The Badgers moved into a tie for second place in the league standings following two wins last weekend. Wisconsin is tied with Minnesota, which lost a Michigan last Saturday, two matches behind Penn State. The Badgers host fifth-place Northwestern (13-10, 7-7) on Friday at 7 p.m. Eighth-place Illinois (14-10, 5-9) comes to town on Saturday for a 7 p.m. match. Wisconsin was aided by Minnesota (11-3) losing at Michigan, 3-1, on Saturday and Purdue (9-5) dropping both matches on the weekend. Penn State remains atop the conference at 13-1 while Minnesota and Wisconsin are second at Purdue falls to fourth at 9-5. Road Success Wisconsin won both Big Ten matches on the road last weekend for the first time since their seasonopening road trip to Illinois and Northwestern. The Badgers improved to 5-3 on the road in the Big Ten and 9-4 away from the Field House on the season. Home Winning Streak The Badgers look to coninue their home winning streak as they host Northwestern and Illinois this weekend. Wisconsin has won its last 10 matches in the Field House this season with its only loss coming at its season opener to then eighth-ranked Texas in the AVCA Showcase. Senior Maria Carlini led the Badgers to two wins on the road last weekend. The UW has also won its last eight Big Ten matches at home, dating back to its last two matches in This Week s Promotions The second set of UW trading cards will be available at Friday night s match vs. Northwestern. Free Crocs footwear will also be given out to UW students while supplies last. Intermission entertainment between games two and three features the UW Breakdance Club. Saturday is Alumnae Night with several former Badgers returning to be honored between games two and three. Turning Up the Offense In their last four matches, the Badgers have turned up their offense. The UW has hit over.300 as a team in all four matches and is hitting.332 during that stretch. Wisconsin has upped its kills per game to and assists to per game. The 6-2 outside hitter has started the last six matches and has been a key to the Badgers going 5-1. In her last six matches, Carlini is averaging 3.95 kills per game while hitting.283. She has led the team in kills in three matches, including a match-high 15 kills vs. No. 2 Penn State on Oct. 27. Carlini also leads the Badgers with six block solos during that stretch, including three at Michigan and two at Michigan State last weekend. On the season, Carlini ranks second on the team with 3.56 kills per game while hitting.272. Badgers Stays at 10th in Coaches Poll For the second week in a row, the Badgers are ranked 10th in the CSTV/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 poll released Nov. 6. Wisconsin, which has won its last five matches, is 19-5 on the season and tied for second in the Big Ten at The top-five teams in the poll remain the same for the second week in a row. Nebraska (22-0) maintains the top spot in the poll, picking up all 60 first-place votes. Stanford (20-2), Penn State (24-1), Washington (21-3) and UCLA (24-2) are ranked second through fifth, respectively. Five Big Ten schools remain ranked in the top 25. In addition to Penn State and Wisconsin, Minnesota (17-7) falls one spot to 13th while Purdue (19-6) drops two spots to 16th. Ohio State (17-7) moves up two spots to 23rd. Waite Counting Down Coach Pete Waite needs just five wins for 200 career wins at Wisconsin. In his eight year at the UW, Waite is already the winningest coach at Wisconsin, both in wins (195) and winning percentage (.764). In his 19th year as a head coach, Waite recorded career win No. 450 when the Badgers downed San Diego on Sept. 16. He is currently overall and at Wisconsin. Balanced Offense One of the keys to the Badgers success this season has been the team s balanced offense. Wisconsin has five starters who average 2.25 kills per game or better. All five hitters have led the team in kills in at least one match this season. Freshman Brittney Dolgner (Waupun, Wis.) leads the team with 3.95 kills per game. Senior Maria Carlini (LaSalle, Ontario) adds 3.56 kills per game. Sophomore Audra Jeffers (Hartland, Wis.) contributes 2.73 kills per game while middle blockers Taylor Reineke (Naperville, Ill.) and Amy Bladow (Monument, Colo.) chip in 2.62 and 2.29 kills per game, respectively. Even setter Jackie Simpson (Downers Grove, Ill.) averages 1.06 kills per game. Over the weekend, the Badgers showed an even more balanced offense with Dolgner and Carlini both putting down 3.57 kills per game. Reineke upped her kills to 3.14 per game while Jeffers is at 2.71 kill per game. Bladow upped her total to 2.43 per game while Simpson upped her average to 1.14 kills per game. Salow Off the Bench Sophomore Morgan Salow (Manchester, Iowa) came off the bench in the fourth game at Michigan State to serve for Taylor Reineke. The 6-4 outside hitter served three straight points to put the Badgers up She scored her final point on a service ace, just the third of her career and the first this season. Simpson Records 1,000 Assists For the third year in a row, junior Jackie Simpson (Downers Grove, Ill.) has recorded 