We are all glad to have Mike back. We continue to pray and wish him a full recovery. Christmas Party!! The plans for the club's Christmas Party on December 16th have been transitioning because we made the arrangements based on a minimum of 50 participants (we had 56 last year). At this point, we have 34 signed up and we are working on getting a DJ so we can have music and dancing! The cost will remain $40.00 until all the details are worked out. If we have any more cancellations, we will not be able to have the party at River Bend Country Club and we must notify them by December 2nd. On the other hand, we still have another week to submit our final reservation count and menu choices, so please turn in your forms with menu choices and payment by Monday, December 7th. There will be no refunds after December 1st. Therefore, please call Doreen at by December 1st if you need to cancel or if you have any questions. USTA News: Registration for 2016 spring teams will begin January 2nd and end February 2nd. Play begins in March and ends in May, with championships May February 6-7: Coastal Plains and Neuse River will combine for a 2016 Spring Kickoff to be held at Greene Ridge Racquet Club. Details will be available at a later date. Times are a Changing! Start times will begin at 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. this month. Now that the cooler weather is here, Sunday afternoon is a nice time to come out and play tennis!
MIKE S COURT REPORT Monday Clinic: Cancelled for the month of December. Special Clinics and Drills can be arranged for teams and groups (minimum of 4). Private Lessons: $40.00 per hour. Call to schedule. Racquet Stringing: Yes. USTA Leagues: Our USTA Women's 6.5 Combo Leagues received a Wildcard and competed in the State Tournament in Wilmington in November. They had great team spirit and played well, but they did not place. We are forming a new 3.0 spring team for women. TENNIS TIP ~ Early on the Bounce ~ ln most shot selections, try to hit the ball before it drops too much. The better players hit the ball on the rise more often.

Merry Christmas! I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. Charles Dickens Want to keep Christ in Christmas? Feed the hungry, clothe the naked, forgive the guilty, welcome the unwanted, care for the ill, love your enemies, and do unto others as you would have done unto you. Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that? Bob Hope Christmas is doing a little something extra for someone. Charles M. Schulz Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful. Norman Vincent Peale I heard the bells on Christmas Day Their old, familiar carols play, And wild and sweet The words repeat Of peace on earth, good-will to men! Henry Wadsworth Longfellow In the old days, it was not called the Holiday Season; the Christians called it 'Christmas' and went to church; the Jews called it 'Hanukkah' and went to synagogue; the atheists went to parties and drank. People passing each other on the street would say 'Merry Christmas!' or 'Happy Hanukkah!' or (to the atheists) 'Look out for the wall! Dave Barry When we recall Christmas past, we usually find that the simplest things - not the great occasions - give off the greatest glow of happiness. Bob Hope Christmas, my child, is love in action. Dale Evans Rogers Jack Frost hibernates from March to November, dreaming snowflake designs to share in December. With glittering breath, snowstorms, and blue blizzards, lakes made of crystal, he s an icy wizard! People assume winter will be harsh, cold, and cruel and that Jack must be a wicked, cold-weather ghoul. But he s truly an artist, known as Bringer of Ice, and although his heart is cold, he s really quite nice. Claudine Carmel, Lucy Lick-Me-Not and the Greedy Gubbins: A Christmas Story
We had beautiful weather on our Club Work Day on October 31st and had a good turnout, including men and women. If you go to the club's website you can see more of the workday photos of busy club members with tools and paintbrushes in their hands. Most everything got a fresh coat of paint and the shrubbery got a good trimming.some more than others! A few honorable mentions include the superior craftsmanship on the deck repair medial corral that Peter Whittlesey built for the storage area in the back (street side) of the clubhouse. Tom Bierman is also a superb craftsman and has made more tables for the court sitting areas.
A huge thanks goes out to Tommaso and Ellen Serra for surveying and organizing a project list for the beautification of our club, including installing new locks, fixing plumbing, and many other repair jobs. When I notice our signage around the courts and parking lot areas, I am reminded of how dedicated Ed Hall has been, not only in the general maintenance area, but in his duties as club president and general oversight of the daily operations of the club. Larry Morris has spent considerable time repairing the sprinkler system and replacing sprinkler heads. He most recently installed a rain and temperature sensor that will turn off the system when we receive a quarter inch of rain, and also shut the system down when the temperature drops to 32 F or below. Also very helpful for our count maintenance and drainage issues is the ditch digging and grading once again by Jed Kennish with his very cool tractor thingy/ with a front end loader and claw in the back. Many other members were out with their clippers and trimmers. And the list goes on and on. Just around sunset one Sunday afternoon when most men would prefer to be home watching a ball game and relaxing, Brad Humphreys just showed up and began power washing the siding and areas around the clubhouse. We just want our members to know how much we appreciate their time, skill, talent and effort. It does not go unnoticed! Our members are always ready and willing to step in and give a hand when needed.
We have also had many members step in to fill Mike's shoes for the past month. Imagine that! It has actually taken many men to fill those shoes and if I were an artist I would try to illustrate all of these men wearing Mike's shoes!!! Ed Hall, Tommaso Serra, Dan Frey, Bob Murphy, Skip Bulkley, Billy Cumber, Peter Whittlesley, Jeff Hardy, Bob Ramsey, Ken Hartley and others. Now, does all this make us appreciate Mike even more? You bet!!! Once again, thanks to all!! The effort of all our members has kept our club running smoothly. Let's remain dedicated to great tennis and making our club a great place to play tennis. Now keep eating your Wheaties and we will see you on the courts!
