Five Conference contests will be televised. Including this week s games, 47 of 61 outings will have been telecast on some type of media platform. Five Big 12 quarterbacks rank nationally among the Top 18 in passing yards per game - 2. Taylor Potts, TTU (363.40); T5. Todd Reesing, KU and Jerrod Johnson, TAMU (315.80); 15. Colt McCoy, UT (282.00) and 18. Blaine Gabbert, MU (259.00). Kansas (5-0) and Texas (5-0) are among the last nine undefeated FBS teams. Two of the top three national sack leaders reside in the Big Von Miller, TAMU (1.80) and 3. Jeremy Beal, OU (1.30). Oklahoma owns the nation s longest home win streak at 27. Texas is tied for third with 13 straight victories at home while Texas Tech is tied for fi fth with 12. Through the fi rst six weeks of the season, the Big 12 has recorded yard passing performances, 33 receiving efforts topping the century mark and 22 rushers with 100-plus-yard games. Six Big 12 squads are ranked in Oct. 11 polls with Texas remaining No. 2 in the Harris and coaches ratings. Other ranked teams include Oklahoma State, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Missouri. Texas Tech received votes in the AP Poll. A complete listing is on page 5. Big 12 Players of the Week were awarded to - Offense: Steven Sheffield (Texas Tech), Defense: Ndamukong Suh (Nebraska) and Special Teams: Jordan Shipley (Texas). Periodic updates are posted, including selected game updates and other conferencerelated information. 14th Annual Dr Pepper Big 12 Football Championship The Dr Pepper Big 12 Football Champoinship makes its debut in the newly-opened Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The 2009 game takes place on Saturday, December 5, at 7:00 p.m. CT and will be nationally televised by ABC. In 2009, the North representative will be the home team and utilize the home bench which is opposite the press box. Ticket information will be available at a later date. Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship Winners In the 13-year history of the event, there have been six different winners. All-time titlists include Texas (1996, 2005), Nebraska (1997, 1999), Texas A&M (1998), Oklahoma (2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008), Colorado (2001) and Kansas State (2003). Big 12 Bowl Partners Again in 2009, the Big 12 will have eight bowl slots guaranteed. With its selection of a Big 12 team in 2008, the Gator Bowl has fulfi lled the agreement the Conference has with it and the Sun Bowl of selecting a Big 12 team twice in a four-year period. The Sun Bowl will select a Big 12 team in the fourth and fi nal year of the agreement. Following is the 2009 selection order: BCS - Fiesta Cotton Holiday Alamo Sun Insight Independence Texas BIG 12 NOTEBOOK Big 12 Report On September 17, the Big 12 debuted The Big 12 Report a weekly magazinestyle show that is available exclusively on the Conference Web site. Hosted by Big12Sports.com Correspondent Wendell Barnhouse, the show will be broadcast each week and focus on the schools and student-athletes throughout the Big 12. In addition, the broadcasts will give fans a unique look into the workings of the Big 12 Conference itself - including television, bowl games, scheduling and more - along with interviews with the Commissioner and other selected Big 12 staff. Big 12 Heisman Winners The Big 12 has four Heisman winners in the league s 13-year history, the most of any conference during this time span. A Big 12 player has captured the trophy four of the last 11 seasons: 2008-Sam Bradford (OU); 2003-Jason White (OU); 2001-Eric Crouch (NU); 1998-Ricky Williams (UT). In 2008, Texas QB Colt McCoy fi nished second, 122 points behind Bradford, while Texas Tech QB Graham Harrell and WR Michael Crabtree fi nished fourth and fi fth, respectively. This marked the fi rst time in the award s 74-year history four of the top fi ve fi nishers hailed from the same conference. Television Partners ABC begins its 14th season as the conference s national network television partner. The Big 12 also continues its long-standing relationship with FSN for its cable rights. FSN has sublicensed select television games in 2009 to ESPN and Versus. BCS Sightings The 2008 season marked the fi fth time the Big 12 has advanced two teams to BCS games in the same season (2001, 03, 04, 07, 08). Conference teams have played in 16 BCS games in the 11-year history of the structure, posting a 7-9 mark. Big 12 Weekly Television Shows FSN s Big 12 Showcase and ESPNU s Big 12 This Week are telecast weekly with features on student-athletes, coaches and teams as well as highlights of Conference championships and other events in the league. Check local listings for dates and times. Big 12 Media Preseason Poll Media covering the conference have correctly predicted the division champions in four of the last six seasons (OU/NU-06, UT/CU-05; OU/KSU-03, CU/OU-02). 