Head Master's BulletinPrep NewsJunior School News PDF Version SPORT Joshua Hobden (11We) 1st XI Football vs Cranbrook Trinity s CAS football season finalised impressively on Saturday with 16 victories and 2 draws from 24 matches. There were many highlights on the day. The 1 st XI, 2nd XI, 3 rd XI and 4 th XIs won their matches, scoring 16 goals whilst conceding just one. The 10Ds and 8Bs had seven goal-winning margins. The 9Bs and 8Ds completed unbeaten premiership seasons with convincing wins. Those two teams were coached by 2015 Old Boys, Zac Galluzzo and Johnny Dimopoulos. This illustrated the pedigree of boys returning to the School and imparting their wisdom and football knowledge to our Middle School footballers.

Other premiership-winning teams were the 2 nd XI, 9As, 8Cs and 7As. Congratulations to all these teams. The 8As, 8Es and 8Cs only lost one CAS match thus highlighting the strength of this Year group. 1 st XI vs Cranbrook Won 5-0 Within the first ten minutes, Trinity could have been 3-0 up, had the clear chances been put away. Football usually holds these types of misses to account by sending a counter-punch. Fortunately, a Cranbrook shot was contained on the line by the focused Goal Keeper Joshua Hobden (11We). After some pressure from Felix Kerameas (11Fo) on a Cranbrook throw in, the ball popped out for William Piras (12Sc) who threaded a killer pass for Dimitri Valiotis (12La) to volley top corner of the net. Valiotis smelt blood and he capitalised on a Cranbrook defender s mistake by slotting away in a tight angle the second goal. For the third goal, left full back Alex Andreatta (12Du) dribbled with the ball into space, drew in a defender, played a 1-2 with Luca Kmet (11Ke) and then cut inside to play a ball in behind the Cranbrook defence to place Valiotis in position to score his third goal via a volley shot. The fourth goal started from a throw-in where Luca Kmet was able to use the bounce to chip and chase around a defender, control the ball and beat the Goal Keeper at his near post. The last goal was a length of the field play. Goal Keeper Hobden rolled out to centre back William Todd (11Ar). Todd dribbled into space along the left hand corridor and wall passed with winger Nicholas Chan (12Mu). Todd then dribbled to the goal line and cut it back to Valiotis on the top of the penalty spot. Valiotis laced the ball into the bottom of the crossbar and over the line for his fourth goal. Final score 5-0. An enjoyable way to farewell our Year 12 players, while a tone is set for Luke Gray 1 st XI Coach

Luca Kmet (11Ke) 1st XI Dimitri Valiotis (12La) 1st XI 2 nd XI vs Cranbrook Won 4-0 The 2nd XI knew a draw against Cranbrook was sufficient to take the 2 nd XI title

for the first time in 13 years. By winning at a dry Dangar field, the 2 nd XI would collect a clean sweep of the second round fixtures whilst sewing up the title. An early foray of attacks saw Cristian Lorenzato (11Fo) score for the third week running, poaching on a defensive error from Cranbrook. A Reece Sekulovski (12La) long throw to the near post was skimmed on by Soroush Zand s (12Ar) head into the back of the net. The third goal came through Jordan Kougias (11Ke), who executed a super 45m chip over a floundering Cranbrook keeper just before the interval. The half-time mantra was to relax and enjoy the final 30 minutes of the season. If a 4 th goal ensued, a tactical change to let our Keeper Gabriel Sikh (12We) finish his Trinity football career in a green shirt rather than an orange one was also discussed. With 10 minutes to go, James Hart (10Ar), our ever reliable back-up keeper was put into goal and Gabriel replaced him so he could take the pitch. The score was still 3-0 when he entered the field of play with six minutes remaining. A fourth goal did occur when a Dean Bozionelos (11Ta) pass set up captain Lachlan Gregory (12Ke) to score his first of the season and finish his Trinity playing days on a real high. A final score of 4-0, gained a wellearned premiership and a clean sweep of five from five matches since the rained-out Round 5. This was a tremendous climax to a season where team work and belief in each other were ever-present after a stop- start beginning. Chris Robinson 2 nd XI Coach Joshua Seet-Lee (12Ke) 2nd XI

