Seven games are slated for television coverage, including pay-per-view. Big 12 squads opened the 2008 campaign with a 10-2 (.833) record against non-conference opponents, including a 1-1 mark vs. Top 25 teams. The Big 12 s mark is currently second among FBS leagues. The SEC is 10-1 going into Monday s Tennessee- UCLA matchup. In Week 1 the Big 12 had three quarterbacks throw for 300-plus yards, fi ve rushers and receivers over the century mark and nine double-digit tacklers. The site features numerous enhancements, including a broadband video channel along with new interactive and e-commerce opportunities. Video highlights from many Big 12 contests will be featured, with various games and championships streamed live via the site each season. CollegePressBox.com The offi cial media site for Big 12 football will provide one-stop access to updated contact information, media guides, game notes, game books, quotes, links and more for each of the conference s 12 schools and the conference offi ce. Media should contact Big 12 Communications for a user name and password. 13th Annual Dr Pepper Big 12 Football Championship For the fifth time in league history the Dr Pepper Big 12 Football Championship game will be held in Kansas City. The 2008 game takes place on Saturday, December 6, at Arrowhead Stadium. Previous Big 12 Championship games staged in Kansas City were in 2000 (79,665), 2003 (79,451), 2004 (62,130) and 2006 (80,031). In 2008, the South representative will be the home team and utilize the sideline on the press box side of the fi eld. General public tickets are priced at $85, $75, $65 and $55, plus handling fees. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com or (800) in addition to in-person at Arrowhead Stadium. Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship Winners In the 12-year history of the event, there have been six different winners. All-time titlists include Texas (1996, 2005), Nebraska (1997, 1999), Texas A&M (1998), Oklahoma (2000, 2002, 2004, 2007), Colorado (2001) and Kansas State (2003). Attendance Attendance in the Big 12 surpassed 4.6 million fans the past two seasons, including 4,652,267 in Stadiums in the Big 12 were fi lled to 96.6 percent of capacity last year, the ninth straight year over 90 percent. Average attendance in 2007 was 60,419, the highest in league history and fi rst time to average over 60,000. Home Win Streaks Oklahoma s nation-leading home win streak is at 19 games. Kansas is fi fth with 10 consecutive victories at home while Missouri is tied for eighth with seven. Non-Conference Schedule The non-conference portion of the 2008 Big 12 schedule features five tilts against teams that were ranked in the preseason Top 25 polls (Coaches, AP): #23/23 Wake Forest at Baylor (8/28), #7/6 Missouri vs. #19/20 Illinois (8/30), #13/14 Kansas at #21/19 South Florida (9/12), #8/8 West Virginia at Colorado (9/18), #15/17 Virginia Tech at Nebraska (9/27). Fourteen of the 48 non-conference games are against teams that played in a bowl game last season. The league has compiled a (.706) non-conference record since 1996 and is 10-2 in Television Partners ABC begins its 13th season as the conference s national network television partner. The Big 12 also continues its long-standing relationship with FSN for its cable rights. FSN has sublicensed select television games in 2008 to ESPN and Versus. Big 12 Media Preseason Poll Media covering the conference have correctly predicted the division champions in four of the last six seasons (OU/NU-06, UT/CU-05; OU/KSU-03, CU/OU-02). Robert Griffin is the first true freshman to play quarterback for BU since Davon Vinson in Linebackers Joe Pawelek (15), Antonio Jones (6) and Antonio Johnson (6) all tabbed career high tackles against Wake Forest while safety Jeremy Williams tied his career-high (8). Running back Jacoby Jones second-quarter touchdown run was the fi rst rushing touchdown of his career. IOWA STATE (1-0, 0-0) This Week: Kent State Next Week: at Iowa COLORADO (1-0, 0-0) This Week: Eastern Washington Next Week: Open CU improved to in season openers, and has won 22 of its last 23 when scoring fi rst. Colorado scored in its 236th consecutive game, adding to the fourth -longest active streak in the nation and the ninth-longest of all-time. CU has extended the streak in the fi rst half 214 times. The 258 yards CU allowed CSU was the fewest by the opponent in a season opener since 1998, and seventh-lowest total by an opponent in the last 40 season openers. Josh Smith s 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the second quarter was the fi rst by a Buffalo since KANSAS (1-0, 0-0) This Week: Louisiana Tech Next Week: at South Florida (Sept. 12) Freshmen scored 26 of ISU s 44 points against SDSU. Kicker Grant Mahoney accounted for 14 points, while Darius Darks and Sedrick Johnson each added six points with their respective touchdown receptions. Quarterback Austen Arnaud threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score in his first career start. Iowa State returned five interceptions, the most since 2001, for a schoolrecord 202 yards. Jason Harris 68-yard touchdown run was his first career score, and is the longest touchdown run by a Cyclone since 2002 (Lane Danielsen, 79 yards). KANSAS STATE (1-0, 0-0) This Week: Montana State Next Week: Open Kansas win over FIU was the fifth-straight win in season openers and in home openers. KU captured its 10th straight home victory, the secondlongest streak in school history. Quarterback Todd Reesing completed three touchdown passes to wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe, giving him a school-record 39 career touchdown passes. He also had a career high 37 completions and 52 pass attempts. KU s 40 points marked the eighth consecutive game at Memorial Stadium where the team has scored 40 points or more, all resulting in KU wins. Saturday s game drew a KU home record 52,112 fans. MISSOURI (1-0, 0-0) This Week: Southeast Missouri Next Week: Nevada Kansas State owns a 14-game winning streak in home seasonopeners. The Wildcats tallied their highest home-opening point total under head coach Ron Prince with the 45 points against North Texas. In the fi rst offensive possesion of 2008, it took fi ve seconds for K-State to score its fi rst touchdown on a four-yard rush by Keithen Valentine. Seven Wildcats made their fi rst career starts on Saturday, four on offense and three on defense. Josh Freeman started his 21st career contest last Saturday. The junior quarterback fi nished the evening 18-of-24 with 232 yards and three touchdowns. He also tallied 5 carries for 23 yards and tied his careerhigh with two rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Chase Daniel went 26-for-45 for 323 yards, three touchdowns and an interception against Illinois. He currently has a career total of 8,503 passing yards, needing just 296 more to surpass Brad Smith as the career passing yardage leader at MU. Jeremy Maclin had 234 all-purpose yards including 201 return yards. He became only the second player in Mizzou history to achieve two kickoff returns for a touchdown, as he took a second-quarter kickoff 99 yards for a score. Defensive End Stryker Sulak was credited with three quarterback sacks, in all had fi ve tackles for loss and eight total tackles. Sulak also forced a fumble and blocked an extra point. Linebacker Sean Witherspoon had nine tackles and two interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown to garner Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week honors.