1,000 assists. The 6-0 setter has 1,039 assists this season and is averaging a career best assists per game. Simpson has 3,557 assists in her career, which ranks sixth on the UW career list. She is third in career assists per game with Defensively and Offensively Minded Wisconsin defensive specialists Amanda Berkley (Racine, Wis.) and Megan Mills (Portage, Wis.) play important roles for the Badgers, both defensively and offensively. Berkley, a 5-5 junior, serves and plays back row for Audra Jeffers. She ranks fifth on the team with 1.78 digs per game. Berks has recorded double-figure digs in four matches this season and led the team with 12 digs vs. Purdue on Oct. 13 and eight digs at Michigan State on Nov. 4. She also adds 16 service aces, which is fourth on the team, while recording only 14 service errors. Berkley has led the team in service aces in five matches, including tying her career best with two aces six times this season. Mills, a 5-7 junior, serves and plays back row for Maria Carlini. She is sixth on the team with 1.57 digs per game, including a season-high 15 digs at Iowa on Oct. 21. Mills is fifth on the team with 14 aces, all but one which have come in pairs or more. She has

Dolgner Streak Ends Freshman Brittney Dolgner s (Waupun, Wis.) continues to lead the Badgers in kills with 3.95 per game. The 6-0 outside hitter has recorded double-figure kills in a team-best 16 matches this season, including a streak of 12 straight matches from Sept. 16-Oct. 27. Her average goes up to 4.67 kills per game in Big Ten play and her hitting percentage goes up to.245 in conference play while hitting.217 in all matches. Dolgner hit a career-best.611 ( ) vs. Penn State on Oct. 27. She has recorded a careerhigh 25 kills twice this season at Ohio State on Oct. 14 and at Iowa on Oct. 21. Not since former two-time first-team All-American Sherisa Livingston was a freshman in 1998, has a true freshman made such an offensive impact for the Badgers. Livingston, a 6-2 middle blocker, averaged 3.23 kills per game in her first season in Badgers Lead Big Ten Statistics Wisconsin leads the Big Ten in kills, assists and blocks per game in conference-only matches. The Badgers average a league-best kills per game and assists per game in Big Ten matches. Wisconsin also shares the lead in blocks per game with Individually, junior Taylor Reineke (Naperville, Ill.) continues to lead the league with 1.87 blocks per game in conference matches. She also leads in all matches with 1.68 blocks per game. Nationally Ranked The Badgers are ranked fourth nationally with 3.49 blocks per game, according to the NCAA statistics released Oct. 30. Wisconsin trails only Utah (3.86), Sacramento State (3.58) and Penn State (3.56). Individually, junior Taylor Reineke (Naperville, Ill.) ranks sixth with 1.70 blocks per game. The UW is ranked 27th in hitting percentage (.262), 22nd in kills per game (16.42),13th in assists per game (15.45) and tied for 29th in overall team winning percentage (.773). The Badgers (18-5 overall, 10-3 Big Ten) move into sole possession of third place in the league with the win and Purdue s loss at Penn State. After a slow start, the Badgers ended up hitting.315 for the match, its third consecutive match over.300. Taylor Reineke led the UW at.467 (8-1-15) while Maria Carlini hit.344 and led the team with 13 kills. Brittney Dolgner and Audra Jeffers each put down nine kills for the Badgers. The Wolverines were led by Katie Bruzdzinski, who had a match-high 16 kills, while Lyndsay Miller was second on the team with eight kills. Michigan hit just.163 for the match and the Badgers also finished with a advantage in kills. Wisconsin dominated defensively, outblocking Michigan 11-3, all which came in the first game for the Wolverines. Carlini, Reineke and Amy Bladow all totaled four blocks for the Badgers. The UW was also outstanding in the backcourt, outdigging Michigan Jocelyn Wack led all players with 17 digs while Jackie Simpson added 11 digs. Simpson also put up 36 assists in running the Badger offense. The Badgers downed the Spartans 30-20, 23-30, 30-21, to improve to 19-5 overall and 11-3 in the Big Ten. Thanks to a 3-1 win by Michigan over Minnesota, Wisconsin now shares second place in the league with the Golden Gophers. The Badgers used a balanced offense, with five players in double-digit kills, to down the Spartans (15-9, 6-8). Brittney Dolgner led the UW with 16 kills while Taylor Reineke added 14 kills. Maria Carlini, Amy Bladow and Audra Jeffers added 12, 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Wisconsin finished with only a advantage in kills over Michigan State, but the Badgers hit.362, their fourth straight match over.300, compared to.241 for the Spartans. State was led by Ashley Schatzle with 22 kills while Katie Johnson added 17 kills. The Badgers had another impressive night blocking, putting up 14 team blocks while the Spartans had only four blocks. Reineke led all blocks with six stuffs while Carlini added four blocks, including two solos. Wisconsin was outdug as Jocelyn Wack and Amanda Berkley led the team with eight digs apiece.