3 rd XI vs Cranbrook Won 5-1 Trinity struggled early in the first five minutes against a team yet to win a game this season, but was able to take control of the game from this point onwards. After two weeks of missed opportunities up front, Samuel Otton (11Ta) scored his best goal of the year with a 30 metre running attack to score the opening goal in the 8 th minute. Before half time Michael Tsintominas (12Sc) and Adrian Musumeci (11La) scored goals to finish off a strong first half for Trinity. Ameer Dimeglio (11La) continued his strong finish to the season with a beautiful attacking run through the middle of the defence and passing the Goal Keeper to score his best goal of the season. The next goal was scored by Mohamad Zogheib (11Ke) his first for the year! Late in the game as Trinity looked for goal six and defended with only three players, Cranbrook was able to steal a late goal with a nice header to finish the game. Victory to Trinity 5-1. Romeet Gandhi (11Ho) was the player of the match with his best performance of the year. A great season by Trinity 3 rd XI, who never had a goal scored against them in the first half of any of their matches. Mark Mikulandra 3 rd XI Coach 4 th XI vs Cranbrook Won 2-0 This game was a great finish to the season, with Trinity gaining a well-deserved 2-0 win. It was an exciting game because both teams created many scoring opportunities and both teams were either denied by the posts and the bar, or let down by shots going straight to the Goal Keeper. The deadlock between the two teams was finally broken late in the first half when Yanni Flaskos (11Du) took the ball from the halfway line, ran down the right wing and then across from the corner and scored. Trinity s defence, ably supported by the midfield, was solid and the boys worked hard to deny Cranbrook any reply. If Trinity played well during the first half, they played even better during the second half and late in the term they struck again. This time Yanni ran the ball down the right wing and crossed to Harry Dunn (11Mu) who finished well to seal the 2-0 win. Terry Haywood 4 th XI Coach 10Cs vs Cranbrook Won 4-1

The 10Cs came up against a good Cranbrook side this week. Due to wet weather, it was the first meeting of the season. Trinity came out of the blocks flying with a point to prove. Great creativity in midfield by Koray Cankurt (10WH) led to the opening goal early in the match. From there Trinity gained confidence that would see them mount wave after wave of attack. Special mention goes to Christian Nicolaou (10Du) who scored another goal from a set piece this season. He has been scoring for fun during the last five matches! As the game progressed, Cranbrook did respond with attacks of their own, but due to the brilliance of Jordan O Dea (10Fo) in the heart of defence, the result was always relatively comfortable. Thank you to Jordan, who always shows great professionalism and team spirit every single week. The game ended 4-1 and was a brilliant way to finish off the very enjoyable and eventful season. Daniel Saboune 10Cs Coach