4 Big 12 Football September 1, 2008 Week 2 Release Page 4 NEBRASKA (1-0, 0-0) This Week: San Jose State Next Week: New Mexico State Nebraska has won a nation-leading 23 straight season openers after its win over WMU. Last Saturday s game marked the 290th consecutive sellout at Memorial Stadium. Quarterback Joe Ganz passed for 365 yards to become the fi rst QB in school history with four 300-yard passing games in a career. He has averaged 436 passing yards and thrown for 19 touchdown passes in his four career starts, with at least four touchdown passes in each game. Ganz is the only quarterback in school history with four consecutive four-td pass games. OKLAHOMA STATE (1-0, 0-0) This Week: Houston Next Week: Missouri State Twelve of OSU s fi rst 25 points came on a 42-yard punt return by Dez Bryant, a safety and a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Perrish Cox. Cox s kickoff return for a TD was the third of his career and ties for the Big 12 career lead. The return also ties for the 13th-longest in OSU history. It marked his fourth career special teams touchdown. In his fi rst career starter, Kendall Hunter rushed for 107 yards on 23 carries with two touchdowns. It marked the 12th game in a row that OSU has produced a 100-yard runner. The OSU defense allowed just 196 total yards, forced a fumble, recorded a safety and held Washington State to less than 10 yards on nine of the Cougars 12 offensive possessions. TEXAS A&M (0-1, 0-0) This Week: at New Mexico Next Week: Open OKLAHOMA (1-0, 0-0) This Week: Cincinnati Next Week: at Washington The Sooners converted their first seven possessions into touchdowns and scored 50 first-half points vs. Chattanooga to mark only the second time since 1937 the program has scored 50 or more points in the opening half. The Sooners held Chattanooga to two first downs, the lowest total since 1993, and 36 total yards. Over his career, nearly one-third of Chris Brown s rushing attempts (31%) have resulted in either a fi rst down or a touchdown. Sam Bradford has completed 70% of his passing attempts in eight of the 15 college games in which he has played. TEXAS (1-0, 0-0) This Week: at UTEP Next Week: Arkansas Since Mack Brown took over in 1998, UT has produced 35 games with 500 or more yards of total offense. There are only 58 of them in the 116 years of Texas football. Texas improved to (.841) all-time in season-openers, (.905) when opening the season at home. Brown improved to 10-1 in season openers at Texas, including nine wins in a row. Quarterback Colt McCoy joined Vince Young as the only players in UT history to pass for 200 or more yards and rush for 100 or more yards in a game more than once in a career. McCoy completed his first 13 passes, setting a UT record for consecutive pass completions in a game. TEXAS TECH (1-0, 0-0) This Week: at Nevada Next Week: SMU The Aggies used a total of nine fi rst-time starters, six on offense and three on defense in their season-opener. Junior Mike Goodson rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns on a career-high 24 carries. He also accounted for 40 rushing yards on A&M s opening drive, more yards than he had in fi ve games last season. Quarterback Stephen McGee completed 19-of-27 passes for 170 yards, giving him 5,159 career passing yards. He is the fi fth A&M quarterback to pass the 5,000-yard mark. The Aggies had their only penalty of the game with 4:39 left to play. The last game in which the Aggies had no penalties was in 1992 (Texas Tech). Quarterback Graham Harrell now has 11,218 passing yards in his career and trails only Kliff Kingsbury who passed for 12,429 yards from TTU blocked a 47-yard fi eld goal attempt by EWU in the third quarter to give the Red Raiders their fi rst blocked fi eld goal since the 2002 season. Eric Morrison (164) and Detron Lewis (163) combined for 327 receiving yards. Both recorded career-highs in yardage and caught nine passes each. Tech s nation-leading streak of consecutive PATs ended at 234. The streak began in 2004.
