In 2014, Providence earned a win over Creighton in the Championship game. Providence vs. Villanova: The Friars have posted a mark all-time versus the Wildcats. The Friars are at home, on the road and 1-10 on neutral courts all-time against Villanova. The two teams first met on February 15, 1926 with the Friars earning a win in Providence. In the first meeting this season between the two teams, Villanova defeated the Friars, 89-69, on January 23 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. In the second meeting this season, the Friars earned a win on February 14 in Providence. Scouting The Wildcats: No. 2/3 Villanova has posted an 29-4 mark overall and a 14 record in BIG EAST action. The Wildcats were picked first in the Preseason BIG EAST Coaches' Poll. In the team's most recent game, Villanova earned an win over Butler on March 9. The Wildcats are led in scoring by junior guard Jalen Brunson. He is averaging 19.0 points per game. Brunson, the Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year, also is leading the team in assists (4.7 apg). Redshirt freshman Omari Spellman is leading the team in rebounding (7.8 rpg). He ranks fifth on the team in scoring (10.9 ppg).

5 Game Notes Friars Reach BIG EAST Finals For Third Time History Of BIG EAST: With the Friars' overtime win over No. 3/2 Xavier in the BIG EAST Semifinals, the Friars secured their third trip to the BIG EAST Championship game all-time. In 1994, the Friars defeated Georgetown (74-64) to win the team's first BIG EAST title. In 2014, Providence captured its second BIG EAST Tournament title with a victory over Creighton. Friars Win Back To Back BIG EAST Tournament Games In Overtime: Providence became just the second team in BIG EAST Tournament history to win back-to-back overtime games. Syracuse won a quarterfinal game and a semifinal game in OT in How The Friars Got Here: Providence was picked fourth in the Preseason BIG EAST Coaches' Poll. The Friars finished tied for third with Seton Hall and Creighton. Seton Hall held the tiebreaker with the two other teams to earn the No. 3 seed. Creighton held the tiebreaker over the Friars with a 3-1 record in the mini conference of the three teams, making the Bluejays the four seed and the Friars the five seed. The Friars advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals with a win over Creighton in the Quarterfinals. PC then earned a overtime win over No. 3/2 Xavier to advance to Saturday's Championship game. Friars All-Time At Madison Square Garden: The Friars have posted a mark all-time at Madison Square Garden. The Friars have won two NIT Titles (1961 and 1963) and two BIG EAST titles (1994 and 2014) at the world's most famous arena. Friars Looking To Make Fifth Consecutive NCAA Tournament Appearance For The First Time Ever: This season, the Friars are looking to make their fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. Friars have never made five consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2017, the Friars made their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. The team advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of the previous four seasons (2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017). Bullock Reaches 1000 Career Points: Senior forward Rodney Bullock (Hampton, Va.) scored 20 points in the Friars' win over Boston College on November 25. Friars Nail 16 Threes At St. John's: The Providence men s basketball team opened BIG EAST play in style defeating St. John s, 94-72, at Carnesecca Arena on December 28. Friars Capture 2K Classic: Providence won all four of its games of the 2K Classic. 8 Game Notes Four New Friars Set To Join Team As A Highly Ranked Recruiting Class For : Men s basketball coach Ed Cooley announced on November 9 that student-athletes David Duke (Providence, R.I.), A.J. Reeves (Roxbury, Mass.), Jimmy Nichols (Conway, S.C.), and Kris Monroe (Raleigh, N.C.) each signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College beginning in the fall of The four student-athletes formulate a highly anticipated Friar recruiting class, which is ranked in the top-30 by ESPN.com (No. 30), Rivals.com (No. 13), and 247sports.com (No. 11). Duke, a 6-foot-5-inch, 175-pound guard attends Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass., where he is coached by James Cormier. As a junior, Duke averaged 16.0 points per game. While at Cushing, Duke became one of the more highly coveted recruits in the country. Duke played AAU basketball for Mass Rivals. A Providence native, Duke is rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN.com, Rivals.com, and 247sports.com. Cooley Earned Win No. 100 With PC: The Friars' win over Creighton on March 2, 2016 was Ed Cooley's 100th victory as a Friar head coach. He joined Joe Mullaney ( ), Dave Gavitt (209-84), Al McClellan (147-65), Tim Welsh ( ) and Rick Barnes (108-76) as PC coaches who have 100 or more wins. He has a mark in seven seasons as the Friars head coach. Providence College Building Ruane Friar Development Center: It was announced on December 15 that a new gift from former Providence College Board of Trustees Chair Michael A. Ruane 71 & 13 Hon. and his wife, Elizabeth Ruane, would enable Providence College to begin construction of the Ruane Friar Development Center, a new multi-purpose facility that will significantly enhance Friar athletics, student services, and College community life. The College began construction of Phase I of the project which will include a new two-story structure attached to Alumni Hall in June That facility will include a basketball practice facility (with two courts), men's basketball offices, a strength and conditioning complex, a locker room, and a dinning room. Friars In Overtime: The Friars have posted a 3-1 mark in overtime games this season. The team defeated Brown, 77-72, in overtime in Providence on December 6. On January 3, Providence was defeated at home, in overtime by Marquette. On March 8, the Friars earned a victory overtime win over Creighton in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals. "DG" Patch On Friar Uniforms: In memory of former Friar Head Coach Dave Gavitt the Friars have worn a "DG" patch on their uniforms since the seaon. Gavitt led PC and Eastern basketball into the modern age. In 10 seasons as the head coach of the Friars, Gavitt led PC to 209 wins, including eight consecutive 20-win seasons, five NCAA appearances, three NIT appearances and five New England Coach of the Year honors. He led the Friars to 23 wins over Top-20 teams. His 1973 team made it to Final Four. In 1971, Gavitt was named Director of Athletics at PC, a position he held until 1982 when he resigned to be the director of the BIG EAST Conference. He also was named Head Coach of the 1980 USA Olympic basketball team.
