It will mark just the second visit ever to the Petersen Events Center for the Friars. The Friars and the Panthers have met 38 times in the all-time series with Pittsburgh holding a lead in the series. PC is 12-7 all-time at home against Pittsburgh, 3-14 on the road and 1-1 on neutral courts against the Panthers. The two teams first met on March 18, 1975 when the Friars earned a win at Madison Square Garden in the NIT. In the last meeting between the two teams, Pittsburgh defeated the Friars, 88-61, at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on March 2, In the Friars' most recent win against the Panthers, Providence earned a victory at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on January 23, Pittsburgh leads the all-time series in BIG EAST regular season play, SCOUTING THE PANTHERS... The nationally ranked Pittsburgh Panthers enter Monday's game with a 14-3 mark and a 4-2 record in BIG EAST action. In their most recent game, the Panthers defeated fourth-ranked Syracuse, 76-69, in Pittsburgh on January 29. The Panthers are led by 6-2 junior guard Carl Krauser. Krauser is averaging a team best 15.9 points per game. Senior forward Chevon Troutman is second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.4 points. He leads the team in rebounding (8.3 rpg). CLOSE IN LOSSES... The Friars' 0-6 record in BIG EAST play does not indicate how close the team's losses have been. The Friars have lost all six games by a combined 30 points. 3 LAST SEASON VERSUS PITTSBURGH... The 12th-ranked Friars were defeated by the sixth-ranked Pittsburgh Panthers, 88-61, on March 2, 2004 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. For the Friars, the 27 points was the largest margin of defeat at home for the team since an loss to Connecticut on January 27, Pittsburgh shot 59 percent from the field and 90 percent from the free-throw line in the victory. In the first 20 minutes of action, the Friars were led by Marcus Douthit (Syracuse, N.Y.), who scored eight points. In the second half, the Friars could not keep up with the Panthers as they outscored Providence, 55-34, over the final 20 minutes of action. With 14:48 remaining in the game, Providence cut the Pittsburgh lead to five points, However, Pittsburgh went on a 17-7 run to open up a 15 point lead with 8:48 remaining in the game. The Friars were not able to slow down the Panthers over the final minutes of the game as they continued to build on their lead. The Friars were led by Rob Sanders (New London, Conn.) who had a team-high 16 points and six rebounds. Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) and Dwight Brewington (Lynn, Mass.) each scored 11 points for Providence PROVIDENCE COLLEGE BASKETBALL top-25 (Wake Forest 3, Boston College 5, Syracuse 12, Wichita State 22, and Villanova 24). MCGRATH INJURED... Friar junior point guard Donnie McGrath (Katonah, N.Y.) injured his ankle in PC's loss to West Virginia on January 29. McGrath's status is day-to-day. With McGarth out of the lineup, sophomore Dwight Brewington (Lynn, Mass.) and freshman Ray Cross (Cumberland, R.I.) shared the duties at point guard. Without McGrath versus the Mountaineers, Providence committed 27 turnovers. The injury occured about 12 minutes into the game. Prior to the injury, McGrath was 3-3 from three-point territory versus the Mountaineers. GOMES HAS SCORED 20 OR MORE 10 TIMES... Senior Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) has scored 20 or more points in 10 games this season. Gomes recorded 23 points in the Friars' loss to West Virginia on January 29. His 23 points versus West Virginia also marked the 42nd time in his career that he has recorded 20 or more points in a game. He has scored 20 or more points in 40 percent of the 104 games in his collegiate career. November 18, the Friars defeated Pennsylvania, 89-52, and the squad shot a season best 65.5 percent (36-55) from the field. ALL-TIME VERSUS RANKED TEAMS... The Friars have registered a record all-time versus top-25 teams. PC is 8-41 (.163) versus top-5 teams, (.175) versus top-10 teams and (.314) against top-20 squads. Head Coach Tim Welsh has registered a 9-28 record (.250) versus top-25 teams. This season, the Friars are 0-5 against ranked teams. Providence was defeated by No. 1/1 Wake Forest, 79-67, on November 24, No. 23/22 Florida, 84-66, on November 27, No. 25/- Boston College, 69-60, on January 8, No. 7/7 Syracuse, 75-71, on January 15 and No. 8/8 Boston College, 78-75, on January 26. SCORING DUO... Senior forward Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) and sophomore guard Dwight Brewington (Lynn, Mass.) have formed one of the top-scoring tandems in the BIG EAST this season. With Gomes averaging 19.8 ppg and Brewington averaging 14.3 ppg, the duo has combined to average 34.1 points per game -- one of the top figures in the BIG EAST. FRIARS DEFEATED WEST VIRGINIA... The last time the Friars played without point guard junior Donnie McGrath (Katonah, N.Y) the team made a BIG EAST school record 30 turnovers in an overtime loss to Villanova on January 11. West Virginia took advantage of an ankle injury to McGrath just 12 minutes into the game and forced the Friars to make 27 turnovers. The Mountaineers converted on those turnovers to score half of their total points (41) off of turnovers. West Virginia held a 13-point lead with 8:14 remaining in the game and withstood