Four other teams received votes in at least one of the polls. Eight 2007 Big 12 season openers will be televised on either a national or regional basis.

Video Highlight Web Site The Big 12 Conference announces a new video service for the 2007 football season designed to replace its weekly satellite highlight feed. Television outlets will now be able to download broadcast-quality highlights 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week for each Big 12 football team through a password protected web site at Following each weekend s action, highlights will be posted to the site for download, most times within 24 hours after the completion of each game. Highlight packages will also include player and/or coaches comments about the most recent game and the upcoming opponent. All fi les will be in Quicktime format. As an added feature, all clips will be available for preview prior to downloading. First-time visitors to the site will be required to complete the on-line registration form before accessing the video highlights. Please contact Ted Gangi at 214/ or webmaster@collegepressbox.com for additional information. 12th Annual Dr Pepper Big 12 Football Championship For the third time in league history the Dr Pepper Big 12 Football Championship game will be held in San Antonio. The 2007 game takes place on Saturday, December 1, at the Alamodome. Previous Big 12 Championship games staged in the Alamodome were in 1997 (64,824) and 1999 (65,035). General public tickets are priced at $99, $79, $69, $59, $39, plus fees, Tickets are available through Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com or (800) in addition to in-person at the Alamodome South East Box Offi ce or by phone (210) BIG 12 MEDIA SERVICES/NOTES Non-Conference Schedule The non-conference portion of the 2007 Big 12 schedule features six tilts against teams that are ranked in the preseason Top 25 polls (Coaches, AP): Baylor at TCU (22/22), Kansas State at Auburn (14/18), Oklahoma State at Georgia (13/13), Colorado vs. Florida State (21/19), Texas vs. TCU (22/22) and Nebraska vs. USC (1/1). Twenty of the 48 non-conference games are against teams that played in bowl games last season. The league has compiled a (.701) non-conference record since Tight End League The Big 12 leads all conferences with six players listed on the Mackey Award preseason watch list. Missouri is the only team in the nation to have two players on the list (Chase Coffman, Martin Rucker). The Mackey Award is given annually to the country s top tight end Television Partners ABC begins its 12th season as the conference s national network television partner. The Big 12 also continues its long-standing relationship with FSN for its cable rights. FSN has sublicensed select television games in 2007 to ESPN and Versus. Big 12 Media Preseason Poll Media covering the conference have correctly predicted the division champions in four of the last fi ve seasons (OU/NU-06; UT/CU-05; OU/ KSU-03, CU/OU-02). Last year the media accurately predicted Oklahoma to win the South and Nebraska to capture the North. Overall the top spot in each division has been accurately picked by the league s media corps 13-of-22 times. Following are this season s projections. North South 1. Missouri Texas 2. Iowa State Baylor Satellite Radio The Big 12 has partnered with XM Satellite Radio for the broadcast of select football games, men s and women s basketball games, plus the Dr Pepper football championship and Phillips 66 basketball tournaments. Each of the league s institutions also have satellite radio agreements in place this football season. All-time titlists include Texas (1996, 2005), Nebraska (1997, 1999), Texas A&M (1998), Oklahoma (2000, 2002, 2004, 2007), Colorado (2001) and Kansas State (2003).

3 Big 12 Football August Week 1 Page 3 BAYLOR (4-8, 3-5) This Week: at TCU Next Week: Rice Through his fi rst four seasons at Baylor, Guy Morriss teams have posted more overall wins (15) and conference victories (seven) than the Bears registered in the six years prior to his arrival. Five signal callers are in the race to replace 23-game starter Shawn Bell, who set virtually every BU single season and career passing record in his tenure. The Bears return eight of their top 10 tacklers from a year ago to a defense that has forced 56 turnovers in the last two seasons. Baylor s 2007 opponents posted a combined (.559) record in 2006 and eight earned bowl bids, including six of eight Big 12 foes. IOWA STATE (4-8, 1-7) This Week: Kent State (Aug. 30) Next Week: Northern Iowa COLORADO (2-10, 2-6) This Week: Colorado State (Denver) Next Week: at Arizona State Colorado has scored in 222 straight games, the fifth-longest active streak in the NCAA and 11th-longest all-time. CU allowed 22.3 points per game last season, the fewest since 1998 (19.1), and the third-lowest fi gure in CU s 11 years in the Big 12 (the other: 18.1 in 1996). The Buffaloes committed 16 turnovers in The last turnover was a fumble lost with 7:55 left in the second quarter of the Kansas State game as the Buffs fi nished the last 10-plus quarters (157:55) of the season without a turnover. Quarterback Bernard Jackson brings a streak of 66 consecutive passes thrown without an interception into the 2007 season. KANSAS (6-6, 3-5) This Week: Central Michigan Next Week: Southeastern Louisiana Gene Chizik begins his fi rst season as Iowa State s head coach after spending the past two as defensive coordinator at Texas. Quarterback Bret Meyer enters his senior campaign with 7,979 career yards of total offense, good for sixth place on the Big 12 chart. Former Missouri quarterback Brad Smith sits atop the list with 13,088 yards. Senior linebacker Alvin Bowen led the nation in tackles in 2006 with per game. The offensive line will be a key area for ISU in 2007 as the Cyclones lost four of fi ve starters from the 2006 squad. The 2007 season will mark KU s 118th year of intercollegiate football. Only 11 NCAA Football Bowl Division schools have been playing longer. The Jayhawks defense has allowed one individual 100-yard rushing performance in the past two seasons (Leon Patton, Kansas State, Game 11, 2006). Junior cornerback Aqib Talib fi nished fourth in the nation and fi rst in the Big 12 with six interceptions last season. Kansas held opponents to four fourth-down conversions in 16 attempts in 2006 to lead the conference. KANSAS STATE (7-6, 4-4) This Week: at Auburn Next Week: San Jose State MISSOURI (8-5, 4-4) This Week: Illinois (St. Louis) Next Week: at Mississippi Ron Prince won more games in his inaugural season than any first-year Big 12 head coach since He also became the first K-State mentor to guide the Wildcats to a bowl game in his fi rst year. Quarterback Josh Freeman set the KSU single-season freshman passing mark in 2006 with 1,780 yards. Over 90 percent of his production came in Big 12 games. On offense, the Wildcats return over 70 percent of both their rushing and passing yards and over 65 percent of receiving and all-purpose yardage. KSU has over 61 percent of its tackle production back in 2007, including more than 74 percent of its tackles-for-losses and 80 percent of interceptions. Quarterback Chase Daniel set the Mizzou season total offense record with 3,906 yards in He also set the school record with four 300- yard passing games. Jeff Wolfert, who came to Missouri on a diving scholarship, made all 45 of his PAT attempts last season, making him the fi rst MU kicker to hit 100 percent for a season. In the last four years, Gary Pinkel has led the Tigers to a mark of overall and three bowl games. Missouri won eight games in 2006 for only the 10th time in school history. MU will be looking for its third consecutive bowl appearance in 2007, a feat that hasn t happened in Columbia since the seasons.

