The Providence College men s lacrosse team will be competing at the MAAC Men s Lacrosse Tournament for an unprecedented, eighth-straight season. Providence s first appearance at the tournament dates back to the 2001 season. The top-seeded Friars will take on No. 4 seed VMI in the semifinals on May 2 at Noon. VMI is making its first-ever appearance at the MAAC Championship. PROVIDENCE VS. VMI ALL-TIME... The Friars and Keydets have played seven times in the history of the two lacrosse programs. Providence holds a 6-1 advantage in the all-time series. The Friars only loss to VMI came during the 2006 season - an 11-7 defeat in Providence, R.I. PROVIDENCE VS. THE TOURNAMENT FIELD... The Friars were 3-0 vs. the MAAC Tournament field in Providence defeated No. 2 seed Canisius, 11-5, on April 26. The team defeated No. 4 VMI, 12-5, on March 22 and topped No. 3 Manhattan, 12-4, on March 15. STINGY DEFENSE... The Friars showcase a stingy defense year in and year out. In 2008, Providence posted a 6.13 goals against average in 14 games. Just two opponents managed to score double-digits goals against the Friars this year (#6 Maryland - 13 and #14 Brown - 11). The Friars held their remaining 12 opponents to eight goals or less. In MAAC regular-season action, Providence held seven of eight league foes to five goals or less. MORE DEFENSE... In MAAC regular-season action the Friars held seven of their eight opponents to five goals or less en route to a 7-1 record. Marist was the only team to score more than five goals against Providence in league play (seven). LEAGUE DOMINANCE... Providence has qualified for the MAAC Tournament in each of the last eight seasons (including 2008), which is an unprecedented feat in the league. The Friars have won three of the last four MAAC Tournament titles, including back-to-back titles in 2006 and The Friars have acquired three MAAC Tournament titles overall since joining the league in Providence also has captured four MAAC Regular- Season titles (2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008). SUCCESS IN THE MAAC UNDER HEAD COACH CHRIS BURDICK... Providence College Head Lacrosse Coach Chris Burdick is in the midst of his 10th season with the Friars. To date, Burdick has posted a overall record, including a mark in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular-season play. Burdick leads all active head coaches in the MAAC Men s Lacrosse League with three MAAC tournament titles and four regular-season league titles. Mount St. Mary s Tom Gravante is second on the list with two tournament titles and two regular-season titles. Canisius Randy Mearns owns two regular-season titles with the Griffs. FRIARS PICKED TO FINISH SECOND IN MAAC PRESEASON COACHES POLL... The Providence men s lacrosse team was picked to finish second in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) preseason coaches poll, released on February 6. The Friars accumulated 66 points in the poll. Siena topped the MAAC preseason rankings with 79 points. The Friars were the only MAAC team to defeat the Saints last season (twice), and recently dispatched Siena this season, 4-3 (4OT) on March 29 in Loudonville, N.Y. Canisius was picked to finish third (62 points), followed by St. Joseph s (56 points) and Marist (41 points) in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Manhattan and Mount St. Mary s each recorded 37 points in the poll, placing them in a tie for sixth. VMI (17 points) and Wagner (10 points) round out the preseason poll. RIGHT THERE... Six of the Friars seven losses in 2008 were decided by two goals or less, including four one-goal losses (two in overtime). Providence s most lop-sided defeat on the year came at the hands of 6th-ranked Maryland (13-5) on March third in College Park, Md. OVERTIME GAMES... The Friars have played three overtime games in 2008 and are 1-2 in those contests, including a 1-0 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). PC opened the season with back-to-back overtime losses to Fairfield (7-6) and Air Force (8-7). Providence s only victory of the year in overtime was a 4-3, four-overtime, thriller against Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y. on March 29. BENNETT MURPHY LEADS FRIAR OFFENSE... Graduate student Bennett Murphy (Princeton, N.J.) enters the MAAC Tournament with team highs in points (34), goals (21) and assists (13). He is second among his teammates in man-up goals (four), and is in the midst of a 13-game point scoring streak. In four seasons of eligibility with the Friars, Murphy has recorded 79 points on 51 goals and 28 assists.