Harrison Haritos (10Ta) 10B 9Bs vs Cranbrook Won 3-0

In the final fixture of the season Trinity were able to snatch all three points with a 3-0 victory. Across both halves Trinity displayed great creativity and persistence to maintain possession. Eddie Alcock s (9WJ) defensive contribution was outstanding and provided the team with great stability. Another key player was Joshua Borgnolo (9Mu), scoring two goals off the back of innovative buildup play in midfield. Following the result, the 9Bs finished the season as undefeated premiers, which is a testament to their efforts and application throughout the entire season. Zac Galluzzo 9Bs Coach 9Ds vs Cranbrook Won 5-0 The 9Ds finished the season strongly with a convincing 5-0 win against Cranbrook. Josh Chen (9Fo) scored the first two goals and was looking lethal on the left wing. The boys held the lead well till the end of the first half. Once the second half commenced, all the boys were hungry and determined for more goals. The third goal came when Vincent Buda (9Ho) had a strike from 30 yards out, scoring an absolute peach of a goal. Sam Mears (9Ar) put the game to bed with two great finishes on the right wing. The game ended 5-0 in favour of Trinity. Congratulations to the 9Ds! Peter Tsaridis 9Ds Coach 8Bs vs Cranbrook Won 8-1 With the final game in sight, the 8Bs were focused and ready to display a major performance, yet no one was expecting the kind of dominance they displayed. With the constant pressure from the beginning whistle, Trinity scored first within the first few minutes and this set the pace for the remainder of the match. The goals kept rolling from boys such as Daniel Skarzynski (8We), George Andary (8Du), Zac Zuccolotto (8Ar), Lewis Dobbin (8Du) and finally Zac Balzan (8Ta), who picked up an impressive 4 goals during the match. The final score being 8-1, with an unfortunate own goal from the home side. Nevertheless, all plays were built from the defensive thirds structure and their ability to hold the opposition; therefore these boys must be commended. This dominant effort from the 8Bs finished off a successful season, in fashion. James Biviano 8Bs Coach 8Cs vs Cranbrook Won 2-1 Congratulations to the 8C football team on finishing on top of the table with

eight wins and one loss for the season. Saturday's game against Cranbrook was not one of our finest performances, but goals from Adam Raiti (8Sc)-- his tenth for the season-- and Cameron Finn (8Ar) in the first half gave us the advantage needed for the 2-1 victory. As always, Nicholas Schutte (8WJ) had an outstanding game in defence, defusing many dangerous situations while Caleb Nazareth (8Sc) played a dominating role in the midfield both in attack and defence. Thank you to Amish Patel (8Hi), Daniel Mircevski (8St) and Jee Kim (8Ta) from the 8Ds,who travelled to Trinity and played for the 8Cs at the conclusion of their game at Flockhart. Steve Vazouras 8Cs Coach 8Ds vs Cranbrook Won 4-0 The 8Ds finished the season strongly with a convincing 4-0 win against Cranbrook. Special mention for Asher Wilson (8La) on his two goals and Alexander Shannon (8We) on his goal. The victory concluded the 8Ds triumphant season, as they successfully attained an undefeated premiership. Jonny Dimopoulos 8Ds Coach 7As vs Cranbrook Won 6-1 The Year 7A produced a goal blitz against Cranbrook during our final game of the season. The game commenced in a blaze with Trinity taking the lead in the second minute of play through great combination play down the right side. In the early stages of the first half, Trinity was in total control. However, Cranbrook managed to level the score midway through the first half and placed us under pressure for periods of time. The score-line went into the break at 1-1. In the second half Trinity responded with absolute focus and footballing discipline to completely dominate the game. We ensured that we played combination football and kept to the agreed style of play to effectively control the game for the entire second half. Trinity added five goals in the second half without reply from Cranbrook. The score-line was not truly reflective of our domination in the second half. The final result may have easily been higher had we had a little more fortune in terms of our final execution on goal. Both Lucas Pezzano (7Fo) and Thomas Seeto (7Ta) provided solid displays in the Trinity goal and ensured that we were able to launch quick effective coordinated forward movement forays towards the Cranbrook goal. Final score was 6-1, with goals from Rory Scott (7We) and Jordan Mikhael (7Ke), both scoring