a Friar comeback over the final minutes to earn an win on January 29 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The Mountaineers were an impressive from three-point territory. West Virginia held Friar senior Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) to just four points through the first 33 minutes of the game until he erupted for 19 points over the final 7:24 of the contest. Sophomore Dwight Brewington (Lynn, Mass.) added 19 points and six rebounds. Senior Tuukka Kotti (Forssa, Finland) chipped in 14 points and a game-high seven rebounds. FRIARS HAVE SECOND TOUGHEST SCHEDULE IN THE NATION... According to the most recent report from RPIRatings.com (Jan. 26), the Friars have played the second toughest schedule in the nation. Only Kansas with a RPI of 1 has played a more difficult schedule. The Friars are one of two BIG EAST schools with a top-10 schedule (St. John's has played the sixth toughest schedule). Five of the Friars' first 19 opponents this season have a RPI Rating in the BREWINGTON REGISTERS 19 POINTS VERSUS WEST VIRGINIA... Sophomore guard Dwight Brewington (Lynn, Mass.) registered 96 points in the Friars' loss to West Virginia on January 29. For Brewington, it marked the 15th time in 19 games this season that he scored 10 or more points. In the PC's last four games, he is averaging 18.5 points per game. On January 15, he scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the Friars' loss to No. 7 Syracuse. It marked the fourth time this season that he registered 20 or more points in a game and the first time since he scored 23 points versus Michigan on November 26. Brewington is second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game. FRIARS RANKED FOURTH IN THE NA- TION IN BLOCKS... In the most recent rankings released by the NCAA on January 24, the Friars ranked fourth in the nation in blocked shots. Through 19 games, the Friars are averaging 6.5 blocks per game. Entering the week, Connecticut led the nation, averaging 10.2 blocks per contest. FRIARS SHOOT 50 PERCENT... The Friars shot an impressive 57 percent (30-53) in their loss to West Virginia on January 29. It marked the fifth time this season that PC shot over 50 percent from the field. It also marked the first time the Friars shot over 50 percent from the field and lost. In the Friars win at San Diego State on December 31, the team shot 50 percent. The Friars shot 50 percent or better in each of their first three games of the season. On MONDAY'S GAME... Monday's game will be the Friars' 20th contest of the season. The Friars will be looking to end a three-game losing streak versus the Panthers. Providence's last victory in Pittsburgh was an win on December 30, The Friars also will attempt to end a sixgame losing streak and win their first BIG EAST game of the season. The Friars will attempt to earn their first win of the season over a ranked team in their sixth game against a nationally ranked foe. FRIARS ONE WIN FROM 400 AT THE DUNK'... In 33 seasons of action at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, the Friars have posted a (.713) mark. The Friars need one victory to earn their 400th win at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The Friars did not lose a game at the Dunk' in their first two seasons in the building (1973 and 1974). GOMES STRIVING FOR 2,000 POINTS AND 1,000 REBOUNDS... Senior Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) ranks sixth all-time at PC in rebounds with 940. He needs just 60 rebounds to reach 1,000 for his career. Gomes, who also needs just 155 points to reach 2,000 in his career, can become the first Friar ever to register 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in his career. With his 23 points versus West Virginia on January 29, Friar senior forward Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) moved into fourth place all-time in scoring at Providence with 1,845 points. He needs 126 points to move into the third spot all-time at PC and surpass Jamel Thomas who recorded 1,971 points in 124 games. Gomes has scored 1,845 points in 104 games. GOMES 155 POINTS SHY OF 2, Friar senior forward Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) ranks fourth all-time in scoring at Providence with 1,845 points. He needs just 155 points to become the third Friar ever to score 2,000 points. The other two PC players to score more than 2,000 points in their careers were Jimmy Walker ( ) with 2045 points and Eric Murdock ( ) with 2021 points. Gomes needs 201 points to become the Friars' all-time leading scorer. In his rookie season, Gomes scored 332 points in 24 games (13.8 ppg). As a sophomore, he registered 589 points in 32 games (18.4 ppg) and as a junior he scored 547 points in 29 games (18.9 ppg). In , Gomes is averaging 19.8 ppg. FRIAR ALL-TIME TOP SCORERS 1. Senior forward Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) ranks in the top five in the BIG EAST in rebounding (8.8 rpg) and scoring (19.8 ppg). He also ranks in the top 15 in steals (1.84 spg), field goal percentage (50.7 percent), free throw percentage (73.9 percent) and assists (3.36 apg). He is the only player in the league ranked in the top-15 in all six categories. FRIARS ON NATIONAL TELEVISION... The Friars have appeared on national television five times this season, posting a record of 3-2 record in those games. Four of the contests were televised on ESPN 2 and one game was on CBS. The Friars have appeared on national tv 149 times. Providence has posted a mark all-time in games televised on national tv. The Friars have registered a 7-6 record on NBC, a 7-22 mark on CBS, a record on ESPN and an mark in games televised on ESPN2. WHITE ADDING PRODUCTION... Freshman forward DeSean White (Philadelphia, Pa.) made his first collegiate start versus Rutgers on January 19. White responded with 10 points, five rebounds and six assists in 29 minutes of action. He has scored in double figures in four of his last eight games. He added eight points in the Friars' game versus Boston College on January 26. In the Friars' loss to Syracuse on January 15, the freshman forward recorded 14 points and grabbed four rebounds. For the season, White is averaging 5.