3 Big 12 Football October 13, Week 7 Page 3 BAYLOR (3-2, 0-1) This Week: at Iowa State Next Week: Oklahoma State Sophomore receiver Kendall Wright has caught at least one pass in 17 consecutive games (each game of his career). His 5.2 receptions per game ranks ninth in the Big 12. Wright had a season-high seven catches for 132 yards, including a 51-yard score in the fourth quarter, against Iowa State last year. In 2008, Mikail Baker took the opening kickoff of the second half 93 yards for a touchdown in a win over Iowa State. Baker is ninth in the Conference career kickoff returns list (65) and 10th on the career kickoff return yards list (1,610). BU s leading rusher this season, Jay Finley, gained 60 yards with one touchdown on 15 carries last season against the Cyclones. BU also recorded a season-high 27 fi rst downs versus the Cyclones. IOWA STATE (3-3, 0-2) This Week: Baylor Next Week: at Nebraska COLORADO (1-4, 0-1) This Week: Kansas Next Week: at Kansas State Wide receiver Scotty McKnight caught a pass late in the game vs. Texas to extend his school-record streak to 29 games with at least one reception. His streak ranks ninth nationally. Quarterback Cody Hawkins two touchdown passes give him 45 for his career, a school record. Joel Klatt held the previous record with 43. Colorado leads the all-time series with Kansas, , including a 23-9 advantage in games played in Boulder. Kansas has won three straight in the series since CU won fi ve consecutive from Colorado ranks fifth in the Big 12 in kickoff returns, averaging 24.8 yards per return. Darrell Scott ranks second in the Conference in kick returns (16), kick return yards (435) and kickoff return average (27.2). KANSAS (5-0, 1-0) This Week: at Colorado Next Week: Oklahoma In the 2008 game against Baylor, Iowa State recorded three sacks and nine tackles for loss. This season ISU boasts four players in the top 25 in the Conference for tackles - tied for the best-represented school (with BU and Kansas). Alexander Robinson rushed for a career-high 152 yards (his fourth game over 100 yards this season) against KU, and is second in the Big 12 in rushing (109 ypg). ISU and BU have split the contests at Jack Trice Stadium, with each team winning twice. ISU s last win over the Bears came in 2004, 26-25, in Waco. LB Jesse Smith has notched four double-digit tackle games (15,15, 13 and 12), the most by any player in the Conference. KANSAS STATE (3-3, 1-1) This Week: Texas A&M Next Week: Colorado While Kansas seven-game winning streak is tied for the fourth-longest active streak in the NCAA, it is the fourth-longest streak at KU in the last 56 years. Kansas is looking to win its fourth straight against Colorado for the first time in the series (which dates back to 1903). Kerry Meier s 16 receptions against Iowa State set a single-game school record. Meier (1,801) needs eight yards to move into fi fth on the KU career receiving yardage list. He also needs one touchdown reception to tie for fourth or two TDs to tie for second on the KU career touchdown reception list. QB Todd Reesing (9,157) needs 343 yards to pass Bret Meyer of Iowa State for fi fth on the Big 12 career passing yardage list. MISSOURI (4-1, 0-1) This Week: at Oklahoma State Next Week: Texas The Aggies hold an 8-5 edge in the all-time series, but Kansas State looks to build on last year s victory. In 2008, K-State snapped a fi ve-game losing streak to the Aggies by winning in College Station. Brandon Banks leads the team in receptions with 24 and has totaled 974 all-purpose yards (162.3 average), a fi gure that ranks third in the Big 12. Kansas State is against teams from the Big 12 South and is against teams from the state of Texas. The Wildcats gained 215 rushing yards against TAMU last year. KSU ranks sixth in the Conference this season, averaging 167 rushing yards per game. Junior linebacker Andrew Gachkar had fi ve tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries against Nebraska. He has three career fumble recoveries, all in the last three games. Missouri kickers have made 84 of their last 104 field goal attempts (80.7 percent). MU ranks fi rst in the Big 12, having made 91.7 percent of its fi eld goals this season (11-12). Mizzou leads the series with OSU 28-21, and is 5-2 vs. the Cowboys in Big 12 play. Six of the seven games since 1996 have been decided by one score, including three overtime contests. In the MU-OSU matchup, the road team has won each of the last four meetings, as MU claimed a triple overtime win in Stillwater in 2001 and then a win in The Cowboys won in Columbia in 2004 and in 2008.

