The teams were: U10 Comets U10 Jets (Both Lightning Premiership Winners) U11 Comets U14 Jets (A further 4 teams may have achieved a win had a bit of luck gone their way, as they all fell short by less than a goal). U11 Stars 5 points U12 Jackettes 2 points U13 Comets 5 points U17 2 points Round 14 Results & Match Reports U11 Comets: Ajax 4.5 (29) def East Malvern Blue 3.4 (22) Goals: Krongold 3, Levine Best: Peker, Siegel, Harris, Southwick, Yaffe, Marabel-Whitburn Match report: It was a back to basics football game in very challenging condition but the boys adapted their game to prevail. Krongold and Levine kicked 3 and 1 respectively with a heavy ball and rain for 3 of the 4 quarters. The team saw good performances from Peker, Siegel and Harris desperate to make sure a win was secured for the last game. Inspired by Seigal s 50 th game and a large supporter group from the parents, the game capped off a great session seeing all the boys grow & develop into better footy players U11 Jets: Caulfield Bears 7.5 (42) def Ajax 1.0 (6) Goals: Nirens Best: Altman, Duieb, Elbaum, Goldberg, Page, Pincus Match report: Good effort.

U11 Stars: Dingley Red 3.4 (22) def Ajax 2.5 (17) Goals: Chrapot 2 Best: Arndt, Chrapot, Grunfeld, Kalb, Krowitz, Micmacher Match report: Captains for the game, Kalb & Micmacher. Congratulation s to Rueben Grunfeld & Adrian Rosenwax for their 50 th game. (banners held over for next week.) A big game to be played like it was the finals. Ajax took the 1 st quarter with our usual strong play and team effort keeping the opposition scoreless. 2 nd & 3 rd Qtrs it did not go Stars way with the opposition kicking their entire score in these quarters. Stars came back in the hard in the last quarter with skills & effort but in a hard fought low scoring match couldn t make up the difference. U12 Comets: St Kilda City 8.7 (55) def Ajax 1.7 (13) Goals: Nirens Best: Bass, Cohen, Friede, Gabriel, Gross, Smorgon Match report: In the final game of the year there were large hopes that the first win of the season could finally come. In what was spirited effort, the comets stayed with the st.kilda opposition for most of the game. Going into the last quarter with a goal deficit, the comets were confident that they could have a big last quarter and take the game. Unfortunately the opposition proved too strong and ran out strong winners in the final term. Bronson Smorgon had his best game for the club in his 50th whilst Ryley Michelson and Hayden Bass had strong performances in the midfield. U12 Jets: Caulfield 3.11 (29) def Ajax 1.6 (12) Goals: Lincoln Best: Braverman, Efron, Lincoln, Moshinsky, Tepper, Webb Match report: None reported.

U12 Girls Jackettes: St Pauls 5.8 (38) def Ajax 5.6 (36) Goals: C Davies, L Davies, Fanarof, Silver, Zivin Best: C Davies, Fanarof, Morris, Rose, T Szwarcberg, Zivin Coaches report: The girls were amazing today. For the first time in a long time they had a fierce fight on their hands. We played a team who was undefeated as well as having 5 over age girls but that did not perturb us. We kept trying and eventually got in front in the last quarter. The ground was large and muddy, but the girls never gave up. Unfortunately the opposition scored in the last minute and we ended up losing by 2 points, nevertheless in my eyes, the Girls played like winners today. Unfortunately I will be up at Mt. Buller next weekend for the Jewish Day Schools snow sports competition, so I wish all the team good luck for their final game of the season. Have fun and "Go get them" Well done to each and everyone of you for a great performance today. Team Managers report: Today the Jackettes played away from home at McKinnon Reserve against St Pauls. With a team of 19 it was Amanda & Jessica who were the captains for the match. The Jackettes were up against an undefeated opposition and ran out to play on a massive size oval with an ankle deep muddy centre square that was reminiscent of the days when VFL games were played at Linton Street. The toss was won by the Jackettes and it was game on. The opposition were quickly into attack and were playing a fast running type game. The Jackettes tried to get their running game going and in the few times they went forward, their attempts to score were stopped by the opposition. At the end of the 1 st quarter the Jackettes were to Coach Braham asked the girls to run with the ball and kick long and to play one on one. The 2 nd quarter saw the Jackettes play a tight quarter and although they failed to score they held the opposition to 1 goal 1 point. At the ½ time break scores were Jackettes to Coach Braham took the girls into the rooms and they enjoyed their Vitamin C fix courtesy of the oranges supplied by David Fried. I m not too sure what it was like eating oranges with muddy hands but the Jackettes must have enjoyed it as the 3 rd quarter saw the Jackettes spring into action. The plan was to have the girls run hard, move the ball quickly and kick long. This proved early dividends when they got the ball into their forward line where Jessica read the ball off the pack, barged through the defenders and kicked truly for the Jackettes 1 st goal. This was followed up with several good passages of play which resulted in Lily scoring the Jackettes 2 nd goal. Our defence was holding firm as the opposition only managed 1 goal 1 behind in the quarter. Despite being 25 points down at ½ time the Jackettes reduced the margin to 17 points in arrears when they came into the huddle. At the ¾ break scores were Jackettes to Coach Braham s address praised the girls for their fabulous 3 rd quarter as they outscored the opposition. We could sense the opposition were showing signs of tiredness so coach Braham asked them to run them off their legs. The last quarter saw the Jackettes run and carry the ball and kick it long into the forward line. The deficit of 17 points down at ¾ time was slowly being reduced when the Jackettes scored a few points. Once again, the girls kicked long and Romy took a great mark in the forward line, looked around and saw no one was on the mark, played on and kicked a goal. The Jackettes were 9 points down and had all of the play. Another point was scored so 8 points down before Bianca pounced on a loose ball in the forward pocket, evaded a few defenders and kicked truly, Jackettes now 2 points in arrears. Would this be scenes like Saturday night at the G where a Navy Blue & White team came from 13 points down to record a fabulous victory?