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. GOMES REGISTERS HIS 39TH CAREER DOUBLE-DOUBLE... Senior Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) recorded his 39th career double-double with his 28 points and 11 rebounds versus Villanova on January 11. Gomes is the active career leader for double-doubles in the BIG EAST. Syracuse's Hakim Warrick is second to Gomes with 36 career double-doubles. Gomes has posted five double-doubles this season. Last season, he registered 13 double-doubles. He had a career-high 17 double-doubles as a sophomore. GERALD BROWN INJURED... Sophomore guard Gerald Brown (Baltimore, Md.) injured his foot in the Friars' loss to Villanova on January 11. He has not played in the last four games. Brown made the first start of his collegiate career versus Villanova on January 11. He is averaging 7.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. FRIARS LEAD THE BIG EAST IN STEALS... The Friars have made a league leading 184 steals this season. The Friars lead the BIG EAST, averaging 9.7 steals per game. The team had a seasonhigh 23 steals versus Maine on December 21. Senior Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) has a team best 35 steals this season. HILL JUST MISSES TRIPLE-DOUBLE... Sophomore Herbert Hill (Kinston, N.C.) nearly recorded a triple-double in the Friars' loss to Villanova on January 11. Hill finished one block shy of a triple-double. He recorded career-highs of 15 points, 12 rebounds and nine blocks in the game. For Hill it was his first career doubledouble. The last Friar to register a triple-double was Karim Shabazz with 25 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks versus Long Island on December 27, He is averaging 5.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. FRIARS ESTABLISH BLOCK RECORDS... With their 16 blocks against Villanova on January 11, the Friars established a team record for blocks in a game. The team was one block shy of tying the BIG EAST single-game mark of 17 blocks established by Georgetown on February 22, The previous Friar record was 14 blocks, which had occurred three times in the past. Sophomore Herbert Hill (Kinston, N.C.) led the team with nine blocks, which tied the Friar BIG EAST singlegame mark. Marcus Douthit also registered nine blocks versus Connecticut on March 5, HANKE SETS FRIAR FRESHMAN RECORD WITH NINE BLOCKS: Friar freshman center Randall Hanke (New York, N.Y.) registered nine blocks in the second half of the Friars win at Memphis on December 23. He also registered seven rebounds in 19 minutes of action versus the Tigers. With his nine blocks, Hanke established the Friar freshman record for blocks in a game. The previous record was eight blocks which was set by Bob Cooper versus Cal-Irvine on January 7, Hanke leads the Friars in blocks with 41 and ranks fourth in the BIG EAST with 2.28 blocks per game. FRIARS TO HONOR '73 FINAL FOUR TEAM... Providence College will honor the 1973 Providence College men's basketball team and its Head Coach Dave Gavitt on Saturday, February 19 in Providence. The 1973 Friars will be honored at halftime of the PC vs. Notre Dame game which tips off at noon on February 19 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Following the game, a reception and a dinner honoring the team and its accomplishments will be held at the Westin Hotel in Downtown Providence beginning at 4:00 p.m. Dave Gavitt will serve as the master of ceremony for the tribute, which is titled "A Year To Remember." The 1973 Friar men's basketball team registered a 27-4 mark and advanced to NCAA Final Four. It is remembered as one of the finest seasons in the history of Friar basketball. GOMES NAMED BIG EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK ON DECEMBER Senior forward Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) was named BIG EAST men's basketball Co-Player of the Week on Monday, December 27. Pittsburgh's Carl Krauser also earned the Co-Player of the Week honor. For Gomes, who earned Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year honors and Preseason All-America accolades, it marked the sixth time in his career and the first time this season that he received the BIG EAST Player of the Week award. Gomes joined former Friar Jamel Thomas as the only players at Providence to earn BIG EAST Player of the Week six times in a career. Gomes posted one double-double and averaged 24.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in two games to earn the honor. He also shot (.581)

