2 On the Cover Sunsailing on the beach, circa Transportation During The Holiday Period To alleviate some parking challenges during this busy time, we have added several options to make getting to and from The Cloister and the Beach Club easier. Monday, July 2 Saturday, July 7 Parking on Sea Island Will be available in the Beach Club upper and lower decks and tennis courts at The Cloister. Once the decks are full, parking will be available at The Inn at Sea Island on Sea Island Road just west of Island Cinemas. Shuttles will go to and from the Beach Club on a continuous basis. Parking will not be permitted on the Sea Island Causeway. For Cottage Guests and Sea Island residents Transportation will run continuous loops approximately every 15 minutes between The Cloister, the Beach Club, and 56th Street on Sea Island at the times below. Monday, July 2, noon 12 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 8 a.m. 12 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, 8 a.m. 12 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 8 a.m. 12 a.m. Friday, July 6, 8 a.m. 1 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 8 a.m. 1 a.m. Shuttles will stop at every fifth street, picking up from both sides of Sea Island Drive. Street Closure During the parade on July 4th, Sea Island Drive will be temporarily closed from approximately 9:45 11:15 a.m. from the Security Gate to 5th street. Shuttles will also stop during this time. FOR THE PARADE: Candy may not be thrown from moving vehicles or floats. It may, however, be distributed by parade walkers. Pre-registered guests may check in the day before the race at the Fitness Center from 4:30 8 p.m. or at 7 a.m. day-of at the Beach Club. Price includes commemorative t-shirt and graband-go breakfast. Top finishers will be awarded prizes at the end of the race. Pre-registration, $45/person. Walk-up registration day-of, $50/person. Sea Island Book Launch at the Beach Club, 10:30 11:30 a.m. Introducing Sea Island s new book, Soul of the South History, Recipes & Traditions, by Sarah Anschutz Hunt. Friday, July 6 National Geographic Live presents "View from Above" with NASA Astronaut Terry Virts in The Cloister Ballroom, 5:30 p.m. In View From Above, NASA Astronaut Terry Virts will highlight his experiences as the pilot of the space shuttle Endeavour, as a crew member on Russia s Soyuz spacecraft and as the commander of the International Space Station. Having spent at least 200 consecutive days in space, he underwent one of the longest continuous missions of any NASA astronaut. In addition to sharing his stories, Virts will showcase his space photography, featuring aerial views of earth and depictions of the vastness of space, which is the main focus of his new National Geographic book, View From Above: An Astronaut Photographs the World. Released last October, the book also includes written accounts of his space travel. Complimentary. Books will be available for purchase. 9 International Space Station Commander Terry Virts helped to install the outpost s 360-degree observation module, which not only helped him to take more photos than any astronaut before him, but gives those who see the images a deeper understanding of our planet s beauty, climate, and place in the universe. Failure to cancel within the noted time frame will result in a $25/ person charge. Equestrian will be charged the full cost of the activity. All no-show reservations, that are not cancelled, will be charged the full rate of the event or activity. Bingo no-show reservations and cancellations within 48 hours will be charged $50/person. Broadfield requires cancellations 72 hours prior to activity. Broadfield cancellations within 72 hours will be charged the full cost of the activity.