U12 Girls Jackettes team manager s report (continued) Another fantastic passage of play saw Cara burst through the pack and slot it through the middle. Jackettes now 4 points up and 90 seconds to play. The ball was thrown up in the centre and every Jackette showed desperation for the ball as their aim was to win the hard ball. Unfortunately the opposition got a very lucky break and from their one and only entry up forward in the last quarter scored a goal that put them 2 points up. Time was fast running out but the Jackettes NEVER gave up and with the ball in their forward 50 the bell rang to end the match. Final scores Jackettes def by St Pauls Although the girls were unable to come away with a win their efforts and commitment were magnificent. Well done girls. To show the appreciation of the great match played, the supporters from St Pauls lined up on the oval and clapped and cheered the girls from both teams as they ran off the ground. U13 Comets: St Kilda City 5.6 (36) def Ajax 5.1 (31) Goals: Shapiro 2, J. Bassat, Liberman, J. Meltzer Best: J.Bassat, Beaconsfield, Carp, Shapiro, Syber, Teperman Match report: Wet, windy and muddy today. Conditions that require you to put your head over the ball. We certainly did that today against the top team. The game was for pride only with the result being a dead rubber. Despite the loss, we gained a lot of knowledge about our opponents for the first final next week. If we play four quarters of our best footy we can win and earn a spot in the grand final. U13 Jets: Dingley 22.9 (141) def Ajax 0.0 (0) Goals: Nil Best: Faiman, Glikfeld, Herskope, Jankelowitz, Miller, Shenker Match report: Despite the score, the Jets played a solid and well fought game. Our boys were aggressive, got their head over the ball and tackled well. We had several opportunities to score in the 4th quarter and just couldn't get a goal our way. Well done boys, you've improved every game and look forward to seeing everyone back again next year. U14 Comets: Highett 9.5 (59) def Ajax 1.1 (7) Goals: Nadleman Best: Cohen, Kirzner, Leibowitz, Lewit-Mendes, Lipszyc, Muscstel Match report: None reported.

U14 Jets: Ajax 8.10 (58) def East Sandringham 3.10 (28) Goals: J.Cohen 3, Carp, Givoni, Krakauer, Takac, Wise Best: J.Cohen, Krakauer, Nissenbaum, Sandler, Walsh, Wise Match report: None reported. U15 Comets: Hampton Rovers 9.15 (69) def Ajax 1.4 (10) Goals: Baron Best: Faiman, Kagan, Kemelman, Korman, Shnider, Wise Match report: None reported. U15 Jets: Ormond (94) def Ajax 1.2 (8) Goals: Cohen Best: Cohen, Davis, Gaddie, Kalmus, Nissenbaum, Shatter Match report: What a brave effort today. Firstly thanks to Jordan Cohen and Kane Nissenbaum for helping us out and their valuable contribution today. Today s opponents will play in the Grand Final this year and for large parts of the game we really restricted their scoring. We improved since the last time we played them and their coach and manager complimented us on how much more competitive we were today. The defence again held firm with Max Gaddie and Jordan Davis repelling many attacks. Josh Shatter and JJ competed well in the ruck and Sammy Kalmus worked hard all day. Special mentions to Wazza, Julza, Koby and Kiff for always hanging tough. One more to go. U16: Caulfield (102) def Ajax 3.10 (28) Goals: Kaplan 2, Rosenthal Best: Bassat, Fitt, Rosenthal, Rubinstein, Silver, Steiner Match report: Was a tough day for the jackas. Going in undermanned and playing against a strong opponent in tough conditions didn't make for a good day. Despite being in control early, the boys fell away badly. It wasn't the best way to kick start the preparation for finals but we ll bounce back!