On December 21, he recorded his third doubledouble of the season and the 37th of his career when he posted 25 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in a victory over Maine at the Dunkin Donuts Center. On December 23, Gomes scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Friars defeated Memphis, 72-59, in Memphis. FRIARS VISIT CALIFORNIA... The Friars' game at San Diego State on December 31 was the team's first game in California since the Friars won at Loyola Marymount, 83-76, on December 28, Providence is now 7-4 all-time in games played in California. The Friars are 1-0 at San Diego State, 0-1 at UCLA, 1-0 at Loyola Marymount, 1-3 at the University of San Francisco, 1-0 at USC and 3-0 at Santa Clara. IMPRESSIVE NUMBERS VERSUS MAINE... In the Friars' win over Maine on December 21, the team posted some impressive numbers with 104 points, 26 assists, 45 rebounds, 23 steals and 29 turnovers forced. The 104 points scored was the team's highest output since scoring 119 versus Binghamton on February 22, The 26 assists was the most assists by a Friar team since PC recorded 26 versus St. John's on February 29, The Friars' 23 steals was one shy of the Providence record of 24, which was established on December 21, 1996 versus Brown. Lastly, the 29 turnovers committed by the Black Bears was the most by a Friar opponent since Morgan State made 29 turnovers on December 27, POINT GAME... The Friars' win over Maine on December 21 marked the 68th time in Providence history that the team has scored 100 or more points in a game. The Friars accomplished the feat three times last season. KOTTI RECORDS CAREER HIGH... Senior Tuukka Kotti (Forssa, Finland) registered a career-high 22 points in the Friars' loss to Wichita State on December 11. He also recorded career highs in free throws made (12) and free throws attempted (15). The senior is having a strong season, averaging 9.7 ppg and 5.5 rpg. Last season, he averaged 6.1 ppg and 3.6 rpg. FRIARS REACH 1,200 VICTORIES... With the Friars' win over Michigan on November 26, the team earned its 1,200th victory alltime. The Friars' all-time record is 1, (.610). Providence is the fourth team in New England to earn its 1,200th victory. Three other programs in New England that have earned 1,200 victories are Connecticut, Rhode Island and Yale. OVERTIME GAMES... With the Friars' loss to Villanova on January 11 in overtime the team fell to all-time in overtime games. BREWINGTON NAMED TO THE ALL- TOURNAMENT TEAM... Sophomore Dwight Brewington (Lynn, Mass.) tied his career high with 23 points in the Friars' win over Michigan in the Consolation Game of the Preseason NIT on November 26. He also recorded seven rebounds, six assists, three blocks and four steals in the win. After the win over Michigan, Brewington was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Preseason NIT. In the four games of the Preseason NIT, he averaged 21.5 ppg and 6.3 rpg. In addition to his 23 points versus Michigan, he also scored 23 points versus No. 1 Wake Forest on November 24, 19 points against Niagara on November 16 and 21 points versus Pennsylvania on November 18. PROVIDENCE ALL-TIME... In 78 seasons of PC basketball, the team has posted a 1, (.610) mark. The team's all-time record at the Dunkin' Donuts Center is (.712). The Providence College men's basketball team was picked to finish sixth of 12 schools in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll released on Wednesday, October 27 at the BIG EAST Media Day at Madison Square Garden in New York. Syracuse was picked first in the Conference, followed by defending national champion Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Boston College. HEAD COACH TIM WELSH... Friar Head Coach Tim Welsh has coached for seven seasons at Providence. Welsh has posted a mark at Providence. Prior to coming to Providence, Welsh was the head coach at Iona College where he recorded a mark. In his nine seasons as a head coach, Welsh has compiled a (.614) record. He has brought three teams to the NCAA Tournament. His 1998 Iona team and his 2001 and 2004 Providence squads qualified for the NCAA Tournament. WELSH LEADS PC COACHES ALL-TIME IN BIG EAST WINS... EFEJUKU, KALE AND HOSLEY TO ATTEND PROVIDENCE... Providence College men s basketball coach Tim Welsh announced that studentathletes Weyinmi Efejuku (Queens, N.Y.), Jonathan Kale (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Quinten Hosley (Denver, Colo.) have signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College beginning in September Efejuku, a 6-foot-4- inch, 205-pound guard attended Rice High School in Manhattan for the past three seasons. Currently, he is attending Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H. In at Rice, Efejuku averaged 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists per game. Last summer, Efejuku played AAU basketball for the New York Gauchos. Kale, a 6-foot-8-inch, 245-pound forward attends St. Andrew s in Barrington, R.I. Last season, he averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds per game while helping St. Andrew s post a 25-7 mark. Kale, who grew up in Mattapan, Mass., was a student Burke High School, before attending St. Andrew s. He has played for the BABC AAU team during the summer. Hosley, a 6-foot-7-inch, 220-pound wing/guard attended Lamar Community College the last two seasons. In 2004, Hosley averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.1 steals.