2 LET S FACE IT... Graduate student Thomas Wenskus (East Islip, N.Y.) has taken the bulk of Providence s face offs this season and has recorded a win percentage with 83 victories in 141 opportunities. In Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regularseason play, Wenskus improves his win percentage to with 48 victories in 80 attempts. Wenskus also leads the team overall in groundballs with 48 (33 vs. MAAC opponents). ROBERT BRYAN HAS STELLAR SEASON AT THE GOALKEEPER POSITION IN HIS FIRST SEASON AS A STARTER... Junior goalkeeper Robert Bryan (Apex, N.C.) played each of the last two seasons behind All-MAAC goalie Peter Littell 07. In 2008, Bryan stepped into the starting role and has posted a 7-1 record in MAAC regular-season play. He earned MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors three times on the year. Bryan posted a 6.49 goals against average and a save percentage in 14 games (739:39 minutes). He recorded double-digit saves in five games this season, including a career-best 13 stops in a 5-4 victory over St. Joseph s (Pa.). Bryan also managed to hold seven of the Friars eight league foes to five goals or less. JACKSON FALLON LEADS FRIARS IN MAN-UP GOALS FOR SECOND- STRAIGHT SEASON... Sophomore Jackson Fallon (Arlington, Mass.) enters the MAAC Tournament with a team-best six man-up goals. It marks the second-straight season he has led the Friars on special teams during man-up situations. As a freshman in 2007, Fallon netted six man-up goals to lead the squad. Overall, Fallon owns 13 goals and seven assists this season for a career-high 20 points. BALANCED ATTACK... The Friars have showcased a balanced attack this season with eight players on the roster who have reached double-digits in the scoring column. Graduate student Bennett Murphy (Princeton, N.J.) leads the team with 34 points (21 goals, 13 assists). Four other Friars have recorded 20+ points on the year. Six Friars on the roster have scored double-digit goals on the year. ALL-TIME MAAC TOURNAMENT RECORD VS. THE 2008 FIELD... On May 2, Providence will face VMI in the MAAC Tournament for the first time in program history. Providence is 2-0 all-time vs. the remainder of the 2008 field in MAAC Tournament action, having earned one victory each against Canisius and Manhattan. During the 2004 campaign, Providence defeated Canisius, 10-8, in the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament on May 7, The Friars went on to defeat Manhattan, 11-6, on May 9, 2004 to claim its first MAAC Tournament title in program history. That season, the tournament was played at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. FRIARS HAVE WON SEVEN OF LAST NINE GAMES... The Friars won seven of their last nine games since starting the season with five-straight losses. Three of the team s first five losses were decided by a goal, including two in overtime. Providence put itself in the win column for the first time on March 15 against Manhattan (12-4), which started a streak of five-consecutive victories. PC then dropped back-to-back games to Marist (7-6) and 14th-ranked Brown (11-9) before picking up two victories to end the regular-season schedule (Wagner 12-3; Canisius 11-5). 3 Chris BURDICK Head Coach 10th Season Alma Mater Delaware In 10 seasons as Head Coach of the Providence College lacrosse team, Chris Burdick has led the Friars to an unprecedented eight-consecutive MAAC Tournament appearances (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008). Including this season, Providence has captured four Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Regular- Season titles (2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008). The Friars also have claimed the MAAC Tournament championship crown in three of the last four seasons (2004, 2006 and 2007) and advanced to the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Tournament during each of those campaigns. On May 2, 2008, the Friars will join Canisius, Manhattan and VMI at the MAAC Tournament - where each team will begin its quest for the MAAC Tournament title and trip to the NCAA s. Currently in his 10th season at Providence, Burdick has compiled an overall record of overall record, including a mark in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. Entering the 2008 MAAC Tournament in Loudonville, N.Y., Burdick leads all active coaches in the MAAC in league tournament titles (three) and regular-season league titles (four). The Friars posted their best league finishes in 2003, 2005 and 2008, with identical MAAC records of 7-1. In 2006, Burdick guided the Friars to a program-best 10 wins overall (10-7), tying them with PC's 1985 squad who also finished with 10 victories (10-2). Burdick also is credited with the recruitment and development of the first players at Providence College to be selected to the All-MAAC First and Second Teams since joining the conference in In all, Burdick has had 14 players earn All-Conference honors a total of 24 times, including Brian O'Rorke, who finished his eligibility in 2004 as the program's most decorated player. O'Rorke is a three-time MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team selection (2002, 2003 & 2004). O'Rorke also earned MAAC Rookie of the Year honors under Burdick's guidance as a freshman in In January of 2005, O'Rorke became the first lacrosse player from Providence to get drafted by Major League Lacrosse. The New Jersey Pride took O'Rorke in the 13th round (73rd overall) of the supplemental draft held in Philadelphia, Pa. Burdick also helped to develop the program's first-ever All-America selection in Michael Farley. Farley was named a USILA Honorable Mention All-American in In January of 2008, former Friar goalkeeper Peter Littell ('07) was added to the Long Island Lizard's 35-man roster, and will compete for a permanent roster spot on the team during April training camp. Burdick came to Providence with an impressive resume, having earned valuable experience with some of the top teams in collegiate lacrosse. A 1991 graduate from the University of Delaware, he was one of the top goalkeepers to ever play for the Blue Hens. Upon graduation from Delaware, Burdick quickly got into coaching and began to establish himself as one of the best young evaluators of talent in collegiate lacrosse. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Notre Dame in He helped guide the Fighting Irish to two-consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament. After two years at Notre Dame, Burdick returned to Delaware to serve as the defensive coordinator for the 15th-ranked Blue Hens in In 1995, he was named the offensive coordinator. While at Delaware, Burdick earned his master's degree in health, physical education and recreation. He continued to work with top programs when he became an assistant coach for the 12th-ranked UMass Minutemen in At UMass, Burdick coached the team's goalies and worked with the defense. The following year, he went to Cornell to become the assistant head coach. He spent one season with the Big Red under coaching legend Richie Moran before coming to Providence. In addition to his work as a coach in the collegiate ranks, Burdick is very involved with lacrosse at all levels, having made many speaking appearances at various clinics. He also was instrumental in helping to raise more than $4,500 for Eric Potts, a Wesley College lacrosse player who was paralyzed playing summer lacrosse. Burdick served as the president of the MAAC Lacrosse Coaches' Association in 2003, and has been a member of the regional advisory committee for NCAA tournament selection.