U17: South Melb District 7.12 (54) def Ajax 7.10 (52) Goals: Rechtman 4, Brand, Silver, Thurin Best: Brand, Broons, Rothschild, Sher, Slade, Yarrow Match report: The Jackas stayed ahead by a small margin all day, with Mikey kicking sharply and accurately with a big 4. The match was played tough and tight in wet conditions lake-side. They started the last quarter confidently but there was only a goal in it. However, in a real struggle the Jackas were unable to hold on against a persistent last-quarter Sth Melbourne onslaught going down by just 2 points. Regardless, the U17 s have had a great home-and-away season and are looking forward to the finals next week against Divvie one opponents. Results of U10 s NAB Lightning Premiership Carnival matches The U10 s played their Lightning Premiership carnival day on Sunday with the U10 Comets & U10 Jets playing their matches at the King George Reserve in Bentleigh East. It was a very successful day for both teams. They were playing in different divisions and won the 3 matches played. Their season ended by being named the winners of the Lightning Premiership Pennants. Results of all the matches played are: U10 Comets: 1st match: Ajax def East Sandringham Goals: Deane, Gross, Zayontz Best: Team Effort. 2nd match: Ajax def Hampton Goals: Deane 2, Cohen, Engel, Marks, Morris Best: Team Effort. 3rd match: Ajax def St Peters Green Goals: Davis 2, Weeden 2, Deane, Star Best: Team Effort. Lightning Premiership report: The Comets saved their best form of the season until the Lightning Carnival and should be immensely proud of their efforts today. Conditions were slippery and we were fortunate to avoid any significant rain. Our first game was against East Sandringham. We started very well with a solid first half into the breeze. Leading by a goal to nil, we then lifted our standard even further to display some brilliant team work and endeavour, resulting in another two goals.

U10 Comets: Lightning Premiership report (continued) With a sense of urgency in the final minutes, East Sandringham responded with three goals of their own and it was a very tense final couple of minutes as we desperately held onto a one point lead. It was a very satisfying and nailbiting victory. Coach Braham expressed the importance of focusing on the next game against Hampton as our job wasn t done. The Comets were dominant for most of the game displaying excellent defensive skills. Given the freedom to run with the ball and kick long, the boys cleared the ball from packs and were intent on being first to the ball. We scored regularly in both halves and some wonderful individual performances contributed to a very strong victory by more than five goals. Our third and final game was pivotal and we knew that victory would lead to the Lightning Premiership. Buoyed by watching the U10 Jets win their flag, we faced a determined St Peters. Some fierce contests early in the game set the tone and whilst we had a handy lead at half time, our opponent looked to be up to the contest. Despite both teams showing signs of weariness after two and a half games, the Comets lifted their intensity and clearly outplayed St Peters. Despite the wet conditions, some very strong marking and endeavour, particularly in our forward line, resulted in three more goals as we created an unassailable lead. At the final siren, the boys (and Coaches Braham and Shay) celebrated a well deserved victory and the Lightning Premiership. The coaching group and parents were very proud of the boys who sang their club song several times with gusto and passion at the end of the final game. Despite a tough season, the Comets have continued to show improvement, both individually and collectively and should be proud of their efforts. On behalf of the coaching group we also thank our large contingent of families and friends who were very vocal in their support today. Congratulations to the Comets on ending the season on a high and we wish them well for Mazel-Tov to the Coach Braham Morris and his assistant Shay, all the players, parents, grandparents and all others associated with the team throughout the season. U10 Jets: 1st match: Ajax def St Kilda City Black Goals: Mondel 3, H Carp, Michmacher, Sheezel Best: Team Effort. 2nd match: Ajax def South Melbourne Red Goals: Fibishenko 2, H Carp, Sheezel Best: Team Effort. 3rd match: Ajax def Highett Goals: Sheezel 2, H Carp, Herskope, Mondel Best: Team Effort.

