CSUB forced 3 Beaver turnovers, converting them into 3 points. Senior Phynique Allen added points while freshman Amber Williams scored 0. Despite never trailing the entire second half, the Roadrunners were never comfortable as OSU tied the game with 3:6 remaining. But the Beavers would not score the rest of the way as Allen hit a layup and Amber Williams hit a free throw to give the game to the Runners. Pac 0 Woes No More With Tuesday s victory over Oregon State, the Roadrunners picked up their first win over a Pac 0 opponent. CSUB is now 3 all time against the BCS conference members. Women s basketball now joins men s soccer and wrestling as the only two CSUB programs to defeat a Pac 0 opponent. Pesky Anteaters A fast UC Irvine start almost led the an upset at the Icardo Center the last time these two programs met back on Nov. 3, 009. The Anteaters jumped out to an early seven point first half lead before CSUB eventually took the lead late in the half and held it through the second. Irvine would stick around, however, and shaved the Roadrunner lead down to one point midway through the second half. UCI would score seven of the game s final nine points but Katie Williams free throws with six second remaining gave CSUB a 77 7 lead and iced the game. Lauren Spinazze hit a three as time expired. Phynique Allen led the way with 7 points. Irvine s Kim Barnes had 0 points while hitting eight of her 5 shot attempts (53.3 percent). Turn What Overs With 3 games completed this season, CSUB remains one of the nation s best in terms of turnover margin. The Roadrunners have held a positive turnover margin in every game this season and forced at least 0 opponent turnovers in every game except two (, at USC Dec. 0, 009) (8, vs. Cal Poly Jan. 30, 00). Record (Tie) Breaker Katie Williams tallied four steals on Tuesday to tie the single season steals mark of 9. The record is also shared by Audrie Magdaleno who compiled 9 steals during the inaugural season. Williams is among the nation s defensive leaders, boasting an impressive.0 steals per outing. A Fresh Record The lone true freshman on this season s squad, Amber Williams, has certainly proven to her teammates that she belongs on the court. Against Cal State Northridge ( 0), Williams set a Roadrunner program record with eight three pointers, besting Gillian Lillich s 003 total of seven. The freshman has emerged as the team s third leading scorer (9.9). Holding 60 CSUB is an impressive 85 0 all time record when holding opponents under 60 points. Opponent Date Score H/A/N Utah Valley Dec. 9, Home Delaware State Dec. 9, Neutral Miami (Ohio) Dec., Home Seattle Jan. 6, Home Oregon State Feb., Home The 36 points allowed to Utah Valley is a program record. Last season, the Roadrunners held seven opponents under 60 points. From Deep The Roadrunners have shown they have a knack for hitting the long range shot this season. In fact, the CSUB record book has been updated twice this season for team three point field goal makes already. The 5 long distance bombs against Hawaii ( 09) lifted the Runners to a victory. While the Roadrunners bested that mark against UC Davis ( 8 0) with 6 makes from deep, the outcome did not fall in CSUB s favor, falling to the Aggies, Tarver Cements Legacy Senior Kelley Tarver made her 5th career appearance against Oregon State on Feb., which ties the program record for career games played. Former CSUB great Krista Arase made 5 appearances for the Roadrunners from , starting every contest. Tarver is scheduled to break Arase s careerstarts record on Feb. 0, at Seattle University. The Starters Are... Seniors Kelley Tarver, Phynique Allen, Katie Williams and junior Tamiko Davis have started every contest this season for the Roadrunners. Junior Nikki Leon has made four starts while senior Tiffany Belt has started nine times. Recently, freshman Amber Williams has moved her way into the starting slate, making starts in 0 of the past games.

