1 LIBERTY COUNTY 4-H Newsletter August 2018 What's inside? Thanks to those who helped out by volunteering with the many jobs at the Marias Fair this year. We couldn't do it without you! If you participated in the Marias Fair please take a moment to look over the list of just some of the volunteers that helped out this year and send out a couple of thank you cards. Don t forget that as the 4-H year ends September 30th. Record books need to be checked for completion by leaders and turned into the Extension office before September 15th. The Clover magazine which lists 4-H projects is now available at the office for those looking to start a new project for next year. 4-H Council Meeting and Achievement Night The Liberty County 4-H Council meeting is set for Tuesday, August 28th at 5:15. Although a date has not officially been picked for Achievement Night we ve been having it on the last Sunday in September which has worked out well with the new year starting the first of October. Achievement Night is a night where we recognize our 4-H members and leaders accomplishments throughout the year. If you d like to serve on the planning committee in any way please either contact the Extension office or come to the next 4-H council meeting. Your input is greatly appreciated! Carcass Awards Show The carcass awards show will be Tuesday, July 31st in Shelby at Exhibit Building at the fairgrounds, and Wednesday, August 1st at the Glacier County Library, both at 6:30 p.m. The evening will consist of a fun, carcass oriented learning program, followed by swine and lamb carcass awards and distribution of checks. 2 Liberty County Tips for Record Books The 4-H year is winding down. Record books are required to be turned in at the end of each 4-H year. The deadline for Liberty County is September 15th. Be sure to turn in to your 4-H Leader to check for completeness. Record books help you indicate what you did and what you learned. Here are a few tips: Make sure all record sheets are signed first page, livestock, etc. Your first page should be your "My 4-H " page followed by your project, animal and non-animal pages. Place the current year in the front of your book with the past years towards the back. Include a picture of you if possible on the My 4-H Year form. You may use on-line forms found at or request paper copies from the Extension office. Include year tabs on the side. Write goals for your project and 4-H year at the beginning of the year. Be sure to include all projects for which you enrolled. If you did not complete a project, add a note to say that you didn't get it completed. Proofread. When listing project costs be sure to include all costs. Assign a fair market price to items that you didn't have to pay for out of pocket. List any profit made, including premium money for ribbons earned at the fair. Montana Leadership Forum The 2018 State 4-H Leadership Forum will be September 28-29,in Dillon, MT on the beautiful Western Montana Campus. Registration is now open on the Montana 4-H website under programs. programs/events/leadership-forum.html Why should you attend? 1. Great workshops 2.
