3 Welcome Netball Scotland would like to thank you for entering the Scottish s Cup Competition. You may not know it just yet, but there has never been a more exciting time for you and your schools to be involved in Scottish netball. As we all start to gear up and work towards the Commonwealth Games here in Scotland in 2014, Netball Scotland are also in the early stages of working towards another sensational netball event being held in Scotland.. The World Youth Championships hosted by Glasgow in the summer of The next few years are going to provide some fantastic opportunities for not only our netballing stars, but for our Coaches, Umpires, Match Officials, Volunteers and of course, our outstanding supporters. It is imperative that we, as Scottish netball enthusiasts, engage as many of the other netball enthusiasts out there, and work together to make the most of the upcoming opportunities to really cement Scotland s position on the netball map. In a way, this has already begun. The Scottish s Cup has yet again seen an increase in the number of entries into the competition, and we are thrilled to welcome new entries from schools from the Scottish Highlands, Morayshire, Aberdeen, Angus, Edinburgh and North Lanarkshire. The format of this year s competition will remain the same as last, with regional section games followed by a knockout stage. The top 2 teams from each section will be placed into the GOLD section and the others placed into silver and bronze sections. Unfortunately there are some regional sections where travelling will be required. Should schools wish to set up neutral venues or play games over a weekend in any of the sections, please get in touch with your opponents. In this handbook you will note the rules of the competition, the draws for each section and a match report sheet (to be sent to the relevant Convenor). The results will also be recorded on the Netball Scotland website ( I am pleased to report that Ann Lafferty, Marie Doyle and Joanne Lilly have returned as Scottish s Cup Convenors for another season. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their hard work in arranging this year s draws and also thank them in advance for their work in the coming months. Please can all schools note at the bottom of each draw the person results should be sent to. Netball Scotland would like to wish all teams the very best for this year s competition, and we very much look forward to yet another fantastic year of s netball, and to another great day at the Scottish s Cup Finals. Gillian Stewart Membership and Competitions Development Officer Netball Scotland Welcome to all players, Umpires, Coaches and hardworking Volunteers to what is shaping up to be another exciting year of Scottish netball. As Gillian said, this is a very exciting time in Scottish netball with two of the most prestigious events in the netball calendar coming to Scotland in 2013 (the World Youth Championships) and 2014 (the Commonwealth Games). These events will not only provide some of you with excellent playing and volunteering opportunities, but will also provide a platform for some of the most exciting netball players in the world to wow our spectators. The newly appointed Youth Competitions Group is thrilled to be working in partnership with Netball Scotland to drive forward our Youth Competitions in the coming years and to ensure that our players and volunteers are able to take advantage of the fabulous opportunities knocking on our door in the impending seasons. I look forward to being involved this season not only as the Chair of the Youth Competitions Group, and as a Coach (Douglas Ewart ), but also as keen netballer and umpire, watching our sport to continue to grow in Scotland. Best of luck to you all for this coming year. Janine Spice Chair Youth Competitions Group 3