4 Big 12 Football October 13, Week 7 Page 4 NEBRASKA (4-1, 1-0) This Week: Texas Tech Next Week: Iowa State Nebraska won it s fi rst game against a ranked opponent since 2006 with its victory over Mizzou. The 27-point rally from a 12-0 defi cit matched the largest fourth-quarter comeback in school history and the largest in a road game. The Huskers lead the series with Texas Tech 7-3 and are 3-1 in games at Memorial Stadium. Last year, the NU defense held TTU to 284 passing yards. NU recorded 471 total offense yards to Tech s 421. Ndamukong Suh garnered Big 12 and national Defensive Player of the Week accolades after he made six tackles (one-for-loss,) and a fumble-forcing sack against MU. He bettered his own school record with his 15th career sack and fourth interception. OKLAHOMA STATE (4-1, 1-0) This Week: Missouri Next Week: at Baylor Oklahoma State hosts Missouri in their 50th matchup, which also marks OSU s Homecoming game. MU leads the series but the Cowboys won last year The series is locked at in Stillwater. In last year s matchup, Zac Robinson completed 19 of 28 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 34 yards and a touchdown. The OSU defense held the Tigers to 64 yards rushing. Robinson holds the school record for career TDs with 58, as he has passed for a touchdown in all fi ve games this season. He ranks fi rst in the Big 12 and 11th nationally for passing effi ciency with The OSU offense is second nationally in fewest sacks allowed (.40 per game). The offensive line did not allow a sack at Texas A&M, who entered the game ranked fourth nationally in sacks. TEXAS A&M (3-2, 0-1) This Week: at Kansas State Next Week: at Texas Tech Texas A&M leads the series against Kansas State 8-5 and holds a 3-1 lead in Manhattan. In 2008, K-State won but Texas A&M recorded 544 total offensive yards (125 rushing, 419 passing) over the Wildcats 449 total yards ( 215 rushing, 235 passing). Last year, Jerrod Johnson completed 29 of 41 passes without an interception for 419 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Tannehill made 12 receptions for 210 yards and a touchdown. Johnson has 228 pass attempts without an interception, a Big 12 record (previous record was 213 consecutive passes without an interception). Von Miller continues to lead the conference and the nation in sacks (1.80) for the sixth consecutive week. OKLAHOMA (3-2, 1-0) This Week: Texas (Dallas) Next Week: at Kansas Texas leads the all-time series , but Oklahoma has won six of the last nine games. Last year, Sam Bradford completed 28 of 39 passes for 387 yards and fi ve touchdowns. Ryan Broyles made fi ve catches for 61 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Travis Lewis recorded 19 tackles (11 solo). Bradford became the fi rst Sooner QB to surpass 8,000 career passing yards (8,236). In his first full game of the season, he threw for 389 yards and a touchdown. He also tallied 300-plus yards for the 14th time of his career, tying the school record. DB Brian Jackson recorded an interception for the third straight game, the sixth of his career. OU has recorded multiple picks in 44 of the last 91 outings. TEXAS (5-0, 2-0) This Week: Oklahoma (Dallas) Next Week: at Missouri Texas meets Oklahoma for the 104th time at the Red River Rivalry. Leading the series , the Longhorns are the only Big 12 Conference team that hold an all-time series lead against the Sooners. In 2008, UT won Colt McCoy completed 28 of 35 passes for 277 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Shipley caught 11 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown. He also had a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The UT defense held OU to 48 yards rushing. McCoy extended his school-record streak to 22 consecutive games with a TD pass, moving into a tie for 11th place on the NCAA FBS career TD passing list with 95. Shipley became the fi rst player in school history to record 10-plus catches in three consecutive games. He also posted 100-plus yards for the second straight game and third time this season. TEXAS TECH (4-2, 1-1) This Week: at Nebraska Next Week: Texas A&M Texas Tech has passed for at least 400 yards in fi ve consecutive games this season, ranking No. 2 nationally with passing yards per game. TTU has been ranked in the top three for six consecutive weeks. Mike Leach (80-41) is just three wins away from passing Spike Dykes as Texas Tech s all-time wins leader. In his fi rst collegiate start, Steven Sheffi eld set a school record in the fi rst half as he threw for 370 yards and fi ve touchdowns that gave Tech a 38-0 lead over K-State at halftime. Sheffi eld earned Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors as he went 33-of-41 for 490 yards and seven touchdowns, which tied a TTU second-best single game performance. Texas Tech holds a three-game win streak against Nebraska, the longest streak over the Huskers in school history, when they meet for the 11th time. The Red Raiders won last year s contest in overtime and picked up their fi rst win in Memorial Stadium back in 2005 (34-31).