9 THE ROAD TO DIVISION I In May of 005, California State University, Bakersfield President Dr. Horace Mitchell announced that the University was initiating the process of moving the highly regarded CSUB athletics program from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I status. For the Roadrunners, the academic year was the first in a five year process of reclassification set forth by the NCAA. Should they successfully complete the process, the Roadrunners would become a full NCAA Division I member in 00. The move dovetailed nicely with the University s emphasis on excellence in all CSUB disciplines and programs. In fact, the goal set forth in 00 was to make CSUB the top campus in the CSU system within 0 years. The move is not unprecedented. Many of CSUB s former rivals, including Cal Poly, UC Riverside, Cal State Northridge and UC Davis have made the jump in recent years. In fact, all nine of the current Big West Conference members began as NCAA Division II institutions. To take that one step further, DIVISION all Big West Conference members except UC Irvine were members of the California I Collegiate Athletic Association before making the jump to NCAA Division I status. Other former CCAA members who successfully made the jump to NCAA Division I include San Diego State, Fresno State, San Jose State and Pepperdine University. Moving to NCAA Division I status is not automatic. Beginning with an exploratory year, (which CSUB completed in ), institutions must complete a five year process to full NCAA Division I membership. Below is a year by year breakdown of the steps CSUB will take on the road to Division I: CSUB s NCAA Division I Timeline : Exploratory Year Completed Completed Considered NCAA Division II for scheduling against Division I opponents. Considered Division I when scheduling against Division II opponents. Compliance with all DI minimum contest requirements. Submit formal application and fee to the NCAA. Submit a strategic plan based on the plan submitted during exploratory year. Apply Division I legislation in all areas except scheduling. Submit an annual report Completed Considered NCAA Division I against all opponents. Full compliance with all NCAA Division I legislation and membership requirements, including scholarship minimums and Division I scheduling. Submit an annual report and updated strategic plan based on feedback from previous year Completed Attendance at NCAA Convention required by CEO, AD, SWA, FAR and Compliance Coordinator. Completion of NCAA athletics certification orientation visit. Submit an annual report and updated strategic plan based on feedback from previous year Successfully complete an NCAA athletics certification self study and evaluation visit. Submit an annual report and updated strategic plan based on feedback from previous year. 00 Full NCAA Division I Membership Should CSUB successfully navigate the five year transition process, it will become a full NCAA Division I member in July of 00.

Four players reached double digit scoring totals as the Roadrunners defeated the Seattle University Redhawks, Sparked by a second half run, CSUB turned a five point halftime advantage into a point lead late in the second half. Junior Tamiko Davis scored 0 points to go along with her game high rebounds for her third double double of the season. The senior trio of Phynique Allen, Katie Williams and Tiffany Belt scored, and points on the evening, respectively. Despite not leading at any point during the game, Seattle hung close and even came within a point of CSUB late in the first half. With the Roadrunners up, 3, Seattle went on a quick 8 0 run sparked by a couple of long three pointers by Ashley Brown and Kortney Parks. CSUB would respond and closed the half on an 7 run to lead, 3 9, at the break. In the second half, Seattle again would hang around offensively as its zone defense seemed to slow the Roadrunner attack. A Samantha Messersmith free throw at the : mark pulled the Redhawks to within seven points. But over the next nine minutes, CSUB controlled the game, going on a 9 run highlighted by a no look behind the back pass from Allen to Davis that ignited the crowd. A hot shooting UC Davis team ended CSUB s seven game home winning streak as the Aggies defeated the Roadrunners, With the outcome still up in the air with just seconds remaining, UC Davis converted a fast break layup and iced it with a free throw with just one second remaining on the clock. A last second three quarter court prayer came up short as CSUB fell for the first time in its last eight games at home. The Roadrunners set a school record by connecting 6 times from beyond the arc. Big West leading UC Davis shot 58.8 percent (30 of 5) from the floor, aided by a spectacular second half in which the Aggies hit 8 of their 6 shot attempts (69. percent). Leading the Roadrunner charge was senior Kelley Tarver who tied a season high with five three pointers. She also dished out eight assists and had two steals. Classmate Phynique Allen had her first double double of the year with a 5 point, 0 assist performance. The 0 assists were a career high. Junior Tamiko Davis grabbed a game high rebounds as the Roadrunners out rebounded the Aggies, 3 6. Senior Katie Williams added points, hitting four of her nine three point attempts. Freshman Amber Williams finished with 0 points. The game would be tied at four different points in the final five minutes with CSUB hitting five field goals, all three pointers. Katie Williams missed a go ahead three pointer and secured the offensive board. But as she drove through the lane and kicked the ball out to an open Allen, her momentum carried her into an Aggie defender and was whistled for a foul. CSUB would not get a shot off on its next posession as Allen committed another turnover and Williams was forced to foul.
