1 Pennsylvania Quarter Horse Youth Association Dear PQHYA Member, January 2019 I am very excited for the 2019 show season together! I know we will have a fun and productive year! For any new members who might not know me, I ve been involved with PQHA and PQHYA for my entire life. I grew up showing horses in PQHA and was very involved as a youth. I was the PQHYA Vice President 2015 through I was also heavily involved in AQHYA and served as the AQHYA First Vice President, as well as the Region Five Director I just became an amatuer this year and I wanted to stay involved in the youth association as the advisor. I currently attend York College of Pennsylvania studying Supply Chain Operations Management, and plan to continue showing as an amatuer this year. In addition to being your youth advisor this year, I will also be the PQHA Queen. I am looking forward to an exciting year with all of you! I highly encourage each and every one of you to get further involved with AQHYA, whether that be by attending the Youth Excellence Seminar and/or the Region 5 Youth Leadership Conference, or by even running for a national officer/board member position with AQHYA- you will not regret it! Also, if you are interested in continuing your passion for horses in college, I encourage you to look into NCAA or IHSA Collegiate Equestrian Teams. This annual youth packet will include (All items also available via PQHA Website): 2019 Calendar of Events (youth meetings, qualifying dates, and other important dates) Letter of Intent (due back to me NO LATER THAN April 15 th ) PQHYA Team Requirements, Team Incentive Rules, & Committee List PQHA Membership & Year End Point Nomination Forms o (due to Shelly Weaver NO LATER THAN May 1 st ) o Meetings: For meetings listed on the Calendar page All of our meetings usually take place the Saturday of the listed weekend and, unless otherwise stated, will be held at the end of the show day. Locations are announced on the show grounds the day of the meeting. If you have any questions about meeting location or time PLEASE text, call, or me! Work Hours: To be eligible for Congress and/or World Show team, you MUST work at least 14 hours at the two PQHYA run events. These events (Winning Ways Clinic and PQHYA Youth Show) are listed on the calendar. Another adult or I will keep a total of your hours based on your sign in sheets. REMEMBER TO SIGN IN ANY TIME YOU ARE WORKING! If you don t sign in on the time sheet, your hours will not be counted- NO EXCEPTIONS.

2 AQHYA World Show Team Qualifying Dates: There are 5 shows that count for state qualifying for the AQHYA world show. 2 dates from last year (2018) and 3 dates from the current year (2019). June 23-24, KQHA Showdown 2018 (first 2 judges alphabetically count for points) July 21-22, PQHA Mid-Summer Madness Show 2018 (first 2 judges alphabetically count for points) May 2019 TSQHA Show With A View May 2019 PQHA Summer Kick Off Show May 2019 WPQHA Memorial Day Show *** NEW IN Since the PQHA & WPQHA May shows will be held the same weekend, we have voted to make both of those shows double pointed towards World Show Qualifying. That way you still have access to the same amount of judges as you would if they were not conflicting dates*** Congress NYATT Team Qualifying Dates: The qualifying period for congress team is May 1 st -July 21 st. Reminder: The top 60% of shows, out of the total number of PQHA approved shows (PQHA, TSQHA, KQHA, or WPQHA show) in that time period, will count towards congress team qualifying. At least 1 of those shows MUST be a PQHA show. Special Event Category: The special events would be the events that we do not offer at our PQHA shows (Roping, Jumping, Team Penning, etc.). If these exhibitors still want to be eligible for financial aid from PQHYA AND get their walk-in outfit paid for at youth world, they must complete all the requirements that any other team member has to OR they have the option to do the $100 Fundraiser buyout and only receive a paid walk-in outfit from PQHYA. New in Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, & Reining have been added to the special event category due to low entries at the Pennsylvania AQHA shows. 6 2019 PQHYA TEAM REQUIREMENTS Must be a member in good standing with PQHYA & PQHA AND you must nominate for both PQHYA & PQHA points o DEADLINE MAY 1 ST (Send copy to Kylie for her records) Submit PQHYA Letter of Intent to Kylie Good o DEADLINE APRIL 15 TH (NO EXCEPTIONS) Must attend at least 2 meetings by June 1 st (Meetings listed on Calendar & Notified via ) Must Participate in ALL Fundraisers including Easter Candy o $100 Minimum Sales on ALL Fundraisers (excluding 50/50 sales) OR $100 buyout option per fundraiser Work at least 14 hours between the 2 PQHYA Events o Winning Ways Clinic in March & PQHA Mid-Summer Madness Show in July SPECIAL EVENT CATEGORIES Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, & Reining have been added to the Special Event Category If you compete in any events that we do not offer at PQHA Shows (Roping, Hunter Jumpers, etc.) and would like to receive team benefits you must do either of the following: o Meet all team requirements listed above to be eligible for financial aid from PQHYA and includes paid team outfit for youth world/congress OR o Pay the $100 Fundraiser buyouts to be eligible for ONLY the paid team outfit at youth world/congress o Abide by the Letter of Intent, Membership, & Point Nomination rules listed above

9 PQHYA Team Expense Guidelines - If you are a PQHYA member and have completed all of the necessary requirements to be on a team (World Show and/or Congress) you will receive $150 PER team for towards your expenses. If you make both teams you will receive $150 towards both. For kids with multiple horses, you will still only receive $150 per team NOT per horse. If you are a PQHYA member and have completed all of the necessary requirements and did NOT make a team, you will receive $150 towards your choice of expenses at the July show OR towards your year-end awards.
