1 Murray County 4-H Newsletter M urray County OSU Extension Office 4-H Honors Night You, and your parents are invited to attend 4-H Honors Night, Tuesday April 15, 2008, beginning at Building Heroes is the theme of this years 4-H Camp. 4-H Camp will once again be a Tri County Camp along with Murray, Marshall and Pontotoc County 4-H members in attendance. Camp will be held at Texhoma Christian camp near Kingston. If you are 9 years old to 13 6:00pm. The evening will be held at the Murray County Expo Center. This will be a special evening to honor 4-H members for their hard work and dedication to the 4-H Program. Awards will be given out for a variety of Special Achievements through out the year. Please don t forget to invite your parents. The 4-H Volunteer Council will be providing a full meal, and we would like for your parents to see all the opportunities 4-H has to offer. Be- 4-H Camp / Counselor applications years old and have just completed the 7th grade you are eligible to attend. The cost of camp is $30 and the 4-H Leaders Council will pay the other $20. Camp dates are June 4, 5, and 6.The DEADLINE to sign up for camp is April 30, To put your name on the list you must pay a portion or all of the camp fee. Names will be put on the camp list on a first come basis, and then a waiting list will be started. TEENS: if you are 13 and have completed the 8th grade or older you are eligible to apply for camp counselor. To apply come by the OSU Extension Office and pick up an application, fill it out and bring it back to the office. Then a time will be scheduled for an interview. The interview and application together will determine who will be selected for camp counselor. The cost will be $50 and the 4-H Leaders Council will pay $20. Qualification are as follows: *COUNTY OFFICER TEAM* 4-H members must have the following qualifications to be eligible to interview for the county officer team: 1. Must be 14 years of age by January Must have submitted a county or state record book in the previous year. 3. Must be currently enrolled in 4-H club work. 4. Must complete an application and attend a scheduled interview. 5. Members of the officer Team cannot miss two or more meetings without a reasonable excuse, or they will be relieved of their duties. Four applicants will be selected for the County Officer Team through an interview process. After being chosen the officers will rotate their duties. *COUNTY OFFICER TEAM IN TRAINING* 4-H members must have the following qualifications to be eligible to interview for the county officer in training team. 1. Must be 13 years of age by January Must have submitted a county record book in the previous year. 3. Must be currently enrolled in 4-H club work. 4. Must complete an applica- tion and attend a scheduled interview. 5. Members of the officer in training team cannot miss two or more meetings with out a reasonable ex- cuse, or they will be re- lieved of their duties. DEADLINE for Officer Team applications is April 25, 2008 (New officers will be selected before school is out for the summer) SUMMER WORKSHOPS Summer workshops will begin in June. Every Wednesday, beginning on June 11th will be a fun activity. Listed below are each of the workshops: Workshop times (9:00am-12:00) June 11 - is a food workshop (Deadline to sign up is June 6) June 18 - is a rocket workshop (Deadline to sign up is June 13) June 25 - is a craft workshop (Deadline to sign up is June 20) Please remember to sign up for the workshops so that enough supplies can be purchased. The 4-H Motto is - To Make The Best Better TEENS Teens if you are interested in doing a workshop. Call the Extension Office and let us know so we can get it scheduled. Doing a workshop will be fun as well as looking great in your record book.

3 April Page 3 State 4-H Round-Up Habitat for Humanities POP TABS This year 4-H Round-Up is July 30, 31 and August 1, on the OSU Campus, in Stillwater. It is so late in the summer because of scheduling problems with other camps on campus. At this time we don t have much information about round-up. If you are 13 as of January 1, have turned in a 4-H Record Book and want to attend. Call the OSU Extension Office by May 30 to get your name on the list to go. We are not sure of the cost, but guess it will be around $75 to $85 this is only a guess. At our last 4-H Community Meeting Matthew Taylor visited with us about the Habitat for Humanities project and how 4-H was collecting money to build a 4-H Home for someone in need. If you would like to make a donation to help with this 4-H project this would be greatly appreciated. Matthew said if everyone would bring $ H would have enough money to build a house. Don t forget to turn in your Pop Tabs. This is a very easy way to help with a community service project. We all know someone who drinks pop from an aluminum can. Have them to save the tabs on the top of the can, you can then collect them to turn in. 4-H will turn all the tabs collected in to the Ronald McDonald House. Remember that one gallon of these tabs will take care of a family of four at the Ronald McDonald House for a week. What an easy way to help someone.
