The matchup is the second of the season between DePaul and St. John s with the Red Storm taking the first meeting on Jan. 1 at Allstate Arena by a score of Monday s game will be televised on FS1 with Brian Custer (play-by-play) and Jim Spanarkel (analyst) handling the television duties. Garrett Moves Up Scoring List: DePaul senior guard Billy Garrett Jr. became the 49th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau on Jan. 9, 2016 at Georgetown. Garrett currently sits in 15th place on the all-time scoring chart and is the first 1,000-point scorer since Brandon Young on March 9, At the Stripe: Throughout his career, Billy Garrett Jr. has used the free throw line like few in program history. While working his way up the career lists for free throws, free throw attempts and free throw percentage, Garrett is the only player in school history with multiple no-miss games with at least 11 free throws. On just 12 occasions, a DePaul player has recorded an 11-for-11 effort or better from the charity stripe with Garrett holding four of those occurrences. No other player in school history has accomplished the feat more than once. Last season, Garrett went 12-for-12 at Georgetown on Jan. 9, 2016 and also has a 13-for-13 game and two games of 11-for-11. Mark Aguirre has the most free throws without a miss with an 18-for-18 effort against Illinois State on March 1, In the exhibition game against Rockhurst on Nov. 4, Garrett went 14-for-14 from the free throw line en route to a team-high 26 points in the win over the Hawks. Through 18 regular-season games, Garrett is 105- for-114 (.921) from the line after making 21 straight to start the season. 3 Neighborhood Bully: Over the last six seasons (since start of season), DePaul is 16-4 against Chicagoland opponents (Chicago State, UIC, Loyola-Chicago, Northern Illinois, Northwestern)... in the last 16 seasons (since start of season), the record against locals is DePaul faces Northwestern (80-64 loss on Dec. 3 in Evanston), UIC (80-75 loss on Dec. 14 at McGrath-Phillips Arena) and Chicago State ( win on Dec. 17 at Allstate Arena) this season... including this season, DePaul has played three local opponents in six of the last seven seasons. DePaul Adds Two For Next Season: DePaul head coach Dave Leitao announced on Nov. 11 that Jaylen Butz and Justin Roberts will join the program starting in the season. The duo completed paperwork in the November signing period that runs from Nov. 9-16, Roberts, a 5-11 guard, is finishing his prep career at Findlay Prep and the Pilots are ranked No. 7 in the USA TODAY Super 25 preseason poll. Prior to Findlay Prep, Roberts starred at Pike High School in Indianapolis where he averaged 16.8 points, 3.7 assists and 2.2 steals per game as a junior. Rated as a four-start recruit by Scout.com and ESPN.com, he was selected to the Indiana Junior All-Star team and was a second team selection to the All-Central Indiana Super Team. Roberts played for Spiece Indy Heat on the AAU circuit and averaged 11.9 points and 3.2 assists per game during play in the EYBL. Butz is also an Indiana native playing his senior year at North Side High School in Fort Wayne. The 6-9 forward was also a member of the Indiana Junior All-Star team a year ago after averaging 15.5 points, 11.4 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game. Butz also played for Spiece Indy Heat and averaged 7.8 points and 5.4 rebounds on the EYBL circuit. Grandstaff and Strus are sitting out the season under NCAA transfer guidelines. Grandstaff, a 6-4 guard, was ranked among the nation s top 50 players coming out of high school before playing in 10 games at Ohio State as a freshman while Strus, a 6-6 guard, scored over 1,000 points in his two seasons at Lewis University while earning NCAA Division II All-American honors. Leitao Returns to Lincoln Park: Dave Leitao was named DePaul s head coach on March 29, 2015 and returns to Chicago following a very successful three-year stint with the Blue Demons from Leitao s three-year run saw three postseason appearances that included a 2004 Conference USA title and trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The New Bedford, Mass. native left DePaul following the season and accepted the head coach position at Virginia. With the Cavaliers, he made three postseason appearances in four seasons and was the 2007 ACC Coach of the Year. Leitao spent the three seasons working as an assistant coach under Frank Haith at Missouri and Tulsa before returning to DePaul. Following the season, Leitao was ranked No. 20 in the Basketball Times list of the top 50 assistant coaches in the nation. DePaul is expected to host events annually in the facility including graduation ceremonies, which allow each school of the university to have its ceremony under the same roof. athe 10,000-seat events center is scheduled to open in the basketball season and will be located near McCormick Place on Cermak Road between Indiana and South Prairie Avenues.