U10 Jets: Lightning Premiership report: The Lightening Carnival 2012 was all about the 4Ps for the U10 Jets. During the season our coaches Tim Bursztyn and Glen Sheezel have emphasised several key football themes for the boys, all of which paid off on the big stage. After a number of close defeats during the season the boys all performed when it counted most. Persistence was an important theme for the boys throughout the year, and it was their persistence that led them to glory today. We could not have asked for a better Performance during the 6 halves of football. From the first bounce the Jets were on fire and their relentless attack on the football was inspiring. The Jets blew away St Kilda City in the first game, who had won the earlier season round by less than a goal. We could sniff something special was unfolding. It came down to another nail biter in game three, down by a few points with seconds to run, Toby Sheezel danced through three opposition players to kick his fourth major for the day and seal the sweetest of victories. The Premiership was a fitting outcome for a season of ups and downs. Finally the fourth P for Pleasure. It s been a pleasure to be involved with the U10 Jets family and we can t wait for 2013! Mazel-Tov to the Coaches Tim Bursztyn & Glen Sheezel, all the players, parents, grandparents and all others associated with the team throughout the season. 25 AJAX SEPARATE THEMSELVES FROM BOTTOM 2 AJAX has gone 12 points clear of a relegation spot, with an 13.6 (84) to (76) win over Oakleigh at Gary Smorgon Oval on the weekend. In a see-sawing affair, the Jackas held on in the dying stages to record a hugely important win heading into the final five games of the year. Seniors Wrap Round 13 AJAX FC NEWSLETTER ROUND 13 V OAKLEIGH teskacarson Marcus Jankie was superb in the midfield, while David Fayman and Geoff Measey were equally as impressive at either ends of the ground. The hosts struggled early in the match, with Oakleigh breaking the deadlock after several minutes of scrappy play. Fayman then got the Jackas on the board with one of his six goals for the game, before skipper Gary Blieden gave the home team the lead with a long bomb. But the visitors then kicked three goals to Jake Lew s one to take a seven point advantage into the first break. After conceding the opening goal of the second term, the Jackas then piled on six majors to one to take full control of the game. Fayman kicked three for the quarter, while Adam Trytell, Ashley Kalb and Brad Caplan all snapped truly to give the Jackas a 23-point lead at the main break. However, the visitors launched an all-out attack after half time, keeping AJAX to just one behind, while adding four goals of their own to take a narrow lead at the three quarter time. With everything to play for in the last term, it was AJAX who gained the upper hand early, Caplan spectacularly weaving around three players to give the home side the lead. Oakleigh found an answer at the other end, but couldn t contain the determined Jackas, who ran out victors thanks to majors from Jankie and Fayman. It was very important for the club, which got us a lot closer to staying up in B Grade, coach Bernie Sheehy said after the game. The Reserves were beaten heavily in their match against Oakleigh, losing (111) to 6.5 (41). Youngsters Adam Lerner and Michael Feiler kicked two goals each, while David Wloszczowski and Michael Shafar battled hard all day. AJAX hosted a pre-game lunch in conjunction with the St Kilda Football Club, discussing the history of the red, white and black guernsey. 27 OFFICIAL ANNOUCEMENT AJAX SENIORS COMES HOME Forty years of AJAX junior Australian Rules football will be celebrated at Princes Park on Saturday, 1 September 2012,at a Community Day to be staged by the AJAX football club. The day will feature an Auskick clinic, and a junior grid match during the break between the main games- the AJAX seniors and reserves teams playing their final games of the 2012 season against Beaumaris. It will mark the first time the AJAX senior sides will have played senior home games in the heart of Glen Eira, at the same home ground of the junior teams. The AJAX Junior Football Club was founded in 1972 and in the 40 years since, thousands of Jewish boys and many girls have worn the AJAX jumper and represented their community while playing Australia's national sport-aussie Rules Footy.. AJAX Football Club thanks the Council of Glen Eira for granting permission for the senior club to play the matches at Princes Park on 1/9. The Councillors felt the local community deserved to see the Jewish community's football senior teams play their footy at the same home ground as the AJAX juniors, within the Municipality of Glen Eira- in which the largest % of Jewish residents live. This will be a true community day and will allow the senior teams to promote and showcase themselves and to encourage junior players to continue their football with AJAX. The pathway between the two levels of footy must remain seamless and continuous. The Community Day football will also allow members of the local Jewish community who do not drive on Shabbat, or find Albert Park too far,but are still passionate about their footy, and who rarely get the opportunity to support their Jewish footy club, to walk to Princes Park and enjoy a game of high-level amateur VAFA football. The AJAX Football Club looks forward to showcasing its senior players in front of a large crowd at one of the best suburban football venues in Melbourne.