4 Big 12 Football August Week 1 Page 4 NEBRASKA (9-5, 6-2) This Week: Nevada Next Week: at Wake Forest OKLAHOMA (11-3, 7-1) This Week: North Texas Next Week: Miami (Fla.) Last season, Nebraska represented the North Division in the Dr Pepper Big 12 Football Championship for the fi rst time since NU also played in the AT&T Cotton Bowl, its first New Year s Day bowl appearance in fi ve years. NU was one of the nation s most improved offensive units in 2006, finishing 14th nationally and third in the Big 12 in total offense at yards per game, a 94.3-yard improvement over the 2005 season. The Huskers 2007 schedule includes eight teams that played in bowl games last season, highlighted by non-conference tilts vs. BCS bowl participants Wake Forest and USC. Oklahoma won its league-leading fourth Big 12 Championship in 2006 and played in the Fiesta Bowl, its fi fth BCS bowl appearance. The Sooners have been ranked in the Associated Press Poll for a total of 637 weeks, which ranks fourth nationally and fi rst among Big 12 schools. OU returns its top four receivers, all three tight ends and fi ve linemen with starting experience to the offensive side of the ball in Defenders who accounted for 13 of 18 interceptions and 11 of 14 fumble recoveries in 2006 return to the squad this season. OKLAHOMA STATE (7-6, 3-5) This Week: at Georgia Next Week: Florida Atlantic Oklahoma State improved from No. 96 to No. 7 nationally in scoring in 2006 with 35.2 points per game. The Cowboys return eight starters in 2007 from an offense that was one of only two in the nation (Boise State) to average more than 200 yards rushing and passing in OSU s 2007 schedule features eight teams that played in 2006 bowl games, while combining to post an record. Oklahoma State returns its top two tacklers (Andre Sexton, Patrick Lavine) who were both freshmen last season. Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Andre Sexton, tallied a team-leading 79 stops, while Patrick Levine was credited with 70 tackles. TEXAS (10-3, 6-2) This Week: Arkansas State Next Week: TCU Texas has logged at least 10 wins in each of the last six seasons. The Longhorns are the only NCAA Bowl Division school to accomplish the feat. UT has appeared in 46 bowl games, tied for the second-highest total in the NCAA. Texas and Tennessee trail NCAA-leading Alabama (53). Mack Brown is the only active coach in the NCAA Bowl Division who has led his teams to at least nine wins in each of the last 11 years. The Longhorns have led the conference in scoring offense the past two seasons. In 2006, they averaged 35.9 points per game to rank sixth nationally. The team also led the Big 12 in rushing defense (62.6 yards allowed), which was third nationally. TEXAS A&M (9-4, 5-3) This Week: Montana State Next Week: Fresno State TEXAS TECH (8-5, 4-4) This Week: at SMU (Sept. 3) Next Week: UTEP Texas A&M led the nation in time of possession in 2006 at 33:35, a plus-7:10 advantage. With four interceptions thrown last season, the Aggies tied for the NCAA lead in fewest INTs tossed. In 330 attempts a year ago, 98.8 percent of passes were not intercepted. Quarterback Stephen McGee was one of four 2,000/500 signal callers in the NCAA last season with 2,295 passing and 666 rushing yards. Running back Jorvorskie Lane s 19 rushing touchdowns matched the second-oldest record in the Aggie record book (Joel Hunt, 1927) and led the Big 12 in Mike Leach has led the Red Raiders to 56 wins in his seven seasons, the best seven-season total in school annals. Placekicker Alex Trlica holds the NCAA record with 166 consecutive point-after-attempts made entering his senior season. He has never missed a PAT during his Tech career. The offensive line will be a key area for Tech as it lost four of five starters from the 2006 squad. Quarterback Graham Harrell led the Big 12 in total offense (345.3 ypg), completions (412), passing yards (4,555) and touchdown passes (38) last season as a sophomore.
