Many of our students have friends and family who play Football at all levels. According to the not for profit organisation Heartbeat of Football (HOF), there have been 10 cases of heart-related deaths related to amateur football in the past two years ( The HOF aims to promote healthy hearts in sport via player education, the minimisation of health risks and the installation of defibrillators on all sporting fields around the country. On Saturday night, the HOF held a World Cup 2018 Celebration fundraiser at the Canterbury Hurlstone RSL Club and included notable attendees such as Craig Johnston, Rale Rasic
and Brett Emerton. Steve Poulos (10Ta) was also in attendance, playing the Bouzouki on stage for attendees upon their arrival. Steve Poulos (10Ta) on stage at the Heartbeat of Football's World Cup Celebration event Representation Selection Congratulations to Goalkeeper Zac Kapetanellis (12Hi) who was selected on Tuesday for the Opens NSW CIS squad to play at the NSW All Schools Championships later this term. Zac was selected while playing for CAS at the CIS Championships, where the team finished 2nd. Also at these Championships was Goal Keeper Gregory Kostoglou (11Sc) who was called up to the squad from a shadow position last Sunday. Congratulations to both these boys who have dramatically improved their goalkeeping since last season, and well done also to Trinity Goalkeeper Coaches Mr Nicholas Carosi and Mr Chris Marques, who have aided in their development. The final congratulation goes to Yanni Plataniotis (10Sc) and Mohammed Khamis (10We) on their involvement at the U16 CIS Championships on Monday, where they competed for CAS. CAS Round 4 vs Cranbrook On Saturday the 26th of May, Trinity faced off against Cranbrook in Round 4 of CAS. Below are the reports from the 1st and 2nd XI. In addition to these two reports, this week s report focus is Year 7. 1st XI Saturday was a big day for Trinity football, as Trinity were looking for their first victory. Due to the extremely tight nature of this year s CAS competition, Trinity
had the opportunity where three points would put them right back in the mix. Two moments of brilliance from Evasio Macmillan (12Ho) and Sam York (11Hi) gave Trinity an early 2-0 lead. Cranbrook pressed Trinity relentlessly, and it was heart and spirit from every player that pulled Trinity through to grind out a crucial 2-1 win, withstanding non-stop pressure for the better part of 50 minutes. Special mention should be made to Zac Kapetanellis (12Hi), who was phenomenal in goals and saved a crucial penalty. Jeremy Adams (12Fo) 1st Half Time CAS Round 4 - Photo by Mal York 2nd XI This was always going to be a close encounter with both teams coming into this game in equal second place. In the first half Cranbrook used the home ground advantage to take a two-nil lead within the first fifteen minutes with two quick goals, including an own goal by Trinity. In the second half Trinity showed grit, courage and determination, levelling the scores with two goals by man-of-thematch Max McCluskey (12Ar). The impact players in the second half to assist with the draw were Steven Poulos (10Ta), Jayden Ayad (10He), Lucas Kapetanellis (10Ke) and Lewis Dobbin (10Du). Overall, an exciting game with both teams having opportunities to take home the win, but a draw keeps both teams in second place chasing down first place Barker College. Mark Mikulandra 2nd XI Assistant Coach 7A
Following a strong performance against Knox, the 7As were eager to snatch all three points against a tricky Cranbrook side. The opening moments demonstrated this enthusiasm as Trinity applied waves of pressure through persistent pressing and inspired combination play. Christian Falato (7Sc) opened the scoring with a well-taken penalty, while a smartly-taken finish by Oscar Fryer (7Ta) soon after gave Trinity a 2-0 lead. A lapse in our concentration then provided Cranbrook a chance to equalise, meaning the game was in the balance at 2-1 leading into half time. With the second half objectives planned out, Trinity resumed their dominance, led by Max Wende- Dunstan (7Du) and Chinmay Gaikaiwari (7Fo), who both contributed to build up play with some outstanding touches. Trinity eventually cracked a resilient Cranbrook defence as Ben Phelps (7La) buried his 3rd goal for the season. The game finished 3-1, and coming up against Waverley