Last Time Out A top 0 NAIA matchup lived up to its billing, but No. 4 Saint Xavier was able to hold the No. 8 Purdue Calumet women s basketball team off down the stretch in the Peregrines league loss at the Fitness and Recreation Center. Junior Jada Buggs scored 25 points, sophomore Cassidy Deno had 20 points and junior Patrice McBee chipped in her 2th double-double of the season with points and 2 rebounds in the setback, which set the Peregrines record to 8-5 overall and 0- in the CCAC. Scouting the Titans IUSB is coming off a win over Holy Cross College on Feb. 4. Junior forward Emily Peppers-VanNamee led the Titans with 9 points, on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting and seven rebounds in the victory. Senior center Maegan Callaway leads all Titan scorers on the year averaging 6.2 points per game while also leading the team with 7.8 rebounds per contest. Purdue Calumet has broken the 00-point plateau four times this season, the latest its win over Olivet Nazarene Jan.. Against the naton s scoring leader Tigers earlier this season, Purdue Calumet broke the single-game program scoring record in a 22-9 victory at the Fitness and Recreation Center Nov. 9. Purdue Calumet is outscoring its opponents by an average of.7 points per contest. No Place Like Home The Fitness and Recreation Center continues to be kind to the Peregrines, who are -2 thus far in Last season, Purdue Calumet won 8 percent of its games at the FNRC, finishing - in the confines of the Peregrines home arena. Series History Indiana South Bend leads the all-time series against the Peregrines, 2-2, but Tom Megyesi is 9-5 against the Titans.Purdue Calumet has come out victorius in the last two meetings, including an 80-6 win in South Bend Dec. 5. Jada Buggs poured in 29 points on 2 of 2 shooting and Cassidy Deno added 7 points -- including five makes from downtown to lead the Peregrines on the road. In 20-4 the Peregrines took two out of three games between the Titans including the CCAC Tournament Semi-Finals. Sophomore Cassidy Deno led all scorers with 20 points. Moving Up the Ranks Senior Kami Graber has already passed five players on the Peregrines all-time scoring list, as the guard now stands at No. 6 on the list with,57 career points. Graber has a chance to catch former teammate Alex Starr (,58). Coaching Legend Tom Megyesi can add another honor to his storied career, as the eighth-year head coach was one of 0 selected to the 205 Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Women s Induction Class, as announced by the organization s board of directors Dec. 6. Before Megyesi became Purdue Calumet s all-time winningest coach, he spent 24 seasons ( ) at the helm of the Lake Central High girl s basketball squad, leading the Indians to the 994 IHSAA state championship. Lake Central compiled a (.69) record in that span, which also included sectional championships, four regional titles, three semi-state crowns, and a state runner-up finish in 998. Players of the Week Purdue Calumet has already had three different Peregrines honored as the CCAC Players of the Week this season, as junior Patrice McBee nabbed the first honor of her career in Week 2, followed up by Jada Buggs. Cassidy Deno earned the honor during Week 6. McBee was honored with her second CCAC honor this past week after averaging 9.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in wins over Olivet Nazarene and Judson. Those numbers earned the junior, who leads the nation in field goal percentage at 67.7 percent, the first-ever NAIA Division II Women s Basketball National Player of the Week award in program history. 7 GAME 24 - IU SOUTH BEND FEB. 4, 205 TOM MEGYESI HEAD COACH EIGHTH SEASON AT PURDUE CALUMET Tom Megyesi is in eighth season as the head coach of the Purdue Calumet women s basketball program. He has continued to transform the women s basketball program thanks in part to his highoctane offensive attack. Megyesi led the Peregrines to perhaps their best season to date in 20-4, as Purdue Calumet -- with an overall record of captured both the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament title, advanced to its secondstraight National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national tournament, and won its first national tournament contest in school history with an opening-round victory over Oregon Tech. That victory also made Megyesi the program s all-time winningest coach in program history with his 8th win. In seven seasons, Megyesi has accumulated a career record of 8-98 (.546) and the Peregines have won at least 20 games for three straight seasons. For the Peregines performance in 20-4, Megyesi was honored with both the CCAC Coach of the Year and NAIA Region IV Coach of the Year awards, both firsts in his career at Purdue Calumet. Under Megyesi, Purdue Calumet has become the one of the NAIA Div. II s most prolific offenses, while having seven players join the,000-point club during his tenure. During that time the Black and Gold have put their imprint on the school record book, setting both individual and team marks. His last four teams have found the top of the school s scoring list, including 202- s record-breaking offense that put up 2,555 points on the year. Purdue Calumet continued its progression under Megyesi in 202-, reaching the 20-win plateau for the second-straight season. The Black and Gold went 2-0 overall and 7-5 in the CCAC, climbing as high as No. in the NAIA Div. II Coaches Poll during the season. The 202- squad beat five nationally-ranked opponents, earning a national tournament berth for just the third time program history. The Peregrines had a breakout season in 20-2, tallying 2-0 overall record and a 0-2 mark in conference action en route to the program s first trip to the CCAC Div. II Tournament championship game. The Black and Gold s.697 winning percentage was the program s highest in nine years, when the team went Purdue Calumet s success under Megyesi has been recognized by the rest of the conference, as he has seen 24 athletes receive All-CCAC recognition and one earn CCAC Freshman-of-the-Year accolades. Megyesi s teams have also excelled in the classroom, as the 200-, 20-2 and 202- teams earned the NAIA s prestigous Scholar Team Award with a cumulative grade-point average above.0. In his time at Purdue Calumet, 6 players have garnered CCAC All-Academic recognition, three have become NAIA/Daktronics Scholar Athletes, and one has participated in the esteemed Red Cross/NAIA Leadership Program. A lock for the Indiana s coaching hall of fame, Megyesi spent 24 seasons ( ) at local Lake Central High School, guiding the girl s basketball program to a record in that span. Megyesi wrapped up his coaching career at Lake Central ranked th in Indiana girl s basketball history in career victories. During his time with the Indians, Megyesi s squads racked up sectional championships, four regional titles, three semi-state crowns, a state runner-up finish in 998 and a state championship in 994. The Okemos, Mich. native received numerous coaching honors during his tenure at Lake Central, highlighted by his Indiana Coaches of Girl s Sports Association Coach-of-the-Year honors in 994 and 998.