braces, Sebastian Boffa (7Yo) and Arion Valiotis (7Hi). The entire squad needs to be congratulated on a great emphatic victory, to finish the season of in style. Petar Peric 7As Coach 7Cs vs Cranbrook Won 4-3 The 7Cs ended the season on a high note with a thrilling victory against Cranbrook. The boys came out firing, taking a 3-1 lead into half time thanks to some terrific build-up play by Zachariah Gindy (7Ke) and Aaron Chung (7Hi) as well as the pin-point crossing from Elias Chahine (7Ke). The second half was a nervous affair as Cranbrook managed to fight back to 3-3, but through the leadership of Christopher Kapaniris (7WH) our team stayed composed to eventually earn the three points in a 4-3 victory Chris Hart 7Cs Coach 7Ds vs Cranbrook Won 1-0 The 7Ds showed a lot of ability in their 1-0 victory against Cranbrook. The boys controlled possession throughout the entire game, patiently looking for chances to create. The tenacity of Luka Saxena (7He) at the back and Richard Collins (7Mu) in the midfield ensured that Trinity won the majority of the fifty/fifty challenges. Midway through the second half, striker Matthew Chen (7He) made a smart run off the shoulder of the centre back and was able to finish his one-on-one chance to ensure a well-deserved victory. Chris Hart 7Ds Coach Year 12 vs Ashfield Police Wednesday saw the third instalment of the annual Trinity vs Ashfield Police fixture. The Trinity team, composed of Year 12 footballers as well as three Year 11s, were out to defend the title for the third year in a row. The match kicked off at 1:15 with early displays of excellence on the ball from Dimitri Valiotis (12Hi). However, 15 minutes into the match, Ashfield Police bought the score 1-0 in their favour due to a volley from their striker. With no loss of hope Trinity pushed on in the heat to score an equalizer. Special mention to Travis Fleming (12WJ) for his excellent work in goals as well as Lachlan

Gregory (12Ke) and Patrick Barlow (12Ar) for their great work throughout the match. The game pressed on with an excellent turnout of Trinity boys watching. With five minutes to go, Soroush Zand (12Ar) fired a Long Range effort from outside the box, beating the Goal Keeper and curling into the bottom left hand side of the net to make the score 1-1. Not long after and just before the fulltime whistle, Nick Chan (12Mu) took an excellent shot, curling it sweetly into the top right hand corner to take the score to 2-1 to Trinity. Both teams should be congratulated on putting on an excellent display of Football and keeping the great relations between the School and the Ashfield Police alive. As well as this, the Year 12s should be thanked for their dedication to Trinity Football over the past years as today was their final game on Trinity turf. 13 above: Old Boy Connor O'Toole has signed 1st Team Contract with Brisbane Roar Congratulations to Old Boy Connor O Toole who has signed a two year first team contract at Brisbane Roar. Connor played 1 st XI as a Year 10 student before leaving Trinity to move to the prestigious Seiritsu Football Academy in Tokyo. Upon his return to Australia, he had a short stint with the Adelaide United Youth team before moving to Brisbane to join their Youth team. It is terrific news to hear that Connor has signed a first team contract and we wish him well for the coming A-League Season. Friends of Football Dinner Thank you to all those who attended the 2016 Friends of Football Dinner at the Terrace Room in Canterbury Leagues Club. Parents, friends and Trinity staff enjoyed a three course meal and between courses two Q&A s were conducted.

The first was with Former 44 time Socceroo and Trinity Football Coach Mr Wally Savor. Of note was how he discussed with the audience that Football is a journey of valleys and hills, that there are more lows than highs (and that the highs cancelled out the lows), that as parents we need to let our children build their character by working their way out of the low points and that wrapping our children in cotton wool can be counterproductive to their development as Football players and as a person. The second Q&A was with the face of Football since 1977, Mr Les Murray. He shared his experiences of escaping Hungary and arriving as a refugee in Australia in 1957, the role of migrant parents in shaping the Golden Generation, the merits of the marquee player in the A-League and recalled his singing exploits at Trinity Grammar School. When the DJ played his last song, the dancing finished and the night came to an end. Thank you to Complete Sport Solutions for donating a signed Wayne Rooney Boot for silent auction and thank you to Clem Morfuni for organising Les Murray and for donating a signed Arsenal shirt. Thank You Thank you to all players, parents and coaches for their efforts in the 2016 Football Season. We hope you have enjoyed your season and we wish our departing Year 12s all the very best in their exams and trust they will continue post school to play the World Game.