this week the 7As are improving as they continue in their pursuit for the CAS Premiership. Zac Galluzzo 7A Coach 7B On Saturday, Trinity faced Cranbrook in Round 4 of CAS. A determined performance was displayed in an effort to bounce back from a string of disappointing results in recent times. Impressive passing in the final third by Alessandro Delgado (7St) presented Isaac Wyatt (7WH) with the opening goal of the match. Delgado then earned a goal of his own shortly after with a ferocious left-footed strike from outside the area. Special mention to Kaden Ruff (7Ta), John Hrsto (7St) and Caleb Kwan (7Ta) for holding shape and anchoring the midfield for the entire duration of the Game. William Piras 7B Coach 7C The 7Cs continued their impressive start to their season with a commanding 4-0 victory over Cranbrook. Two quick-fire goals came from Marcus Lorenzato (7Fo) and stand-in player Jonathan Manikis (7La). This gave Trinity a healthy two-goal lead going into the break. This dominance continued into the second half with Marcus scoring his second goal, as well as Luca Ratnavadivel (7Du) finding the back of the net by pouncing on a loose ball to continue Trinity s undefeated streak. Michael Dutton 7C Acting Coach 7D The football season started exceptionally well for the 7D football team with victories against St Aloysius, Barker and Knox. Unfortunately, last Saturday we suffered our first defeat (2-0) to Reddam House at Centennial Park. To the boys credit, they never stopped competing and worked hard to gain the equalizer. However, in the dying stages of the match the second goal was conceded. Kian
Guildea (7Du), was superb on the day, continuously being called upon to extinguish the opposition s attempts at goal. Other players who deserve a mention due to fine performances so far this season are William Nice (7Ke) who as a midfielder seems to cover more space than any other player (defending one moment and then attacking the next), Marcus Jutrisa (7WJ) who scored a hat-trick against St Aloysius and Denis Petridis (7Yo), who as a centre back is often called upon in cover. Steve Vazouras 7D Coach 7E The 7Es were looking to bounce back from two tight encounters in which they only managed to pick up a possible 1 from 6 points with a victory against a strong Reddam House outfit. A swift counter attack finished by Mark Charas (7Ho) saw Trinity lead against the run of play until a soft penalty was conceded, allowing Reddam to equalise just before half-time. After the break, Lachlan Chung (7Ho) put in his strongest performance to date in central defence, as well as Oliver Stubbs (7Ho) controlling the midfield, causing the momentum to swing Trinity s way, proven by Ryan Geddes (7Mu) fantastic finish from outside the box to give the 7Es a 2-1 win. Michael Dutton 7E Coach 7F Trinity faced Newington College early on Saturday morning at Buchanan Oval. Trinity opened the game strongly, with some great passing sequences around the middle of the park. Xavier Hatcher (7Ke) and Louis McCrohan (7Ta) were a brick wall at the back, with great support in defence from Finley Ross (7WH). There were a number of promising plays created by Liam Cavanagh (7Ar), but we were unable to capitalise on them. Despite the scoreboard, this was by far the best performance from the team, showing signs of their potential when moving the ball around the park. Ryan Maranik 7F Coach 7G Trinity played against Cranbrook on Saturday afternoon and the team put in a strong effort. In the first half the back line and midfield held firm with Mike Lin (7Sc) and Ioannis Giannakopoulos (7Sc) stopping several attacks with some solid tackling. In the second half, attackers Sean Hanrahan (7Du) and Zane Nazha (7Mu) started to get more chances and were unlucky not to score a couple goals with the goalkeeper making some great saves. Overall, the boys worked hard and tried their best and deserved a little better than the score suggests. Carlo Ianni 7G Acting Coach
7H Trinity played against Cranbrook School. Trinity was strong in attack with Ethan Harricks (7We) scoring two goals and Lachlan Van (7Ho) scoring one. Despite an excellent defensive effort from Miles Angus (7WH) and Julian Chin (7He), and countless saves from Lucian Duggins (7La), the 7H team went down 3-4. Grace Watson-Carr 7H Coach Good luck to all teams this weekend against Waverley in Round 5 of CAS.
