Three teams that appeared in last years NCAAs Central Florida, Washington and Florida Gulf Coast will make their way to Hawai i. UH will play a trio of Pac-12 opponents on the road in Oregon, Oregon State and Arizona. The Rainbow Wahine will have an eightgame Big West schedule after the departure of Pacific from the league. UH s plays nine home matches this year. The Rainbow Wahine went in 10 home matches last year. Peninsula Soccer Stadim. Match 3 & 4 Sept. 3, 2013 Hawai i (0-2) Embarks To Oregon For First Road Trip The University of Hawai i women s soccer team heads to Pac-12 territory for a pair of road matches this weekend in Oregon. The Rainbow Wahine will fi rst face Oregon on Friday, Sept. 6 (4:00 p.m. PT, 1:00 p.m. HT), before taking on Oregon State on Sunday, Sept. 8 (2:00 p.m. PT, 11:00 a.m. HT). Both matches can be seen live on the Pac-12 Network. It will be the team s fi rst road trip of the season and fi rst action on the pitch in nearly two weeks. The Rainbow Wahine (0-2) had this past weekend off after opening the season with the OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi tournament Aug. 23 & 25. UH looks to get in the win column after a pair of setbacks that weekend to UNC Greensboro (L, 1-0, 2OT) and then-no. 21 UCF (L, 2-0). Hawai i lost both matches despite out-shooting both opponents, including an astonishing 21-3 advantage against UNC Greensboro. It marked the fi rst time since early in the 2011 season that UH dropped back-to-back home matches. The Bows hope to end a road slump after going just away from the islands last season. Director/Soccer Contact Neal Iwamoto niwamoto@hawaii.edu Offi ce (808) Cell (808) Website HawaiiAthletics.com Bow Bites: UH is all-time in its fi rst road match of the year...uh went just on the road in 2012 and are just in their last 23 matches on the mainland the team s last road win came at UNLV (5-4) last September...UH is 3-25 all-time versus the Pac-12...one of the three wins was a 1-0 victory against Oregon in 1998 (other two wins versus USC)... this will be the fi rst two of three road matches versus Pac-12 squads this year...the Rainbow Wahine also play at Arizona on Sept junior Tiana Fujimoto (11 goals) is one goal shy of tying Nicki Arakawa (12) for 10th all-time on the UH scoring list... with its setbacks versus UNC Greensboro and UCF, UH dropped back-to-back home matches for the fi st time since early UH entered the season undefeated in 14 of its previous 15 home games...uh was shutout in its opening two matches of the season for only the second time in program history...the last time that happened was in 1996 (vs. #5 Stanford and #8 Maryland)...UH s loss to No. 21 UCF dropped the team to all-time versus ranked squads...fi ve freshman earned starting nods in the opening weekend, including four true freshman...one of those was forward Kama Pascua, who was one of two Rainbow Wahine to make the all-tournament team, along with senior defender Karli Look. 20 Years Of UH Soccer: UH celebrates its 20th season of women s soccer in The Rainbow Wahine started its varsity program in 1994, joined the Western Athletic Conference in 1996 and transitioned to the Big West in During its history, Hawai i has captured three regular-season conference championships, one tournament title and made an appearance in the 2007 NCAA Tournament. Sister Act: Freshman Kama Pascua joins her older sister Krystal Pascua this year to form a potent combination up front. Krystal, who was an all-big West second team pick last year as a midfi elder, started the fi rst match of the year at forward. Kama, meanwhile, leads the team in shots through two matches and was named to the OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi all-tournament team after her fi rst weekend of collegiate action. The Pascuas are the third set of sisters to play together at UH, joining Natasha and Krisha Kai ( ) and Wendy and Wanette Miyashiro (1999). Experience Counts: While UH started fi ve freshman in the opening weekend, the UH backline is intact from last season with three seniors and one sophomore. The three seniors Karli Look, Chelsea Miyake and Malé Fresquez have a combined 172 matches played and 152 starts. Lidia Battaglia is the lone underclassmen of the bunch but started all but one match last year and was eventually named to the Big West All-Freshman Team. Home At Waipi o: UH is in its 14th season at the Waipi o Peninsula Soccer Stadium. UH is (.588) all-time at the facility, including a (.680) mark in conference play. UH went at Waipi o in 2012 and the team s average attendance of 856 fans, led the Big West.
